Delay of game
Dear admins,

We've been waiting in a web dip game for about two weeks now. Can you please force an un-pause from Europe and Argentina? Thanks!

Original 1958 Diplomacy is a trip.
Have any of you played on that map? It looks CRAZY. You can only build in one or two places. It allows for more than one unit to occupy the same space, and there are all those crazy extra provinces! WOW.

Are we just becoming professional mourners ........ how much time and thought will you spare today thinking about people who died on a boat in 1912?

Destroyed units of CD nations
I'm sure this has been answered before, but I'm not quite sure where. If a country is in CD, what is the order of the his units that are destroyed? I believe I saw somewhere it was the farthest away in a non-SC position first, is that correct?

Good game all. I realize the tide was turning against me, but there was still a lot of fighting to be done. Sad face.

Favorite (Short) Poems? (And Perhaps We Can Put A Few Of Our Own?)
I think we did this a while back, where we posted different things we'd written...and I've definitely had a "Top ___ Works Ever" thread (or two or four or four thousand) before...
So here they are combined--favorite short poems (ie, no Iliad/Paradise Lost/The Waste Land, good as they are, they're longer poems and in another category) and, for the brave...perhaps we can get a Poetry Corner going? :)

Wow! And particular as we did I think the last 7 years (or so?) as a live game, that was a little intense. Great game again guys, really enjoyed it. Will do full EOG but again, its like 3am here and really can't concentrate that well!

*particularly
I am not happy with the way this game turned out, but I have only myself to blame. I had great information about my neighbour to the north and I chose to put faith in him. The England in this game, while playing smart and earning a result far better than my own, played in my opinion a very poor game. Through 20 years of game play I gave him countless second chances and opportunities to play for a solo late into the game. he consistently stabbed me for no gains. He demonstrated some of the least class I have seen from a game like this.

Eventually, I knew I stretched myself too thin and I knew I had no shot, I only wish I was in position to help Turkey solo towards the end of the game.

I don't mean to take away from the game, it was a very good example of strong gunboat play.

"Through 20 years of game play I gave him countless second chances and opportunities to play for a solo late into the game."

What chances were those exactly? I call bullshit to that.

I don't really want to get into it thought because you don't seem willing to discuss - seeing as you've already labelled me classless.
hey Sarg.

what was going through your mind when I convoyed into Yorkshire

I kind of envisioned a giant "oh shit" look on your face, but that was probably to make myself feel better about being utterly destroyed
Sargmacher (0 DX)

Not at all.

It didn't surprise me much. My simultaneous stab of France and Germany was a mistake. I paid the price though. You were relentless in your single-minded drive to punish me. The convoy to Yorkshire was irritating and ensured that any solo chances I might have had were completely dashed (despite what Lando might think - sorry, I don't mean to be churlish but it's true, I had no solo chance) - but that was all it was. I found your suicide mission against me unproductive for your role in the game and writing this now reminds me of the criticisms Split Diplomat received yesterday for his punishing suicide missions - there's no real difference between what he does and what you did in this game, Eden. I think that is emphasized by the final move you ordered: a hold. Your suicide mission had disrupted me to the maximum and rather than attempt to gain a center for survival or as part of a draw, you simply held your position.

That said, I found it enjoyably challenging having to simultaneously deal with a petulant suicidal Germany and an aggressive, unrestrained Russia. It was fun and I was extremely happy that I overcame it. In the midst of all that chaos, I certainly had no room to be observing "all the solo chances" I was "being given" by France.
There was no way I was surviving to a draw, let's get real. That wasn't motivated by revenge... it was going out as hilariously as possible.
Great game, guys!

Overheating in Ubuntu
So, that thread on Ubuntu made me want to try again on my laptop. I installed 11.10 and I have the same problem as before. On windows, my computer idles at 33-49degC. In Ubuntu, it idles around 82degC. What's with the 40degC increase? Thoughts?

Who would win in a gunboat between seven of yourself?
A fun little exercise that has been helping my play style recently was to learn what bias I have in game. So pull out your dip board and make what you think is the best gunboat opening for each power, then play each power to the best of your ability to win. Who wins? Who gets eliminated first?
