New Variant Question:
I just started a Ancient Med variant and we just finished our first year. But something seems odd about the map, it looks like it is giving people all of the territories that they occupied in Spring as well (not SC's but territories).

Speedy gunboat game, anyone?
Anybody interested in a five-minute-turn anonymous gunboat game? There was one that just flopped but I'd really like to give it a go.

New Order Request for the World Map
In addition to Draw, Pause, and Cancel, can we please have a little order button that says something like Finalize your Damn Moves, This is a Gunboat Game and You Have No Reason to Not Finalize! ? I think it'd really improve the game for everyone.

Should I be concerned?
I'm in a game that's in 1903 where neither England, France, or Germany have attacked each other. All three are also in another game together. Is this cause for suspicion for Meta-Gaming? Has anyone else seen this before? Here's the link:

Star Trek 2012- Four Old Captains Want In!
Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula ALL have said they'd like a role in Trek 12. Who would you like to see- Shatner Kirk come back, Stewart's Picard come back from Nero's time to save Data/Kirk, Mulgrew's Janeway... uh... or Bakula's Archer look confused some more? ;) ("I hate Trek 11!" comments NOT welcome... have fun, folks!)

Is this cheating?
If 2 or more people know each and join a non-anon game is it considered cheating for them to work together until all the other players are destroyed and then draw the game?
Is it just lame or cheating?

Improving the World-Map
I'd like to make a more balanced World-map, so I'm asking here what to change on the current map. I'll apply all the changes to the map and we can get some test-games on my server to improve the map even more.
So post your suggestions.

Are Romans Italian?
Because Thucydides would rather talk about Jersey Shore... I have moved the discussion here.

I personally think that Italians are the weak mutant offspring of Rome.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
So who is going to go through this thread and pull all the 'US has no chance' quotes?

"Ahh, (sigh) anyone who thinks that USA stands a chance against the Canadians isn't right up in the brain. The Canadian Line up is way to deep and against the USA goaltending it will be like a pack of wolves against a herd of dumb founded sheep."

'Pwned.

5-3 USA.
Canada take 45 Shots, USA Goalie makes 42 saves.
USA Takes 22 Shots, scores 5 times.

wow.

Martin Brodeur is one of the most overrated goalies in years, so much of his success is due to playing behind what has been consistently one of the best defenses in the NHL throughout his career. And that is affirmed with this game, giving up 4 goals on 22 shots (one goal was on an empty net) just isn't top-level goalie play.

Hells yeah! USA USA!!!
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
22 Feb 10 UTC
Brodeur's a good goalie, but yeah, he HAS played behind great defensive lines with the Devils...

1960 in Squaw Valley.
1980 in Lake Placid.
2010 in Vancouver.

Team USA works MIRACLES!

And if you're watching MSNBC... look at Robson Square in Vancouver, Canada... it's like Times Square or Bourbon Street in the USA... and they have a few happy Canadians, but they are BOOING the hilights on TV!

They're "still happy..." but they;re not partying in the streets like the police were worried they might...

Good business for pubs, probably, though... ;)

USA!

Okay so please tell me how Russia is weaker than Canada Canda barely handled switzerland and then lost to US, I'm disappointed in my favortie player Brouder for giving up those goals. Meanwhile Russia took down a consistently strong Czech team 4-2. Canada is obviously not finding chemistry. Put 20+ of the largest ego's in the NHL what do you expect?
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
22 Feb 10 UTC
Well, that was the case at Lake Placid too... the US team was scrappy and on paper maybe lesser, but they wree role players and a real team, chemistry and all...
wydend (0 DX)
22 Feb 10 UTC
@denis: Both Canada and Russia both have one loss. Canada lost to the US, and Russia lost to Slovakia. I think it is pretty fair to say that Canada looks stronger than Russia because US has a significantly better team than Slovakia, imo.

I would make fun of Miller before that game...
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
22 Feb 10 UTC
Canada and Russia are very likely going to have to play each other now to get to the quarterfinal/in the quarterfinal...

And Russia looks like a FAR more physical team... and I didn't see any speed or finesse from Canada against the USA so overpowering that the USA chekcers couldn't disrupt, and Russia has FAR stronger checkers (Ovechkin!) than the USA...

Canada just doesn't look like it's meshing...

*as a Canadian... I hang my head in shame...

(ARRRG BROOOODEEEUUUR!!!!!!!)
It was really interesting watching that game. It was just as physical as an NHL game, but AFTER the whistle, with a few exceptions, there were no scrums, no facewashing, no decking people in the crease. Fighting is barred from Olympic hockey, but it was really weird watching someone like Pronger (I'm a Flyers fan, so I see alot of him), he played the same between the whistles, but after the whistle blew, where he'd ordinarily crosscheck someone in the back in the crease, he just skated away.

kreilly89 (100 D)
22 Feb 10 UTC
There was some post-whistle stuff, but it was mostly posturing. But what interested me was how much of that went on in the game, way more than in Czech vs Russia.
KReilly,
That's not surprising. North Americans play a more physical game. Always have.

And its always posturing, so I'm not sure of your point.
kreilly89 (100 D)
22 Feb 10 UTC
Well, I'm just surprised about how restrained the players were considering this was a rivalry game that was a big upset on Canada's home ice. I thought their was going to be a fight regardless of the suspension penalty.

I have to bump this to point out the shellacking that Canada is currently giving Russia. Canada is looking incredible, and Russia looking stagnant. As Isoroku Yamamonto supposedly said, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." USA's victory over Canada may have just created a pissed off machine.

p.s. What was it someone said about the strength of the Russian goaltending...

Jersey Shore
So I just started watching this show and I am addicted.. it is probably the worst show on tv- an absolute carcrash...
However at the same time it is the funniest and greatest show on tv..
The Situation could not even be dreamed up as a character.
What are other people's thoughts- I assume only North Americans will know what I'm talking about- but aussies don't fret it is coming MTV Australia in April
