Civil Disorder
I see many usernames in games with Civil Disorder next to them. What exactly does that mean? Did they leave the game? Do they not want to play anymore? How do you put yourself in Civil Disorder, if the latter is the case? Also, what would be the point of taking over a game when the country you are trying to take over is in Civil Disorder? Thank you for your time.

Playing record bug and auto-disbandments.
Once or twice I've ended up in a PPSC game wherein the last supply taken to form an 18-center empire is also my last supply center.

On the forum, I then see a message that says I survived until the end of the game, but "because this is a Winner-Takes-All game, [you] received no points." I think this shows up on my record as a Survived rather than as a Defeated, even though I was actually defeated in the last season. A problem?

I entered a move (Aegean Sea support hold Greece) and it didn't show on the map. It didn't effect me at all, but I could've lost Greece. Would a mod check and see? game ID inside.

I realize this is a long shot but I'll put this one out there.
I am playing a game called 15 minutes. The phase length was set at the minimum, which is 1 hour. But we all agreed to take 15 minutes per turn. Now three of the players has dropped out.

Saturday Live Game
Organizing a live game for this Saturday afternoon-evening. A cheap buy-in--probably about 5 points. I don't have any serious time constraints, so we can discuss a start time.

Short term games
It would be awesome if we could play games with shorter phases than an hour. I am playing one at the moment where we all agreed to put our moves in within 15 minutes. It worked well at first but then three players dropped out. No we have to wait an hour per turn. If the phases could be reduced to 15 or 20 minutes we would hadn't have to wait for two hours until they went CD. As it is a great game has been spoiled somewhat.

Since we don't have a system here to show any preference for any country in phpDip, does anything feel that they're being assigned a specific country too frequently as compared to any others?
I'm playing/have played 11 games total, and France was selected 5 times... Anything like that?

Pauses and Civility
How often are pause requests rejected?
jbalcorn (429 D)
22 May 09 UTC
I'm in a game where a player has requested a pause, but one player didn't vote or comment on it (although he has been using press) and another decided to withdraw his /pause because he missed a turn earlier and was in a bad situation.

How often does this happen? I've had a few games pause, and I've never seen anyone have a problem with it before.
OMGNSO (415 D)

Anyone who does reject a request is a complete git.

I'm not up on my British idioms, so what is a git? If I was trying to use a British term I would have gone with "is a complete wanker." But as I said, what do I know.
OMGNSO (415 D)
22 May 09 UTC
@Alderian
Because some people have become upset about swearing lately in the forum I chose to use a word that is less sweary. Other than that I don't know what git actually means: I just like the sound of it.
OMGNSO (415 D)
22 May 09 UTC
Also "Is a complete wanker" is the least of what I could have said had I not had these concerns.
jbalcorn (429 D)
22 May 09 UTC
Hmmm. apparently this poor guy is in 4 games - and ALL FOUR aren't pausing. The people in the game I'm in say they see pauses being rejected all the time. It seems there's a disconnect between Forum participants, who I often play with, and others. That's actually not surprising, it's all about community.
Akroma (967 D)

if everyone but a single person has voted for a pause, everyone should gang up against the one who is witholding the vote and is using it to the disadvantage of the one who asked for the pause.

this is a game, and eventhough lying and cheating are cannonical parts of gameplay, there is a difference between gaining a fair advantage through skill, or being a dick to gain a unfair advantage.
Such players deserve to be eliminated as fast as possible.

To be fair, the person who wants the pause has to ask for it in time. If he waits until the last day, then it's his own fault
OMGNSO (415 D)
22 May 09 UTC
Perhaps there should be a majority vote rule so if 6 players accept the pause and there is one who is trying to misuse it the pause still holds.
jbalcorn (429 D)

I think peer pressure is enough in most cases.

He asked Thursday morning (around noon GMT). THe first turn that hurt him went off this morning. So there was about 24 hours between his request and the first time it hurt him. He'll CD in about 11 hours. Luckily for him, his biggest rival on the board is about to CD also.

If anyone wants a 7sc England, that's a great opportunity for a pickup! :-)
"Anyone who does reject a request is a complete git."

LOL, I'm reading the latest novel by Christopher Moore (who has gone down hill since Lamb), and that's where I learned the word 'git'. Never heard it before, so this thread is now the 2nd time.
dangermouse (5551 D)

What's his latest? Read Lamb, Coyete Blue and a couple others - they were great.
The latest is 'Fool'. Lamb was a great book, actually re-read it, which is something I never do. If you like a book that pokes fun at religion in a light-hearted way (much lighter than say the movie Dogma), its a great book. I find myself bringing up the book anytime someone mentions that Jews (in America anyway) stereotypically eat Chinese food on Christmas.
jbalcorn (429 D)
22 May 09 UTC
I live in an area we sometimes call "Little Israel".

The Chinese food restaurants are always very busy on Christmas. :-)
For those who haven't read it, and this won't ruin it, after Jesus and his childhood friend Biff (who tells the story) are expelled from Jerusalem, they go east and study for years under a Yogi. The Yogi has a few hot female Chinese 'employees' who serve as servants/cooks/concubines. Every year on Jesus's birthday, they would cook him a big feast... so even after he left the Yogi, he always wanted Chinese food for his birthday.

Certain players join games, and request pauses for reasons that should be obviously foreseen.

"My family is going on vacation." "I have a week of exams coming up." etc.

Such people are rude, and should be told where to shove their pause request. These instances are rare, but they do exist.
Chrispminis (916 D)
23 May 09 UTC
I don't think I've ever seen a pause request denied personally, but it's at the discretion of each player whether or not they should pause it.

If you can't get a pause, you can also try getting someone to sit your account while you're away. Just post in the forum and let a moderator know.
WhiteSammy (132 D)

did you know that the adhesive on the back of israel's stamp is certified kosher
Draugnar (0 DX)
23 May 09 UTC
Onar, in what kitchen? Kosher is more than the food, it's the way it's prepared down to the utensils used to cook it. For Jewish households that follow the strictest traditions, they have a set of pans for each type of food and certain ingredients cannot be combined. This is mostly due to the past when those ingredients could spoil and result in foodpoisoning before modern refrigeration and an understanding of virii and bacterium.

We are waiting on one player to unpause. The game was forced to be paused because one of the players was suspended. This player has not logged in since it was forced to be paused and the phases are 18 hours. He would be in CD if the game had not been paused. Is there anyway to unpause it without him?

Should we do EGS for League games? or a bad idea because we're playing again soon?

Also, is trim101 our game starter? RL has kept him very busy, so I'm not sure game 2 will start anytime soon.
