Why I don't use the forums...
I've pretty much just given up on reading or posting anything slightly political or religious on this forum because from what I've seen, most of the political/religious forum posts are 80% stupid liberal word games, 15% slightly less stupid conservative arguments, (thank you krellin) and maybe 5% are posts that I look at and think wow that's a really good point... I don't mind having my views argued against, but most of the time, the posts aren't even worth the time...

The Forum is on Break or Something
Is it just me, or has there been a high lack of posts going on lately? It seems like since summer started, there's been a lot less crazy shit thrown around on the forums, which bothers me, because that's the whole reason why people ever physically use the internet. Would you all mind stepping it up? I feel like I've been getting a lot of attention too, which is also unusual...

Optional Auto Reminder System?
"The end of the next phase is coming up soon!"

Wouldn't that be a useful email to receive (by optionally consenting somewhere) for the minimization of frustration of those who have things slip their minds plus all of those other players in games with those who have things slip their minds? I am sure this topic must have come up somewhere sometime before. But, whatevers, let's bring it up again! Thoughts?

GITMO
Just to give krellin something else to chew on...

Why isn't this place closed? Nothing good is coming out of it. Whether or not the prisoners are given due process, they are making a national mockery out of a prison. There's too many black marks to keep it open. I just don't get it.

Making up names for a book
Any advice on this? Suggestions? I suppose it should be very easy but I can't decide which name to choose every time...

If someone is willing to just list some good names (note the book is Dutch so some might not be appropriate but I don't mind if you don't speak Dutch and give it a shot anyway. In fact I appreciate it.) I can probably just use those. I need surnames as well.

The Difference(s) Between the English and Americans--According to Stephen Fry
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRzU8q4M8sQ I personally thinks he hits the nail on the head to a large extent (though there is certainly some irony in the nation with an intentionally-secular Constitution being more religious and faith-based while the on with a State Church has a greater tradition of skepticism and empiricism) and it's true...the 50 ARE so different I'd argue your average Los Angelino and Londoner have more in common ideologically than a California and Alabamian--thoughts?

Big Brother 15
Does anybody on these forums watch the reality TV show "Big Brother"? I am looking for people to share in my obsession with my show, seeing as I have very few people that I actually know that like to watch this show.
I also am keeping up with American Ninja Warrior, so if anybody watches that I am cool with discussing that as well :)
Maybe any other TV shows people watch as well? I am interested, but mostly focused on finding people who watch Big Brother.

I'm Leaving, LOOK AT ME!!
Why is it that when some people decide to leave the site, they feel they must put up some public pronouncement, "Look at me! I'm leaving...beg me to stay....play with me...make me feel good about myself!!" post. If you are leaving...leave. We either will or will not notice. You are like self-absorbed politicians making loud public pronouncement that you are not running in the next elections. WHO CARES?!

@jmo - I have a few on here that I am in regular communication with -- and to those, I would probably send a PM, perhaps even offering my real contact info.

But in a world of YouTube and instagram and twitter, I should not be surprised at self-centered "Look at me, I'm leaving" posts.

If you have a real relationship with this older member, I'm certain it will continue without his public proclamation. On the other hand, life in general consists mostly of relationships that come and go, as opposed to the childish ideal of static friends that last forever, which are truly rare, and few and fare between.

I don't think I even made an announcement when I stopped playing. There are people making announcements I've never heard of, so they haven't been playing that long... if you are someone who's been big in the community 3+ years, it's a big deal. Otherwise it isn't.

Draugnar (0 DX)

krellin (80 DX)
10 Jul 13 UTC
Oh hell yes, I won't dispute that. Which isn't to say that 0% of my posts have no meaning or value. Many do...you can pose, mentaly masturbate, etc and still have meaning....but the bottom line nobody is hear to LISTEN or LEARN....everyone is here to prove a point, put others down, put themselves on an intellectual pedestal, etc.

I just have the balls to be brash and honest enough about what goes on here.

Say Krellin...
I beg to differ (let's be clear, I ain't really beggin'... ): some people are actually really interested in learning from the others. I would consider myself one of those. Not always: sometimes I have an opinion on something, and I have the arrogance to think I'm right. But I like that this community is made of a number of intelligent and educated people who can cast a better light on stuff than I can. I also like to hear 'voices from the other side', especially when they present reasonable and well crafted arguments. I've been made to change my mind on a few things here, and I've certainly learned from many, especially where the social and economic history of the States is concerned.

That said... the forum clearly does not harbor a vast number of people with that mind set. Nor do I think it ought to be restricted to those people only.

Perception is projection, is this how you think people see you?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

Perception is Projection

Have there ever been times in your life when you met someone and thought:”God, he/she is really arrogant?” Or maybe, after you talked to someone, you thought: “Damn, he/she is opinionated. I’m glad that I’m not like that!”. I know that I myself have had a couple of situations like that, and only once I started studying Neuro Linguistic Programming did I realize the mistake I had made, the injustice I had inflicted upon all those people. Why? Because perception is projection.

While this sounds a touch cryptic, it actually means that we are fully in charge of what we perceive from other people. Simply put, what when we recognize others as being arrogant or opinionated or any other charming description, we actually recognize a part of ourselves, otherwise how would we be able to know what it was? So, basically, what we see in others is really ourselves!

What others do or how they act is their choice, it is our choice though how we perceive their actions. So, to a certain extent, people in our lives will act the way we unconsciously want them to (akin to a self fulfilling prophecy). That means that we get what we focus on! Hence, we project onto others how we want them to act, and once this projection or judgment comes to our conscious attention, it is our projection.

At the end, this means that you will see in people whatever you want to see, and you will only perceive things that you have in you. So, instead of jumping to judgments, make sure you are giving the person a fair chance. Of course you will still come across certain people you might not like and at least you gave them a fair chance. Furthermore, focus on what you want, and feel free to project on to others the way you want to be yourself!

Sucks that one can't make a simple reply to such a witty question...

I'm totally one of those who thinks of the proper rebuttal hours after having had the lamest retort. After seeing what you can do in game and on the threads, I don't think you suffer from the same predicament.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
10 Jul 13 UTC
(previous was a cross-post)

I like that you give credence to the comment I made earlier, about people actually offering interesting views on these forums and it therefore being a place where we can learn something if we feel like it. Cheers for that.

As for my "two-liners" above....

Truth is: I first meant the first line as a description of how you grew on me. But given that this thread was really more about poking fun at me and that I didn't want to come out as aggressive towards anyone, I turned it on me. Maybe I'm a bit dumb for saying it now, but given your second comment, I thought it was interesting to note.

That said, it does not invalidate that longer comment. I'd probably want to nuance it a little, but I think it still touches on something very true.
