Corruption in American Government
How can a "Federal Prosecutor" invoke the Fifth Amendment in testimony before Congress and not lose their job immediately? I can understand invoking the Fifth, but not keeping your job as a federal prosecutor after doing it.

Would you rather be represented by trustees or delegates?
Dear political trolls,
Do you believe that we would be better off if we were represented trustees (who act in the best interest of the people they represent regardless of the popular opinion) or delegates (who act the way that the majority of the people that they represent, wether or not they believe it is in the best interest of the people)?

NFL Pick 'Em: CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK
AFC and the NFC all come down to this! Need to pick one correctly to stay alive. Will it be the Pats and their offense? The Ravens and the joke of their quarterback Flacco? The resurgence of Alex Smith and the 49ers? Or will it be Eli Manning and the Giants? PICK 'EM!

The ethics of resignation.
I'm in a game with at least one utter moron, and several people who may or may not be. Is it ever OK to just quit a game because the competition is utterly uninteresting?

Gee...a bunch of your morons said Gingrich was finished. Hmmm...Even AFTER the hit-job by CNN, Gingrich **DOMINATES** in South Carolina.

Time for all you know-it-all fools to shut the f*** up with your predictions. they are tiresome...and, clearly, wrong...You know who you are.
HITLER69 (0 DX)

Gingrich isn't even on the primary in all states... similar to Santorum. They have NO chance to win the nomination. It will be a two way GOP race in around a month. Paul - Romney.
HA This is like a dream come true! Go Newt!
This is going to cause Romney to stat slinging the dirt at Newt. The gloves are off now
Thucydides (864 D(B))

I don't think Newt Gingrich can win the presidency.

Therefore, if it is a 2-man race between him and Romney when the Texas primary comes, I'll be registered as a Republican to vote for Newt.
Newts got a vote in Jersey!!!

SOMEBODY has to make everyone aware of an EMP attack?! If not Newt, who?
I dunno who said Gingrich wouldn't do well in South Carolina. Most prognostications I saw had him winning it.

...speaking of, how in the world is Gingrich still in this race at all? Does he have money backing him I'm missing or something?
krellin (80 DX)
22 Jan 12 UTC
President Eden - if you read other threads on this site, you will find people had written off Gingrich...so the point was that this site is full of highly-biased loudmouths that think they know it all, but who deny the reality of how our Representative Republic actually works....i.e. people vote, the votes are tallied, and the winner is determined based upon the people COLLECTIVE vote....not the votes of one or two fruitcake states (Iowa, N)...nor is it based upon (biased-) media polling data. Also, generally speaking, the Republican primaries are determined by *Republicans*....not flmaing asshole liberals like Putin, etc...Thus most of the "discussions" and prognostications I find in these threads tend to me moronic at best.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

Say what you want about Putin, Krellin, but at least he regularly backs up his claims with facts. Being an asshole does not necessarily make him wrong :P
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Jan 12 UTC
@YJ - Putin's "facts" are usually loose and regularly irrelavent. He likes to take a statement like "that is a barbaric view" and interpret that as calling an entire nation fo people barbarians. His rhetoric fails under even the most basic scrutiny as he relies upon intentional misinterpretation to try and show somebody has a view they don't actually have. No, sorry, krellin may be abrasive but Putin is intentionally obtuse.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
22 Jan 12 UTC
Point taken, Draugnar, as I seem to remember making those claims against him myself on many an occasion. Perhaps it's just that I agree with him this time.

"He likes to take a statement like "that is a barbaric view" and interpret that as calling an entire nation fo people barbarians."

If it's a barbaric view then how come laws which implement that view and the people who support them aren't barbaric? You can call me all the names you want but you don't bother addressing the point.

Anyway there are quite a lot of states which allow "flaming liberals" whatever that means, to vote in the GOP primaries.

Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow did the best job to get Herman Cain the most votes for a candidate that is no longer running.

Still, I expected better. I honestly thought that Cain would beat Santorum and maybe even Paul in SC. I guess SC takes their republican candidates seriously.

Is SC an open primary or do you have to register as republican?
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Jan 12 UTC
SC is open.

Colbert wasted his time & money.Campaign finance reform has no play in a reactionary state like SC.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
22 Jan 12 UTC
Still, Putin, with an open primary I'd be sure to get out and vote for Cain and am surprised that more leftists did not.
NikeFlash (140 D)

Stephen Tyrone Colbert will only ever run for president of South Carolina (his home state). And he did not waste any of his money, Jon Stuart used his super PAC money to both support and attack his campaign. Stephen Tyrone Colbert had no say in what Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow did, just go to their home page...

"Putin, with an open primary I'd be sure to get out and vote for Cain and am surprised that more leftists did not."

Because people don't want to lose their ability to vote in Democratic primaries for the benefit of humor. And also people don't want their personal information to be in Republican hands for spam and other purposes.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

... but there is no dem. primary this term. You can choose differently every time, right?

Romney/Santorum running for the GOP? Newt and Perry seem finished...that leaves Paul, and Romney's won most of the states, and Santorum has the mainstream support--is Paul done as a GOP candidate? 3rd party run? Totally out?
