My love of BBC all involves SciFi and Graham Norton (that pillow-biter is a stich!)

It was interesting and the similarities are astounding, but I'm not surprised at all the outrage it caused.

I am currently working on my nuanced Northern accent by watching episodes of Doctor Who.

Is he the guy who did "Planet Earth?"

If so, I don't get down on him...but I do enjoy his work.

@Ava: which Doctor Who? Christopher Ecclestone is the only one with a Northern accent (from Salford, Lancashire), Matt Smith is from Northampton, which is in the Midlands.

And David Tennant is a Scot, right?

@Draugnar (cool, my iPhone predictive text guessed Draugnar after the n) yes, Tennant is Scottish but he did not use his natural accent for Dr Who. If you hear him speak normally his accent us quite strong but he played the part with a very standard, non-regional English accent. Smith's accent is also non-regional but I do not know if that is his normal voice or not. If you only saw them play the role you could not tell which area they are from. Ecclestone however does have a mild NW accent.

Yeah, I've seen Tennant interviewed on Graham Norton and he has a heavy Scottish accent, heavier than Connery's even.

Even Scotland has regional variations but Connery & Tennant are both from Edinburgh area, which is more intelligible than say a strong Glaswegian accent.

The one that suprises me most is Pierce Brosnan. He typically has the "British" accent in the roles he plays (unless he is doing an Irish character), but his natural accent is very Irish.

Oh, Nicole Kidman sounds so American in *all* her roles, yet her Aussie comes out loud and clear when she does interviews.

How about Dominic West of Idris Elba in The Wire, or Hugh Laurie in House. All Brits but you wouldn't know it.

Haven't seen The Wire, but you are so right about Hugh Laurie. His American is spot on.

I have often been accused of being Australian, j think because I have picked up some of there phrasing when working there.

Most young people toady that I've worked with have picked up pseudo Australian fro some unknown reason. "No worries" was all I used to hear any time someone fucked something up. It got real old.

You have to watch The Wire. I wasn't interested but during a recent illness I watched the first two series which my son had .... bought the last three on iTunes because I was hooked.

I forgot to mention my other love of BBC America is MI-5 and my wife likes the BBC productons of Kitchen Nightmares and The F Word. She wants to go back to LA sometime when they are filming the American production of Hell's Kitchen and see if we can get in to eat there one night. She has this thing for Gordon Ramsey...

I joined a new project in the midst of a minor crisis. The boss (female) came in, gave us our instructions and left. I was rather shocked when an Australian colleague who I had not met before said "Christ, that's a big arse". Sometime later I realised that hx had said "that's a big ASK" which is Strine for tough target.

Gordon Ramsey! Another Scot.

LOL! Funny how we hear what we want to hear...

One other shout out to things "British"... Ss much as I love Daniel Craig (an Englander from Chester, Ceshire, England) as 007, I'd have rather seen Adrian Paul (born in London) get the role.
