hehe - don't worry about it man - as long as you're learning something from each game the victories will come. =)

I agree with jacob, learning in each game is the key, sooner or later you get your first win, it took me a while.

don't get to down on yourself for a mistake or a missed move, lots of people make these mistakes.
and if you only learn one thing, remember to never ever let your brother sit your account for the weekend :)

@jacob- I think i would rather just leave my moves be for a weekend than let my brother decide on where to move my units. :)

I've picked some bad allies, and left myself open to some obvious stabs, but i suppose that is all part of the game. The mistakes that get to me most are when I don't double check my orders and order tri-vie, instead of ven, or build an army when I needed a fleet. Cutting down on these kind of mistakes can improve gameplay no end.

I also enter orders as soon as i know a turn has passed, even before i speak to people, I then know that I will make some kind of moves even if I can't get back on before the time runs out.

Well, in my very first game at the site, I tried to do things like swap A-Den and F-Kie, by moving them against each other... which resulted in a bounce... OH WAIT! I won that game. =P

Haha, though to be honest, extremely little communication happened, England started out by declaring in Global that there was a western triple without consulting either France or I (Germany). Also, the site was so old that it at the time it was mostly a variant, as you could build in any SC, convoys didn't work correctly, and you could dislodge your own units.

I'm Austria, Autumn 1901. See how I chose the worst possible set of moves. And, not to brag, but I was ahead, and ended up winning, game #2 of the same series, so I am not a "noob".

We all make mistakes, we all find ourselves in unwinable situations. But the more games you play, with time, you'd find yourself more often in good positions than in bad, and you'll learn to make the most out of both of them, most of the time.

For the record, I think you played a good game in 'limb by limb'.

Yeah, to echo Xapi, your opening in 'limb by limb' was very sound. Unfortunately it looks like you missed a move in 1903 and from then on things went downhill. But stick at it, and you'll do fine.

i also think vexlord played well in our recent game, and i know that austria-hungary is one of the more challenging powers to play.

i also got soundly wupped when i first came to the site after not having played diplomacy on a board for a number of years. even having played for a while again now, i still get pummeled regularly. in a fairly recent game i was playing germany, which i hadn't played since joining the site, and changed my strategy halfway through the pre-game, pissing off everyone, even those i wanted to be allies with, and was eliminated at an incredibly swift rate. worst of all, one player would not stop whining about me in global tab and in one-on-one and how he was going to kill me, insulting, etc, and then i got so frustrated i stooped to his level and also insulted him. anyway, needless to say i learned a lot from the experience about not making strong commitments until some moves were made, not letting someone else's BS get to me (still working on that), and how to better play germany.

i was recently on a really bad streak, i kept getting eliminated or losing out to a solo in all my games. it was very frustrating, but by seeking out players who are fun to be in the game with regardless of how well i do, that helped to ease the pain and i tried to learn from each loss. now i'm on a better streak, but i'm sure i'll be losing again soon =)

In the 15 SC I should have won. I made the blunder of not looking for a way of forcing the win, because I thought a 1 SC France wouldn't be bothered to do anything.

Also, from about April last year to October, I didn't survive a game.

<- This. I think I had more fun being backstabbed by djbent than soloing a league game. And then making up with her. And then backstabbing her myself.

(Not that I didn't have fun in the Leagues in general, in terms of actual play, they're amongst the most exciting games I've been in.)

another lesson I learned was the that there is a reason there is a little (NC) (SC) in bulgaria / st pete / spain
