Indeed, if it wasn't random you'd get a more even mix. As it is, with random assignments each game is independent, which means in the short term you're actually more likely not to get an even mix.
There has been talk about weighting it to even out hte balances over time though

Yeah it is easy but I really don't like the Russians lol they're so bloated.

I seem to spike countries though. Got Austria in 5/6 first games, then Russia in 4 of the next 6. Then drew Italy 3 times in a row followed by Turkey 3 times in a row.

I tried to count through mine, but I got bored sorry. As far as I can tell I've got quite a good mix, but a little light on the Russian's. Still, I'm not complaining - I've never been particularly good as them!

OK, here's my count of what countries Thucydides has played:
England 4, France 6, Italy 4, Germany 3, Austria 3, Turkey 4, Russia 10, for a total of 34. So yeah, that is about a third of the games (which would be closer to Russia 11).

What is the probability, assuming random assignment, that in 34 games a given person would receive at least one country at least 10 times? Well, that is complicated to calculate, so I'll calculate something smaller but easier: what is the probability a given person would receive Russia exactly 10 times? I get about 1/87. So one can see why Thucydides is suspicious, but with 12245 registered players and 4916 games, it's not surprising that this has happened some time.

Actually, it's not much more work to calculate the probability that, in 34 games, a given person would receive at last one country exactly 10 times: I get about 1/13. That's really not very uncommon, and the probability of ~at least~ 10 times (which is what one really should go by, but makes the calculation much more complicated) will only be higher.
