ANOTHER Reason I Won't Be Voting Red This November, It Seems...
http://news.yahoo.com/anti-immigration-tone-alienating-hispanics-162054757.html
Not in love with Obama--he's not great, not horrible...good personality, but not a commanding one, sadly--but I'm sorry, the GOP's totally turned me off...and here's ANOTHER reason...after all, what better way to win an election than to alienate the fastest-growing population in America (one I really care for, too...)

So the last game turned into a clusterfuck, which sucks. This game isn't allowed to. Anyone who joins pledges to not pause, cancel, bitch or draw, no matter what, even if someone is banned. Going on vacation? Find a sitter.

a day of remembrance
I'd just like to take this moment to remind everyone that 200 years ago we had to beat the crap out of the meddling British once again. Fortunately they've since learned their lesson and we've dominated their culture ever since.

Now if we could only get them to stop saying "lorry."

a struggle to enjoy this site at times
how do I get some reliable play time, it seems that this place is rife with Multis... I love this game, played it since 1979, online just recently, is there a better way to go about playing this game? there seem to be so many cheaters on here, is that just something I have to put up with or is there a better way?
would love some feed back on options, changes to the dealings of cheaters, or just your opinion

Europe is in financial shambles
I posted on here about ten months ago that German bonds were a good investment because the disappearance of the Euro meant the reemergence of national currencies and the German Mark ( and German bonds denominated in Marks) would gain enormously. Europe isn't letting me down.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

A person with common sense can count on European governments and the people who elect them to ignore reality and jump right off the financial precipice like the blind, socialist lemmings that they are. Thank goodness for the Germans or there wouldn't be anywhere in the entire continent to invest.

Why would you expect the German government to honor those bonds after a collapse of the euro? We can't even imagine how horrible the consequences of something like that could be.
Geowiz (236 D)
17 Jan 12 UTC
Oh yes, the export heavy German economy is going to prosper remarkably with the collapse of a currency whose major feature is the binding together of the European Union and its free trade zone on which German exports depend.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Why do you expect anyone to pay back money they borrowed? They need to borrow more!
I can't imagine ignoring the consequences of Europe living beyond their collective means for so long. The United States is right behind on the road to fiscal ruin too. Hopefully the irresponsibility of Europe will scare us back on to the path of responsibility here in America.

It's been a while since I've been on, and I notice TC is still at it.
The austerity measures are working wonderfully. How dare the poor complain about lower pensions and unemployment while the rich are still getting tax breaks.
Invictus (240 D)

But what if Germany redeems euro denominated bonds into Neuen Deutschen Marke at a 1,000 to 1 ratio or something? It sounds ridiculous, but if the euro falls there's no telling how bad things could get. Like the best thing to own is a gun made out of gold bad.

Germany is still probably the best and most secure place to invest in the eurozone and these spendthrifts might luck out and only have to expel Greece from the common currency, but buying German bonds on the premise that you'll get a big return in the event of the euro's collapse strikes me as pretty silly.

Germany is destroying Europe, single handedly.

"Like the best thing to own is a gun made out of gold bad."

That would be a terrible thing to have, since the gun itself would explode if you tried to fire it. That leaves you with no gun and you have to fight the starving mobs to pick all the little gold shards out of the dirt. If a piece of gold-shrapnel doesn't kill you, that is.

Um, Tolstoy, I'm pretty sure golden guns are one shot kills.

Invictus, how could the Germans destroy the value of bonds that they themselves own? German Banks and the German people own the vast majority of Germany's sovereign debt. Also never invest what you can't afford to lose.
The future German Mark can't be worth less than the current Euro. The value of currencies floats and the Mark wouldn't have to deal with the horrendous fiscal mess in Greece, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Spain, France, and the other downgraded governments.

The value of German sovereign debt increases immediately relative to all but American bonds when the Euro collapses.

Where do you invest your money Invictus if German bonds is a "silly" investment? Do you invest them in stocks? The stock markets of Europe will drop much more in value with the collapse of the Euro than German bonds.

Of course this is assuming you have money to invest and you don't hide it in the mattress or bury it in the back yard.

It is tough as hell to find low risk investment vehicles that offer a rate of return that outpaces inflation.

Without a doubt German government bonds are one of my picks and I put my money where my mouth was almost a year ago.

I haven't lost a penny either during the current crisis. The price of German bonds when up since I purchased because other individuals and institutions see the relative value of relatively low risk German sovereign debt.
