As well as the ancient med that's a nice map

airborne... i'd love to see Ancient Med which is available already... but from the thousands in the variant bank that are played in the PBEM communities already... there is a 60+ person world map... that would rock (the game used THREE GMs) ;) there is also a 30 person world map that would be cool.

also, the 34 person Chaos variant... that would be an awesome variant as it requires very little code changing i think (well, would need 27 new color schemes, hashes, etc) but uses the standard map.

Ill go with Babak on this one the 60+ world map looks great and the Chaos version would be great to play. As long as any variant used on this site looks as good as the standard we play now, then any variant added would be fooking awesome.

Ancient Med and South America with one of the huge maps above would proabaly excite me so much id have to eat lentils to contain myself.

Colonial would be great, Youngstown, Ancient Med, South America... and loads of others.

Even just the precedent of variant-support on webdiplomacy would be orgasmic (just to be inappropriate and all ;))

Youngstown adds India, China, and Japan to the classic map. It's just a way to allow 10 people to play.

I wouldn't mind variants as long as they are balanced and somewhat playtested. I don't want the quality of this site watered down through ill conceived designs just because it's "new and different".

My fault for not being clear. Youngstown is the regular map, with Asia added on to it. Three new countries are added on to the Asian section. I'd liken it to "Super Diplomacy". Theoretically Austria could get over to India, for instance.

Colonial has a different map with different countries (Germany, Austria, and Italy aren't playable, new countries are in their place). Colonial is still just seven players. It's got some special rules as well.

Machiavelli would be great. Have not played that for decades.

my favorite that i have played so far has been ancient med. i lvoe that map. some i'd like to see are North America, American Civil War (just two people playing a map that would be quite a duel), Oceania(i don;t think this has been made yet but it would be interesteing to see made), and The southeast asia map

Machiavelli is practically a different game (and was sold that way). Airborne whatever happened to you putting together a 1900 variant? (Wasn't that the one you picked months back?)

rome fleet is just not very exciting. whoopie a fleet is starting at rome? i mean its great for italy in its own right but still..

luckily the one game i played on rome fleet i was italy. sure helped

A Machiavelli game can have lot more back stabing than dip.

it has been said by kestas that he will try to get variants on here as soon as possibel. the variants would come from game.xbsd.kr. this includes 4 and 5 person south american , hundred years war, ancient med, milan, fleet rome

@ NinjaPirate I understand your point. To be fair though, any variant can be a "different game". Isn't Colonial Diplomacy a different game? It has the Trans-Siberian Railroad, amongst other things. Simply adding all of North Africa to the regular map would change everything.

This begs the question - would adding different maps alter the feel of the site? How would this affect the ratings system? Right now we all have the same limited number of game types to compare each other to. Would the ratings system mean less? Can you still get an accurate player comparison if you start adding in more variables?

I don't know the answers, it's just something to ponder.

hmm interesting. perhaps rating system could change to rating each persons skills on each variant?
