My gess is it will start n a second since no one can actually join it anymore. What happened was 2 people probably joined at exactly the same time near the end and both got in?

This is a known bug. Not sure what happens next.

It might not start, if the starting condition is set as "player count=7"...

The game hasn't started due to there being 7 players, because there aren't. However, the game is likely to try and start when it reaches 0 on the timer. I would forcibly pause it, as this should return everyone's points, but I'm not sure how it functions in pregame

Somehow or another the game has started with just seven of us (obviously) thanks figles if you sorted this for us.

Thanks for letting me know about this, this is one of those bugs which has cropped up once every few months for years, and despite going over the code and rechecking the database locking many times I can't see how it could possibly happen

When you are about to join a game the game record is locked "for update", which means if someone else tries to join they have to wait for the first person to finish before they can get the lock. But for some reason, very rarely, this seems to fail :-(

I didn't take action although I was watching it.
The 8th player might be rather annoyed though - I have a feeling they didn't get their points back
