Supporting Convoy moves
Does this game allow you to do that ? For example an army in Kiel supporting a Convoy into Denmark from Yorkshire. If this is not possible under the current set of moves available it cuts out an awful lot of tactical possibilities imo.

No scroll bar on messages
New user so excuse if this is a common knowledge thing but once there are a couple of messages from the same sender/country, they disappear under the map and there is no scroll bar to access them. Can I open messages in a new window any way? Is it a browser specific problem?

NEVER ENTER A GAME WITH MANDILA
it is mandila who spoils every single game he is in ...it s not only peris-TERONA he is controlling he has many other accounts e.g. he was controlling an account caled ' lords ' previously -- he is nothing more than a coward and does every single unfair thing to win games --

Seriously, can we stop these names and shames. If you have an accusation of cheating, please present it with evidence, in an articulate manner, so that the other players may judge the validity and truth of the claims. From what you have posted, I simply think the individual in question has pulled off what sounds like a remarkably devastating stab. What is your evidence?
berencamlost7 (100 D)

TOgilvie, what you say has some sense. But before you round off pn the king take a look at malinga's games. You will find that in a lot this "other" player peris-TERONA takes part. And they always get on like a house of fire. There's two ways of looking at that imo.

They could be 2 different people who just happen to be the best buddies of all time. I for one would NEVER play in game of Dip where I knew an unbreakable alliance was in place. It cuts across the whole ethos of Diplomacy. It's rank cowardice in fact, as it shows you haven't got the guts to actually try and win a game on your own.

On the other hand mandila and peris-TERONA could be one and the same player. In which case he's nothing more or less than a cheat.

There's an easy way to sort this type out, whether its best friend or cheat. Any game malinga starts in everyone else should immediately attack him from all sides. Anyone who doesn't join in would probably be his best buddy or himself under another alias and are qucikly dealt with as well.

A few games of this medicine would soon cool malinga's heel's somewhat

Oh I did look at his games record. I was even in a game with peris-TERONA and lords, in which both were uncommunicative, and which peris_TERONA won. Suspicious, but not enough to judge. I worry that the king is basing his opinion on too few games to know for sure.

I would also like to see mandila / peris-TERONA / lords, whether they be one or two or three, defend themselves in the forums, unless they know Justice has caught up with them.

My other worry is that by exposing them, we drive them underground to new accounts. Better to keep the knowledge to yourself, avoid games they're in, and if you do find yourself involved with them then voice your suspicions to the other players, presenting your evidence.

Togilvie - I think it's quite obvious they are one and the same person (as they have also been mentioned in their own thread in the past). They also always log in within a minute or two of each other.

I'm usually against public naming and shaming - but for multi accounting I think it's valid (as long as it's pretty certain). I know I have emailed Kestas in the past to check before naming and shaming publicly.

The list of multi accounts is growing it seems, with Mandila, Peris-Terona, Lords, Gisset75, Bradler, Baradler, Braddles31, Noonan all looking like good candidates.

I will be avoiding games with any of these involved I'm afraid :(

Fair enough, I didn't look that in depth. I guess I always look for the good in people; I'm always willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Must be why I get stabbed so much! (Or am I bluffing....)

Naming cheaters is OK, but why do people get so worked up? Just get yourself in another game and forget about it. One ruined game doesn't matter much.

It's only a game. And its on the net, you are always gonna get multi accounters and all this other stuff and there isnt really a full proof way of getting rid of them.

it is not onlly a game I have been in many games with mandila and in every single game it was obvious that he was cheating

Indeed, his accounts should be frozen, but for the meantime, just try not to play games with them.

I think we should follow berencamlost7's idea. If there is an obvious multi-accounter in any game, arrange for all the countries bordering them to attack immediately and force them out of the game.
JasonN (179 D)

Lightguy, that plan works until he gets 7 accounts.

> Has anyone seen kestas around at all...?
I'm still around, just busy with uni.

The problem with banning multi account guys is that it's so easy to create another account, it's difficult to be sure that they really are multi accounts, and removing a user like that creates a vacuum of power in a game that gives someone else an unfair advantage. Banning multiple user accounts as they are found out isn't really any way of preventing it.
Until a more permanent solution is coded I think you'll just have to live with these sad people.

Also name&shame threads probably aren't very helpful. It would be best if people post them all to a single thread like this to keep the forum clean, if you think posting them will help.
isbian (106 D)

Don't know why people want to cheat. As long as we stay with this rating system, ranking and games won don't really matter. It's mostly reputation. I mean, at most you'll get maybe 2 extra games won before someone exposes that you're a cheater, and then you're screwed, and nobody want to be in a game with you anymore.

We are finally almost finished the game "Freedom?", in which there was an issue with Gissett and noonan. I'm inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt, too, and I still wonder if they were "mates" playing in an unfair manner or the same person. My inclination when it was determined that they were cheating was to kill the game. But we played on anyway and it has taken up a lot of my time unnecessarily. In hindsight, I would have rather just killed the game than gang up with the others to punish them, which is what we did. To his credit, Gissett played very well after losing his proxy and did not abandon or otherwise hold the game up.

Unfortunately this is becoming a problem that makes me wonder if I'll carry on playing for much longer.

I want to join more games, but am being forced to wait around until only 1 or 2 free spaces are available in open games to ensure the known multi-accounts don't join and ruin it.

For example - one game currently in pre-game (Slow game) has braddles31 listed as the second entry. So already, there's one game I won't be joining for fear of him coming in with one of his many known (and probably unknown) proxies - just like he's done in "WAR!!!" (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1480) and "Fighting and that" (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1511).

I think the only solution would be to limit one account per IP. Yes this would make it unable for genuine multiple people to use the same computer or location (ie. family computers, etc), but at the same time would return some form of legitimacy back into this game.

I really wonder what people like Gissett75 gets out of this by winning 5 games and being classed as "MasterMind" when everyone will always know it's all just a fraud and will never be respected here?
The Mahatma (1195 D)
14 Aug 07 UTC
Willigogs, I think your best bet is to start a passworded game and invite players you know are not cheating. The players who played "Freedom?" after Gissett/noonan were exposed were solid: mate and robinhood. You could invite them.

Ryoshi - Top backstabber
If you enter into an alliance with Ryoshi, be careful: you are the first one he is going to attack! In my opinion, he backstabs even when there is no strategic reason to do so. It seems he gets into alliance with you just to attack you.

Said this, Ryoshi is fully a legitimate player. So, no complains about his honesty and his respect of the game rules. Just be careful if you enter into a coalition with him, he will attack you first thing :-)

Masterminds V
Alright folks, I'm thinking of starting up the next in the "Masterminds" series, although I'm not as big on the ranking system.

Anyone who is interested in joining the game, just email me at [email protected]

You can join this game even if you do not have the Mastermind status yet, as long as you have a respectable record, and feel you can hold your own with what is loosely considered the best players on this site.

Selection will be based on rank, skill, reliability, reputation, and obviously those with past experience in this series.

So I won't be starting this game right away, but I would like to generate some interest, and bring some new talent in. If you are not selected for this game, have no fear, I will keep your request on hand, for future games. If there are a LOT of viable candidates, I may ask someone to start a second game to run parallel to the first, but that is only if there is honestly enough skilled interest.

So send me your request, I'll need nothing more than your profile link. Don't be shy, there are no obligations tied to the request, and none until the game starts, where I just ask that you do not fall into civil disorder.

gopackers legitimate?
I just noticed that there are many, many accounts named "gopackers" playing in one game, and all but one of them have since gone in to civil unrest. This strikes me as a telltale sign of multi-accounting. Does anyone know if gopackers is legitimate?

Maybe a gamemaster display bug?
Kestas, can you please check the logs for HTTP Wars (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1357).

For the Autumn 1914 turn, I believe I gave my army in Finland a support order, but it doesn't display in the Gamemaster. Not that it shows a different order, it just doesn't show ANY order. I suppose I may have accidentally left them holding, but I thought even that would prompt an output. Is it possible that there were too many orders and the maximum size of the Gamemaster box is too small?

fr1988 - new top backstabber
I formed an alliance with fr1988 at the start of a game, agreeing to keep the Black Sea demilitarized. He immediately (as Turkey) attempted to move into the Black Sea *and* moved an army into Armenia. This is completely unconscionable. I just wish I had Ryoshi as a neighbor!

If you find yourself in a game with fr1988, never agree to ally with him; you'll be the first person he stabs!!!111!!!one!

Definition of Metagaming
Much of the debate seems to centre around metagaming, particularly what it constitutes, and what is acceptable. aoe3rules brought this: "http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/resources/ftf/meta.htm" to our attention in a previous thread, which offers one definition. For my part, I think that metagaming is not 'using knowledge gained about a player (such as whether they are a stooge or a stabber) in a previous game to your advantage'. This is unavoidable with total anonymity. The permanent alliance, especially over many games, is metagaming; as is scratching a player's back in game X in return for support in game Y. What other definitions of metagaming and what constitutes fair play can users offer?

Game Statistics/History
I'm new here, but I think this is a feature request that would be useful to everyone. In the "completed games" section, would it be possible to track the games by result? I'm thinking something showing the # of completed games won by each power.

Since these games are all viewable as well, it would be neat to have a way to quickly view all of the wins by a certain power and follow how they reached their victory.

My army at Spain didn't move to Gasgony
Look at this game:

When I tried to move from Spain to Glasgony with my army the system said that there was a stalemate. But, nobody else tried to move there. So, was it an error? Or, Why there was a stalemate?
