well, if you value points then you did the right thing. there are many of us who absolutely despise this way of thinking. it is like fingernails on a chalkboard a million times over.

Having said that, there is really nothing to say that an emphasis on points is inherently better or worse than an emphasis on winning (i can hardly believe i'm writing this since in my mind it seems crystal clear that wins > draws > survivals > eliminations). Diplomacy has a long history of the clash between different people's opinions on what constitutes success in the game.

If you know you cant Win .........Draw........If you know you wont Draw survive.........If you know you wont survive...........give whoever you want hell before they Win

I now play only wta to avoid this dilemna. What seems to happen if you are holding someone at 17 with a large number of players you can ask them to withdraw to a safe distance, and then quickly pick off the smaller powers.

I think this kind of thing was a bigger problem a while ago but as Ghost Rankings have become more known this problem has waned.

Easy to say points don't matter when you have a ton of points. For someone that had just over a hundred points, winning 200 puts him where he can play better games. A 5 way draw would have resulted in just 100 .

If the choice was between a 200 point survival and a 175 point 3 way draw, I'd take the 175 point draw. But the person sitting at 17 centers isn't likely to want to just sit there. So eliminating those two other countries could be difficult while also keeping the leader at bay.

Personally, I'm loving playing league and tourney games. Getting to play in some quality games without having to worry about the points.

This is a sole reason I play WTA only now. Been stuck with too many guys looking to get as many points before the big power wins the game.

Technically the ghost ratings take into account which game type you are playing, so you are rewarded for strong second places in that system if you are playing a PPSC.

I am playing just WTA now because of that king of thinking on PPSC games. Points are just a question of time until you get enough, if you are at least an average player. Your record and your self respect you will never get back again....

I think going for a survive is fine if you have to choose between being the next one to get defeated or to ally up with the leader. Or you might just mistrust the other small players on the board.

For Points and G-Rating, survives can be better than draws, because they both use PPSC scoring in PPSC games. It is a common misconception that G-Ratings do not. I don't personally like survivals and PPSC generally.

I personally think a survive = elimination... there is really no difference between surviving vs being eliminated... both of them are LOSING!

glad to see so many moving to the WTA-only camp and, I'm really thankful to kestas for changing the code for sub-100pt payers to start WTA games as well, that will be a big help in promoting the 'right' way to play the game (the right way, of course, is the way I like to play =P )

I did not realize this thing about the Grating... i presume that is why silverwolf is so high up then right? is there a way to do alternate G-ratings... for WTA only games or to reduce the values of PPSC wins etc as alternative measures?

and Ghost, I dont envy your task... with the new maps slated to be added on, I presume your job will be much harder as the players on here will no doubt want new rankings for map-spefic ghost-ratings etc... it'll be a hoot.
