How to contact a mod
I am wondering how you contact a mod for an issue within a game. Our game was paused by the Webdiplomacy system and we have 2 NMRs that won't be able to vote unpause. I assume a mod would be able to fix the issue, however I don not know how to contact one. Any help would be appreciated

Game 69351 Problem with Pause
Game 69351 says it's paused, but it's not, or at least, it accepted my orders. The players didn't pause it, so I don't know what's up.

Ok, first of all, I'm not mad about the game, but look at England and France:

Is really THAT much of coordination possible in a gunboat? I think they are communicating with each other or it's the same person.

A consequential voting day?
Tuesday was weirdly quiet in California. Usually we have a host of ballot initiatives, the evil intentions of which are only partially masked by their purposefully poor writing. Any other 'Murcans, except for Buckeyes, have a lot at stake on Tuesday?

Momentum and Efficiency
Do you have trouble growing quickly? Do you hang on for one or two thirds of the game but never really get anywhere? Do you find yourself participating in a lot of draws as a minor power or simply being eliminated much of the time? Help is within..

Take a look at your games. Look at the orders you have placed. Are they filled with hold and support orders?

The key to gaining momentum quickly is to...wait for it...move! Units that are holding aren't building momentum. Units that are supporting aren't building momentum. Only units that are moving build momentum. Maybe this seems elementary, but really, go look at your games and see whether or not your units were moving.

Ok, did you go look?

Really...take time right now to go see for yourself...

Ok, now that you have looked at your moves maybe you see that a lot of the time your units were simply sitting around doing nothing.

"But Jacob," you say, "my units weren't doing nothing. They were performing vital hold and support tasks. Without those orders I wouldn't have gained the territories I gained and I would have lost some territories that I was able to keep instead!"

Let me answer this claim by examining the game of chess for a moment. Oftentimes in chess a piece of lesser value will threaten a piece of greater value. Consider a pawn advancing to threaten a knight. Many times a player might respond by simply moving the threatened piece to safety. When you do that though, you might as well have never moved the knight there in the first place! Momentum is now gone.

Now what if instead of moving the knight to safety the player was able to move their bishop to threaten the opponents queen or king? Now the knight's move was not wasted. Momentum and efficiency have both been preserved.

Here are some ways this principle can be used in diplomacy:
-get other people to do your supporting for you
-when faced with a choice between protecting a center or gaining a new one, gain the new one! (maybe your opponent won't take your center)
-take the time to analyze your opponents position. You don't need to waste a unit's move supporting another unit if you know where your opponent is going.

The sooner your orders are filled with moves the sooner you will see victory within your grasp.
I completely agree with all of the above, but will play a kind of devil's advocate anyway to bump the thread and hopefully create discussion.

Is there not a cost benefit analysis in this equation somewhere? Let's get back to basics and assume that momentum still equals mass times velocity. in this scenario mass would be number of units. So in your quest of momentum there is always the necessity to keep that mass.

So what about stationing armies as stab-preventors? Or when unsure about the opponent's move, playing it safe and covering your home centre vs. 75% getting one from your enemy?

Also, if everyone were to follow the advice to get others to do their supporting that would just create a horrible tragedy of the commons type event.
I am a weird mix of very aggressive tactically and conservative strategically, I will use this advice, I do notice the games that I win are the ones in which I never really stop advancing

Stationing armies as stab-preventers is perhaps necessary sometimes - but only when your diplomacy has failed to accomplish a suitable dmz of the area. If you are constantly having to leave stationary units or support your own holds and moves then perhaps your diplomacy is a bit suspect?

As far as home centers, I think people sometimes worry about them too much. What's the difference between Austria going for three builds and only getting two because Italy took trieste and Austria playing it safe and covering Trieste while only going for two builds?

Well, a couple. If differences as it turns out - first Italy often doesn't attack Trieste and so in the first case Austria gets three builds and in the second case he gets two, but can't build a fleet because he moved back into tri.

France, Germany, and Italy run into this type of situation most often.
@gman - correction, it won't be tragedy of the commons, it would be a public good, with no one having an incentive to provide it.

My problem is moreso that I often grow to become a significant power - 8 centers or so - but quickly stall out from there on. As a result, I've tended to become more conservative in my moves and while I survive for longer and more often, I still never get farther. So the question I ask is - and I face this all the time - do you input a move that guarantees you a center, though it puts a unit out of a favorable position, or do you risk it and hopefully keep that unit there. the example I can think of is if you are trying to take, say Munich, as France. You've snuck a unit into Tyrolia, and have Burgundy and Ruhr. Germany has a fleet in Kiel and army in Berlin. Italy has an army in Venice and Austria one in Vienna. Do you risk that Austria or Italy would come to Germany's aid (you're not attacking either) or do you guarantee Munich while losing the favorable position in Tyrolia?
I'd say I would tend to the latter, because if Austria and Italy aren't at war with Germany (they usually aren't), they have no incentive to help you bring Germany down (accelerating the resolution of the western side of the board without gaining a substantial benefit for it) and plenty of incentive to hurt you (decelerating that same resolution, allowing them to resolve their side faster).

Goldfinger0303, I think it depends on your press, but in terms of momentum and efficiency I would say the clear choice is to leave tyrolia in a more favorable position.
