Drawn vs Survived
If you are in a near second place in a points-per-supply-center game, it seems like it is better to lose instead of draw. I guess the only reason to change this, would be the record (draws look better than survived in your profile) and Ghost Ratings?

Have you tried asking your IT director? I had a very good relationship with mine and was usually able to get reasonable requests granted.

You should explain to them that Diplomacy is in fact a highly educational game. The first time I played diplomacy (At age 16) was not only at school, but during a Modern Studies class. There were 21 students in the class, and the teacher was therefore able to split us up (by random draw) so that there were 3 people to each country, representing that country's government.

One person was the President, and had final say over what orders were submitted in the dipolmacy phases.
One person was the foreign minister, and actually handled all the talks with the other powers (via their foreign minister).
One person was the defence minister, who had final say over retreats and builds.

The class was a 2-hour class, and it took 20 minutes to explain to everyone how the game worked, and then we had 20-minute phases. We got through 5 phases and then a couple of days later we had another two-hour lesson and finished the game. Well, we got it down to 4 powers left and declared a draw. I was hooked from that point on.

I'm guessing that your school uses a commercial proxy and it just classified webdiplomacy as a 'game' site, therefore the block.

Easiest option depends on your computer expertise. The best option is to setup your own site that has a proxy setup. If they are using a commercial site, there is no way it'll find a private proxy, but you need to have a system that can do it online that you can get to...
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))

Just a hint www.your-freedom.net. You have to create an account and dowload the software, but it work pretty well against normal comercial proxy/firewalls blocks. The free version have some limitations, but for use on school I think will do the job.
I'm lucky. I'm one of only two kids at my school who plays so I think I'm safe. Tough luck on your banning.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

If there are enough people at your school that play it, you should just play it in person.

Day long phases. You can negotiate at lunch and between classes and stuff and print out the maps from home. That's a lot of fun.

Otherwise I don't know what to tell you, just join games with 24/hr phases, and get on right after school, that's what I used to do.

and for a year, it was just me going on the site. then, i got into a class with 5 of my friends, we recruited another person to play, and we started playing live games in class xD. then it got banned.
Draugnar (0 DX)
27 Sep 09 UTC
Hmmm... Maybe that is why it got banned. So it's a boring class. Suffer through it. All that activity at the same time (live games) clearly brought it to the attention of the IT police.
denis (864 D)

Well buy the board game and play at lunch
Lol denis. I doubt that would work at my school. My classmates like Risk. They hardly understand it and make up rules as they go. I'm guessing the same would be for Diplomacy and would ruin the game for me. And yes, this site is blocked at my school as well because it is classified as a game.
denis (864 D)
27 Sep 09 UTC
Well get an iPhone or a blackberry that's what I do but it's probably not banned anyway considering I visited the computer graphics class and half the class was playing miniclip and addicting games
sadly for me I don't know anyone at my new school except my sister so can't play FtF
PS really big on board games but other peoples lack of will to play or even learn the game ruins it
Draugnar (0 DX)

@denis - Check out meetup.org and yahoo groups for your area. Many major metropoli (is that the plural?) have boardgaming groups that organize and plan events on one or both of those two sites. Are you old enough to drive? If so, you'll find most boardgame groups safe enough for a teen and, if your not old enough (or you don't feel safe), get mom or dad or an older sibling involved. Hell, get the whole family involved. Boardgaming with eurogames (as opposed to the typical dice throwing games out of Parker Bros., Milton-Bradley, and Hasbro) is very enjoyable and they might discover a new family "fun"ction.

I've always had it blocked at school, but by checking at 10:30 pm, 4:30pm and 7:30 am I can still play 25 hrs phase games well.

You need to learn to talk ahead further, but that's a good thing to do anyway.

well ive thought about bringing in maps before, but do you write on the maps for units? if so, how do you fit that in in some of the smaller provinces? like 'army of austria hungary' in bohemia?

we have so many people who play games at school that you cant even search for proxies anymore.........they block anything with the word proxies......also you cant even download anything on the computers because so many people downloaded the Halo 1 Trial and were playing it in class

well ive thought about bringing in maps before,
but do you write on the maps for units? Nah just cut out some squares (Armies) and rectangles (Fleets)
if so, how do you fit that in in some of the smaller provinces? like 'army of austria hungary' in bohemia?
Just write one letter on each piece, the first letter of the nation
PS really big on board games but other peoples lack of will to play or even learn the game ruins it

That's my school in a nutshell. No. More like a pumpkin seed. Either way, no one likes using brain work at my school.

Breaking Support
Now I want to make sure I have this right, if there are units in Kei, Ruh, and Bur and there are three opposing units in Ber, Mun, and Tyr; If Ber attacks Kei and Mun attacks Bur and Tyr move to Mun regardless of what "support moves" are ordered for Kei, Ruh, and Bur ALL units will remain in their original position, correct?
