The Seven Wonders of the MODERN World
The title says it all... what are the Wonders, not just great structures but structures that MEAN something just at the very SIGHT of them... which Seven post-1000 AD are on your list (1. Pyramids DON'T count, they're "honorary" as they're still standing from the old list 2. structures repaired but not BUILT post-1000 such as The Great Wall and Coliseum don't count 3. Can have been already build and destroyed/gone)

The closest I can think of (in terms of human life) would be the construction of St. Petersburg. You could try to figure monetary cost, but I think that human cost is the most telling statistic.

2) Alrewas Memorial
3) The White Cliffs of Dover (When they were white)

7) Hadrian's Wall

Maniac - that's even more patriotic than Draugnars list :P
Out of interest, how many of you around the world know all of those on Maniac's list?
JECE (1248 D)

The White Cliffs of Dover (natural)
Hadrian's Wall (Roman)
Those are the only two I know. Oh, Iknow what a zebra crossing is. Is that the Beetles one? How in the world would that be a wonder?

@Jece - "I know what a zebra crossing is. Is that the Beetles one? How in the world would that be a wonder?" Are you mad? This world is made up of many great things, but is there anything better than music or more generally art. The Zebra Crossing represents music and art. It also shows how the seamingly mudane can be transformed into something iconic - it shows us that a simple bit of black and white paint can, in the right circumstances, take on the world. It stands up for the little guy and screams, you don't have to be the tallest or the most expensive or the most complicated, you just need to be functional, do you job and hope that one day you can have greatness thrust upon you.

Whoever said Mt. Rushmore... YEAH!

Didn't even think of THAT... but yeah, not only is that iconic, massive, and easily one of the most solid structures in the world (the Pyramids and Mt. Rushmore could likely outlast any and all steel buildings... sheer stone and granite are still such great materials)... on top of that, it really is sort of the classic Wonder- big, stone, depicting national pride AND leaders or gods.

And Washington, Lincoln, Abe and Teddy are all pretty much Gods among most men...

They've got THEIR faces forever immortalized on a mountain... awesome and truly awe inspiring...

And I STILL stick by the Globe Theatre- we have enough tallest statues/buildings on this list, let the quirky Globe with all its amazing magic in...

@figlesquidge All but Alrewas. What is that about.

This depends a lot on what you expect from a wonder of the world. Does it have to be an engineering feat, like the traditional wonders of the world? Or does it have to be iconic for something in some way?
pastoralan (100 D)
02 Mar 10 UTC
I think it has to be something that makes you go "whoa" as an engineering feat, which goes beyond the patriotism of one nation, and which has a meaning beyond pure usefulness. And given the speed of technological advance, the list would have to update more regularly.

I can think of 5 that I'd put on a list, and can't figure out how to differentiate between other second-tier options.

Large Hadron Collider
Burj al-Khalifa
Grand Coulee Dam
Panama Canal
Kennedy Space Center

@pastoralan - I totally agree, I think you have composed the best list so far, but I would replace the Grand Coulee Dam with the Three Gorges Dam, way bigger, way better.
KaptinKool (408 D)

Also I have been saying Burj Khalifa all along, people just don't realize how ridiculous a feat that building was.

The Motherland Statues in Kiev, Volgograd and Moscow deserve to be in this discussion too. You cannot fathom how really, really big they are. And as far as human cost, its hard to argue with Soviet deaths in WW2.

Which Country is Best in World Variation?
I'm fascinated by this new World Map Variation, and I wanted to see if I could start deciphering which countries are the best to play. So I took some statistics on previously/currently playing games online.

Drawing or not drawing
So when you are in a situation with a 2v2 stalemate, one side wants to draw but the other side refuses. (there is no possible way to break through without a stab) What do you do?
