Unfortunately that's not relevant. The same thing happens to employees of companies whose bosses commit crimes or drive the company into bankruptcy, or families who unwittingly adopt children from an agency which abducts and distributes children for adoption. A student of mine worked for the Ohio Attorney General who was engulfed in a sex scandal and had to resign, my student lost his job and is now in school as a result. Is it the children's fault when their father or mother commits a crime and they wind up in foster care or at the very least, without one parent? No. Are they still adversely affected? Yes. Is it fair? No. But are we going to say the father doesn't go to jail just because that leaves someone fatherless? Absolutely not.

The school expropriates from the labor of the players, and unfortunately the players make the program the money. This school has no right to continue to make money off of football until the entire program is expunged of anyone associated with the Spanier-Curley-Paterno regime and anyone who worked for or supervised Jerry Sandusky. Football should not be reinstated until the federal authorities investigate the university root and branch and the university is prohibited from having any association with children under the age of 16. In fact, football probably shouldn't be reinstated at all, but at the very least this should happen.

Considering none of the players have an ounce of perspective and all are whining about Paterno being fired, I don't have much sympathy.

College coaches aren't elected officials, and you're second point about abused kids winding up in foster doesn't relate to the situation...except if you were to make the case that the new coach is like the foster parent.

Your above link has tweets from 14 players, hardly the entire team. Some of them are obviously more intelligent than others, but a player saying he feels sick about the situation is hardly whining.

The point is that there is always third party damage in cases like this, the greater sin would be allowing this football program to play.

Because of the riots/parading. I'd say the riots were the problem, not the firing. Anyway the guy isn't a lawyer for any of the victims. He's a lawyer for an NGO.

Putin, you are being just as reactionary as the kids who rioted after Paterno was fired. In your rush to burn it all down, you're forgetting about the most important thing that should come of this...helping abused kids! What will shutting down the uni, or the football team, do to that end? Nothing.

PSU, in part because of their football team, is in position to do a great deal of good. If they take money made through football to help charities set up safe-havens and consoling for abused kids, provide scholarships so they can go to college, and do all they can to help kids move past being victims to being survivors, wouldn't that be better than not only putting thousands of people out of jobs who had nothing to do with the situation, but providing nothing to those they ignored to get here in the first place? It wouldn't make up for what has already happened, but it would be the right thing to do moving forward.

All that being said, if PSU uses all their money to fight the abused kid's lawsuits, then I'm in agreement with you.
