A "Unified" Palestinian Government? I Think Not...
http://news.yahoo.com/hamas-trying-destroy-palestinian-unity-says-abbas-112457367.html I'd say having to scrap ceremonies for (however one might feel about him) a huge leader in Palestinian history due to concerns one faction might attack the other is a sign you DON'T have a unified government. Much as I dislike Abbas and Fatah, they're the better of the two factions fighting for power there...again--Hamas Hamas HAMAS destroys peace, even for fellow Palestinians.

TV Rots the Brain
Anyone want to post the tote board for TV's five-game series? Three games are finished, ending in solos by three different players. A fourth should end this weekend. And the fifth saw it's first elimination in 1915. Good stuff.

High School Drama
Why does this still exist after high school?

It doesn't. It's generally your own doing if you're to embedded in it. Just walk away.

You're in undergrad right? Undergrad especially for the first three years is just an extended high school period with less supervision until you can start actually pretending to be an adult.

I agree with SN. Normal/Average people never stop being filled with drama, the trick is to have good friends.

As has been said, high school never ends. As has also been said, it's best to walk away. By now you should know that if your friends give you more aggravation than they're worth it's fine to drop them. You'll make others. Same with more romantic relationships. Cut and run. Life's too short.

Of course, sometimes this sort of thing can happen at work. In which case, silence is golden.

Surround yourself with people who aren't like that.

I've been almost entirely drama-free for about 10 years now, and it's been wonderful. People who bring shit to my table get cut out ruthlessly, and I don't ever look back. And I manage to do the cutting with nary a nasty post on facebook.

I found out I actually enjoy the drama. It's quite refreshing, but I suppose that's because I've been actively ignoring it, even when it involved me, before.
I'd say it makes days more amusing and less repetitive.
I used to ignore it because I was preoccupied with developing myself through various ways including learning as well as helping others, but I've found that getting a little bit more emerged in the drama helps me with social skills useful for convincing others to let me help them. On top of that it"s skills too, so it's developing myself too.

That said, I really don't care about the drama :-)

"High school drama" exists in college? Then you need to drop the clowns you are hanging with and start over. I experienced none of the nonsense of high school in college...in fact, I remember freshman year running into a few "popular" people from high school walking across campus that never would have deemed me worthy of a glance in high school that had basically reset the relationship, and now spoke to me, like the past never happened - which is how it should be.

So I'm curious Bo - what is this "high school drama" you are experiencing in college? Are you still living at home and commuting, and hanging with the same friends?

@steephie ... fix yourself.

@krellin ... I left Indy and came out here because I fucking hated just about everyone there except for a select few. I tend to like people out here. There are still the uber-rich preppy white kids that no one likes who think their dad will bail them out of jail if they get in trouble, but they all hang out together and no one gives a fuck about them. Ironically enough, it's parents that cause the drama, because parents in Lake Forest are also uber-rich white people who are more than used to having it their way and have no idea what actual life is like. So, long story short, parents won't get the fuck out of our faces.

Yes, the high school drama is caused by 55 year-olds.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You're the one with the problem with a part of your life.
I've come to love every part of mine.

If you hate something in your life, you pretty much have two options to solve the problem. You either make it go away or you stop hating it. I'm in high school, can't really make it go away, can I? So my natural reaction was to ignore it, now I'm taking it a step further and I start liking it.

I'm starting to think that we're not talking about the same high school drama though.

And whenever something sucks in my life, I attempt to enjoy the irony. Sometimes it seems best to take a step back and live life from a 3rd person perspective.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

The biggest difference between high school and "real life" is you get to more or less choose who you associate with. You'll always meet people who fit the typical "Breakfast Club" stereotypes, but you aren't forced into a fishbowl with them the same way as when you are actually in school.

Eh drama doesn't really exist. Drama is just people who don't understand each other being around each other. 99% of the time a little effort to understand where someone else is coming from can remove any problems that exist. If someone doesn't want to make that effort then they probably aren't worth being around.
LogicCure (494 D)

That "high school" drama of people being petty and generally shifty never ends. The good news is that as you get older you find it easier to step away from unhealthy relationships as you actually learn what is and isn't healthy.

Some people never grow up and can be that way until they die especially if they stay with the same group of people.

Look at Bill Clinton and the Arkansas Mafia when they went to Washington. The Bush clan against everyone that doesn't support them especially the ex-wives of the Bush men.

It's not, Invictus, but some students do. Lake Forest people tend not to leave Lake Forest. Pass down the wealth, ya know?
Invictus (240 D)
10 Nov 14 UTC
It's certainly a good school, but I don't know how closely living in Lake Forest and going to Lake Forest are tied together. Since it's a liberal arts school, I have to think that the alumni are less successful on average than, say, Notre Dame's or U of C's. But then, my direct knowledge of the area and people centers more on Bannockburn, Lincolnshire, Buffalo Grove, etc. rather than the real "coastal" areas of the North Shore.

Apart from a high school teacher I had, I don't know anyone who went to Lake Forest for college. Maybe it is New Trier redux for all I know.

bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

I know. The liberal arts aspect hardly affects us though and the way AP credit translates, anyone who did their homework in high school and knows what they want to do can easily plan a way to avoid classes that aren't relevant.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
11 Nov 14 UTC
As others have said, drama is a product of your surroundings. Surround yourself with real people and you will avoid drama.

If Lake Forest has Greek life (I'm too lazy to check), I would recommend avoiding it. Greek life is always a drama magnet
Invictus (240 D)

No more than any other area of collegiate life. Maybe even less than some. Nothing gave me more headaches in undergrad than the mock trial team, and my friends on student government had Gallipoli-like war stories.

Hi guys,
In the game http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=147999 I am trying to move a fleet from EC to Brest but there is no Brest in the drop down menu for the move. There is every other option but Brest.

Studying abroad (English-speaking country, maybe French)
Since I'm not particularly attached to my country (the Netherlands) or anything and since my English is pretty good by most standards, I can pretty much choose between most Dutch or English-speaking universities.. Which is a daunting task, if taken seriously as I plan to.
Advice? Suggestions? Where do I start?
I can hardly cross the North Sea or Atlantic Ocean on a regular basis while trying to orientate, see what I like and don't like..

NFL Pick 'em Week 10: A Week of Joy, or Sadness?
We missed Week 9, and the sadness of my 49ers (why don't we run Gore at the goal line anymore?!) and the joy of the Browns as they beat up Andy Dalton and the Bengals (remember them? And I'm calling the Browns as a Wild Card playoff team, I BELIEVE) so, Week 10. 49ers/Saints in a survival game, Chiefs/Bills in a potential playoff elimination game, them Cowboys and Jags in London AGAIN, and the Lombardi/Halas Bowl in Packers/Bears on SNF. Week 10, Pick 'em!

So I've always liked the dynamics of Public Press, and was wondering if it was possible to hold a mini-invitational with some number of games and a scoring system. Would we be able to get the mods to shuffle? Would there be any interest for this sort of thing? Has it happened before?
