Favorite SSBB Character and Stage:
The question pretty much sums it up.

I would have to go with Final Destination with no items, I think that is the true measure of skill. As for character I am divided, I like Pit because he is simple, and has ridiculous projectiles, but he sucks at finishing. So it's either Pit or Link for me.

Zealotry?
There was a recent comment about the site being highjacked by religious zealots that I thought was pretty funny and decided to indulge the idea. Since I'm probably one of the "zealots".

I hope you win Austria
the moron playing France doesn't deserve to be included in a draw.
hellalt (70 D)
04 Mar 10 UTC
You fucked it up Austria. The game was yours...
Frank (100 D)
04 Mar 10 UTC
im not sure why i qualify as a moron, hellalt. after italy, turkey and russia all civiled early on, i had to work to eliminate you as fast as possible so there could be a unified front along the stalemate line. in a gunboat game, having me you and england all trying to hold off austria without talking wouldnt have worked. im not sure what in particular you are referring to.
unless you are upset that i spent energy at the end to pop your last unit. that was just to get more points: a three way draw is more lucrative than a four way.
Frank (100 D)

you have played 95 games though and i respect that. so i am genuinely curious to learn what you think my error (or breach of etiquette) was.

Don't worry Frank.... Every of hellalt's sentence must have at least one of the words morons or fuck in it. And if you ask about his behaviour you will make it on his 'fucking morons' list.
hellalt (70 D)
04 Mar 10 UTC
Karl, you need to improve your English.
Frank: Before Austria grew big at some point I tried cooperating with you against England who was a bigger threat at the beginning of the game. I even let you pass through Mun but you didn't care. You just aimed for scs. No sense of strategy at all.

The jab at the English is a low blow.

He also needs to learn to press ready when playing a live gunboat.
Last night we played an ancient med game for 3 hrs due to him.

hellalt-- looking at the archived orders, i think you are referring to the point where you popped in Munich after autumn of 1904. i suppose this was you "letting me pass through munich"? however, since you had in spring of 1904 dislodged me out of burgundy, i guess i wasn't able to read your change of heart quickly enough. also i'm not sure how me passing through munich would have helped in that situation--the closest english unit was in warsaw, which fell to austria the next year. plus at that point, england had 9 centres, while austria had 11 (and the good luck of a non-existent russia, italy and turkey)

in summary, im not sure im the one with "no sense of strategy at all."
hellalt (70 D)
04 Mar 10 UTC
Frank, your only strategy was to increase your scs. A typical PPSC perception and a typical amateur one too. The turn I gave up on bel and mun you could have figured out I wasn't going to fight you anymore and you could head against Austria with my help.
Neither you or England cared to stop Austria. You just kept on pressing me from the start of the game till the end. That's why Austria reached 17scs. Reality speaks for itself.
Austria on the other hand could have won the game attacking mun with 3 supports a few turns before the draw. But I guess you were lucky.
Anyway, I have the right to judge you (and the opposite) any my impression was that you played like a typical amateur.
Frank (100 D)
04 Mar 10 UTC
hellalt, i admit youve played a lot more than me. but it seems to me than my strategy (which got me the draw in the end) is better suited to a 5 minute phase, anonymous, gunboat game. in that type of game, where its tough to explain, assume or coordinate strategy, securing my border and building up strength seems like a logical plan.
in the end, i got the draw and you were defeated. obviously one game (and the accompanying forum thread) doesnt prove anything. so, why don't you join another live anonymous gunboat game tonight and we'll see what happens:
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=23106

look, hellalt, i went with a strategy that gave me a decent shot of become a pretty large power and eventually forcing a draw. i chose to increase my scs.mayb

sorry that last sentence shoudlnt be there. it was part of an earlier reply.

I had no chance playing Germany with 2 powers targeting me right from the start.
I cannot play again tonight. It's 5 am here. I need to go to bed soon enough.
Besides, not even a second game will prove anything...

Dear Newbie
My one piece of advice: Please consider where your enemy will retreat to when you attack him. If you take a worthless province, and he retreats to your SC during a build turn, your attack was really dumb. That is all.

How long do live games generally take
I am interested in playing a live game sometime, but I need to know how much time I will need to reserve for it. (I have 3 small Children, so time is at a premium). How long does an 'average' 5 or 10 min/phase live game last?

I'm shocked, France didn't even show up and he didn't die until 1908, amazing. And Austria and Turkey both came back from the brink multiple times.
