First off, I want to say thanks to everyone for sticking around and playing the game. I can't tell you how much better the game is when everyone plays.
Next, I offer my congrats to Germany for the win.
To Bob: Thanks for the alliance. There was only that one spot that ultimately killed us.
From my point of view, I think that the first big help to Germany was the Autumn 1902 move. France and I had a great alliance going, (neither stabbed the other) and the support hold of belgium was what lost the front for us. I saw the move, but with only a minute to spare, and it was too late to call it. We talked about it after the fact and agreed that was what started Germany to his victory.
There was a chance for me as England to pull one out of my ass and make a comeback to make up for the loss of belgium. This was up on the Russian front in Spring of 1903. Granted I was planning to do this regardless, but now it was more important than ever for this to work. But, needless to say, Russia made the right move and bounced finland, which forced me to destroy. Had I have taken finland, Norway, Sweden, and if I'm not mistaken, St. Petes, would have been mine very soon and I would have gotten the build to deal with the German fleet surge.
Once Russia called that move, it was pretty much over on the english front. I fiddled with russia a little to see if I could sneak a build to save the Homeland, but he out did me. Good one Russia.
Other than that, I think it was one of the better games I've seen recently. I've never gotten 2 builds on the first build phase as england before. That was definitely fun.
Congrats to fedelc!!
