Why yes, I need a sitter who can watch this account and the one on vdip.

I haven't got many games going, and I shouldn't be gone more than a week.
It's just that next week is exam week and I need the time off.

I think Holmes meant to ask how many Ds are needed to go up a rank on the profile page ("political puppet", "experienced", "diplomat" etc). I don't know, but I do know it goes by available points, not total points.

I just broke the 100 available pts barrier for the first time, going from 87 to 147 available pts, and my rank changed from puppet to 'experienced'

My rank, in the past five minutes, just went from Experienced to 'member' not sure why it changed again, my position (3760 / 7248 (top 52%)) is still the same tho

I don't believe it is a number as much as how you compare to others, but I could be wrong. I may have to dig into the code for this one.

The way I see it, if you play with a higher percentage of players...say you are a political puppet and you play MadMarx and god forbid you BEAT him. You're rank will shoot pretty high assuming you play with other skilled players as well. That's what I think.

False. That "rank" just has to do with how many points you have, I'm sure of it. It is effectively meaningless. It called me a Pro after my 2nd game.

Sandgoose, what you are looking for is the Ghost Rating system, which is done, but isn't officially on the site (http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/ then "The Ghost-Rating List").

They come out monthly (though it's been late recently due to TGM's hiatus), and if you've played for an entire month with a game that ended, you'll get on the list.

Speaking of TGM and GR, can one of the mods or a volunteer take over for TGM?
His work is tremendous, and I would like to see continued and posted regularly.

What I wanted to see is the list of points/ title'
ex. <150 = puppet, >500= pro, >2000 = Diplomat, etc.

After some searching through the source, I found that user.php defines the rankings as follows:
Top 5% (by points available) - Diplomat
Top 10% - Mastermind
Top 20% - Pro
Top 50% - Experienced
Top 90% - Member
Top 100% - Casual player
Casual player apparently never comes up, causing it to default to political puppet.

Looking at people's profiles, it seems the ranking system only applies to people with 100

available or more, and gives the rank as political puppet otherwise.

Dharma, there's no set point number you can reach to achieve a "Mastermind" ranking, for example, since the amount of points is always changing relative to the number of players on the site. As more players join and more players get refunded points to return to 100, the total number of points available on the site increases, which is why the rankings are determined by percentages.

Dharm: you should check out the ghost ratings page - it's the metric by which more experienced players rate themselves. Most people don't put a lot of stock in your points or your "rank." Take Draugnar, for instance... one of the best players on the site but he never has more than 400

or so at any given moment.

In fact, moderators, isn't it time that TGM's list is linked officially? Not suggesting we do away with the system already in place, but since so many put their stock in GR it may be a good idea to introduce it as an unofficial corollary.

Logic puzzle: 4 is universal

The idea is that there is a pattern or set our rules by which every number is assigned another number and if you continue to apply this pattern you will eventually reach the number 4. For example: 20 is 6, 6 is 3, 3 is 5, 5 is 4, and 4 is 4, thus 4 is universal. The object of the puzzle is to figure out the pattern. Reply with any number and I will show how it becomes 4. If you figure it out, please post an example to show you know it instead of posting the answer.

The Holocaust complicity thread.

It seems that a large percentage of individuals on this site do not understand the truth about the complicity of the French, Italians, Dutch, Belgians, etc in perpetuating and widening the Holocaust.
This is too important to ignore. Thus the critical need for this thread.
