I collect memorabilia from no longer existing sports franchises, and I always regretted not getting a Winnipeg Jets hat. Guess I need to go buy a Thrashers one, but seriously, that logo is awful.

I'm happy to see Winnipeg have a team again as a long term fan, but it's Detroit I'd like to see head East. They are, after all, further east than Atlanta was (yeah, yeah, Columbus is too).

Na. Keep Detroit in the west. We can handle it. Send the east Columbus because God knows that Columbus (or all of Ohio for that matter) needs something to be happy about.

What about the Preds? I guess they'd be the third East option.

I always thought having hockey teams in the southern part of the US was an oxymoron...lol. looks like some of them are finally realizing that they need to be farther north to have a good fan base so they can have a good team with more money. great to see this move happening.

I would be shocked if Detroit moved. I think its really likely that Columbus is the one to go. Possibly Nashville, but Columbus makes the most sense

Detroit can't be moved--it'd leave the Blackhawks all alone of the Original Six NHL teams, and the NHL will never allow that, and I agree. Besides, Detroit has good rivalries with Chicago, Colorado, my Ducks...let 'em stay in the West, the easier for me to hate them, by God! ;)

No, move Columbus or Nashville East.



On another note, since Phoenix has covered losses for one more year...should they fail THIS year...

Or maybe a DESERVING USA/CAN city? (I'd be in favor of a move to Milwaukee, natural rivalry with Detroit...Portland...Seattle...?)

Quebec City is trying really hard to get a team.

I don't think of the Ducks as a good rivalry with the Wings...it's been more Sharks, and oddly enough, Coyotes recently. But I do get strange almost murderous looks when I wear my Colorado Avalanche T-shirt around (it was donated to me by my father-in-law, and I use it exclusively for when I'm doing work around the house that might damage my shirt....but that generally involves going to buy things first).

Well, I'm referring to the Selanne/Kariya days (which the Red Wings always won, hearbreakingly) and the mid 2000s, including the 2003-04 run for the Ducks, the 06-07 run for the Ducks, and the last Red Wings' Cup.

Not Detroit/Chicago good, of course, but it's had moments...



That being said, the Sharks and Kings are the main rivals of the Ducks, the three have a really great 3-way rivalry going that's brought some respect for hockey in California finally...

On the subject of rivalries...

Who else is hoping for a VAN/CGY/WPG/EDM/MIN division?

Flyers/Penguins...
Penguins/Caps...
Caps/Lightning (Who I defend, they've been a good franchise, they deserve to stay)
Toronto and Ottawa have rivalries...

Poor Montreal seems so left out.

(And I'd have mentioned the Rangers/Islanders/Devils as a rivalry...

But after this season, it's really more like a Three Stooges fest to see who trips up and fails the most laughably...)

That might be the most intense scoreless battle I've ever seen, one to remember right alongside the Team USA/Canada clashes in the last Olympics and my Ducks' taking on the Sharks as the #8 seed and such underdogs a couple years back...

Montreal and Boston I'd say is a bit of a rivalry, at least on the montreal side.

Pretty much everyone who is not Montreal hates Montreal. The Sabres used to hate them when I was growing up in Buffalo.

I don't hate the Habs--the again, I so rarely see them...

For me, Detroit's always been the New York Yankees-like bastard team I want to pound into the ground (sorry, SD, damian.) :)

Montreal has more Cups, but in my lifetime, it's always been the Wings that have been King...and boy do I hate that!



Kings and Sharks chiefly earn my ire, then the Wings...I usually root against the Caps as well, as I just can't stand Alex Ovechkin, and it's always welcome to see "The Great 8" lose.

I hope Quebec gets a team, although Canada has better things to spend its money on than building new rinks. Nordique fans deserve one more than a number of existing NHL teams though. I'm looking at you, Florida.

I'd like to see the Wings in the East...20 years of mostly running deep into the playoffs and a west coast schedule is taking its toll. Plus getting to play the other original six teams more often would be great...but I understand the decision to keep them in the west. That alone proves how good they are.

Also, I've always thought that one of the best NHL rivalries ever was Detroit - Colorado in the late 90's. Good times!

lol, I actually don't blame you, mostly. It's easy to hate good, perennial teams. Except I'd say that the Wings are able to do what the Yankees do but within the salary cap...making them that much better of an organization.

Seriously, the Red Wings have to be top 3 best organization in all of sports.

I am thinking since Atlanta is leaving the SE division, unless they are going to totally redo all the divisions, it makes sense to move Nashville into the SE with Washington, TB, Carolina and Florida.

There is no way, no how they move Detroit to the East. So it stands to reason that Columbus would remain in the west too.

Of course this is just geographically speaking.

Montreal has a long standing rivalry with Boston AND Toronto. Bring back the Nordiques and Montreal's games will be the best to watch 2 times out of three!
Also, Québec needs a team. The players have already been polled and have said that they would prefer to play there before any other city in Canada. The political and corporate in that city are working really hard at making it happen soon.

Montreal and Ottawa also have a rivalry as there stadiums are only 2 hours apart. It is quite common for bus loads from one city to go to a game in the other.

Yeah: didn't put em up there because it's not as hardcore as the other ones. There is a real profound hate for Boston and Toronto in Montreal, whereas Ottawa is probably not felt as threatening enough or old enough of a team to provide for gritty rivalry. A good sign of that is how the whole Kovalev affair was dealt with by the fans.

Yeah, that the Wings dominated even in spite of a salary cap does make them impressive...

But knocking the Ducks out of the playoffs or out of playoff contention over and over as a kid...they hath mde me mad! ;)
