Players needed
We need players for an anonymous players, pw-protected game. It's a sequel of sorts to a game that had good players but a couple of missed moves and a civil disorder that threw the balance off.

Respond here or, for extra anonymity, message me for info.

Diplomacy Simulators?
Does anyone know if there is a program that allows you to mess around with a Diplomacy board; trying out different openings, studying possible strategies, allowing for analysis of previous games, and so on? Regrettably, I don't own the board game to do this the old-fashioned way.

Rehabbing a Terrorist in a Cage
http://edition.cnn.com/2012/07/20/world/europe/uk-caging-terror-main/index.html?hpt=hp_c3

Muslim man and former MMA fighter uses cage fighting to rehabilitate convicted and released terrorists in order to help them integrate to society. They say it works, and I can believe it. Get punched and kicked in the head enough times and your perspective will change too.

Rape jokes:
There is a line between freedom of speech and damaging other humans - if your jobs depends on people paying to hear you talk you need to care at least a little bit about their opinion of your speech. http://jezebel.com/5925186/how-to-make-a-rape-joke

It would be a relatively simple issue if someone falsely accused of rape suffered a brief inconvenience before given an apology, hand shake and a few shopping vouchers in compensation. Sadly that is not the case, and the accused suffer immensely from not only the stress of the trial itself but also the suspicion of friends and family and work colleagues which often never goes away. The fact that so few rapists are convicted means that many found innocent are likely guilty, and many innocent found innocent are treated as guilty. Justice may be blind, but people can be cruel bastards. I'd rather be mugged than falsely accused of rape.

I am willing to concede it is possible that the telling of rape jokes may allow rapists to delude themselves into thinking rape is accepted, much like the telling of disability jokes gives the green light to the bastards who make fun of the disabled and make their lives a living hell. I am not convinced that stopping these jokes would have much chance of stopping these people though. Anyone that deluded can convince themselves of anything and don't need encouragement. Avoiding such jokes does no one any harm though.

Even better would be to up the punishment of those convicted of rape. A few hangings would do wonders to convince rapists that society takes a dim view of rape. Sadly (or happily, depending on your point of view) society aren't as willing as I am to deploy the noose.

Yeah, hangings solve everything; best deterant we have is giving people enough of a stake in society that they have something valuable to lose.

The US is almost the only 'western' nation in the world where the death penalty is still routinely ordered, and it also has some of the highest crime rates and % population in prison or amount of time spent in prison per person.

Pre-empt the crime; you spend more on social inclusion and less on excluding (criminals in prison) and save the state a boat load of legal costs.

As for rapists, they get some o the wors treatment in prison from other prisoners because rape is already seen as a horrible crime by society. BUT badly made rape jokes blur the line between acceptable sex and rape. A well told rape joke makes the horrible things humans do to each other the butt of the joke, not the victim.
Octavious (2701 D)

A hanged man is significantly less likely to repeat an offence that one given a prison sentence, and it would send a clear message regarding society's opinion of rapists that would be harder for a rapist to ignore than campaigning against jokes.

That the US makes such a hash of its justice system is irrelevant. Both the States that execute murders and those who don't have far higher murder rates than Europe. Rape is a rather different crime, however. In the Peninsula wars European armies, when capturing a city, would often rape and loot the local population. By implementing a strict hanging policy the British army was able to significantly reduce this. A rapist expects to go on living as normal after their crime. A murderer is often at the stage where the crime is more important to them than their future and the prospect of their own death can be largely irrelevant. Hanging therefore would be a far greater deterrent to a rapist than a murderer.

Blu-ray Fans
I just watched Star Trek XI on Blu-ray and it was awesome! I would definitely recommend it! Anyone else a fan of blu-ray films? What else do people think are great films to watch in HD? I watched The Matrix a few months ago as my first blu-ray purchase and that was pretty great too, so much depth.
