As I understand it the country choosing algorithm looks to choose countries for you that you haven't played for some time, while still maintaining an element of randomness. So if this is a country you haven't played much until it came up several times for you recently, that's why.
Also be careful not to make the gambler's fallacy.
Just because you're Germany (for instance) in one game, that doesn't make Germany less likely in the next one. Your odds of being Germany in two consecutive games (assuming perfect randomness, which is not the case here, but for the sake of argument) are 1 in 49 (or 1 in 7 multiplied by 1 in 7). However if you're already playing Germany in one game, and you join another one, your odds of being Germany in that game are 1 in 7.

I do not believe that what Mafialligator says is true. It's a totally random selection process to my knowledge (which, in the long term, is just as good as any "weighted selection." Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

With that assumption in mind, the odds drawing the same 2 countries 1 time each consecutively in WD and classic are 1 in 119 (7*17) if you've only ever played 4 games.

The odds of drawing the same country consecutively in classic and neighbors or same in WD are only about 1 in 40 (assuming each country has 3 neighbors, 7*17/3) if you've only ever played 4 games.

The odds of this occurring increase as you continue to play... if you have played more than 20 of each game then it is more likely than not that this will have happened at least one time.

So its hardly an electronic conspiracy.

Consider yourself corrected, Yellow Jacket. It is a weighted random. But it is also affected by the weightings other in the game have for specific countries. The goal is to try and reduce the repeat or over assignment of one country to a player by makign tit less likely they will get a nation when they have had it recently or an excessive amoutn in their past, but if the other seven are even less likely in their weighting, it may still contribute to your receiving the nation.

It seems unnecessary to me, but it doesn't hurt anything either... just forces the stats into the expected distribution earlier than completely random would.

Still, I doubt that would make me off by more than a factor of 1.5 at the very most - still no conspiracy here :)

The change was made back in the day when the site was smaller and had no variants. There were a lot of complaints that the random factor was still resulting in the three, four, five... in a row and that they were getting the same country way to many times. So Kestas put in the adjustment to try and restore balance to the force ...er... game.

Yeah, you're not. In my total of five world games, the last four I've been African countries, including playing one country twice. Weird....
