There's a 7-centre Italy, prime for taking, in a mid-level game, which I think you should take...check Chairman Mao's profile to get the game.

New Game: Wonder Game
This is my first created game, and as a new player, I could do with some people happy to play a rather slower strategically placed game. That said, anyone wanting to take advantage of a new players inability in knowing the game, please feel free to join and absolutely destroy me ;)

Please add this to the FAQ:

What happens to the game if a player does not log in and place his orders after the phase time is up?

Quitting. How to do it?
Hey guys, this might sound like a really dumb question, but how do you remove yourself from a game? I am going away soon and was wondering if it was possible to leave the game so someone else can join.

Why can't we be friends?
As the appropriately named band WAR put it, "Why can't we be friends?" I meet some great players on here who I try to play with again and again. Right now I have to do it with a text file list and a search tool. Wouldn't it be neat to have a list of friends on the site so I could see at a glance if anyone was in a game I could join?

MODS: Another game missing units

All units are gone, there's a big red X in Ruhr, and I'm being asked to retreat from 2 SCs which were physically impossible to have been dislodged.

The 2nd annual pitirre awards
For those who don't remember the first time round, pitirre was a member here. Near the end of 2007 he suggested having awards for the best players of the year, which was a good idea. He then announced that a panel had decided that basically he was the best. So, I've made this thread for people to nominated themselves for rather suspicious awards!
ps: be inventive!

Support Hold Question
I am new to diplomacy and had a question about the support hold.
Must the orders of the nation being supported explicitly say hold or can it support another move or engage in a move expected to bounce and still gain the support?

Someone needs to jump on this CD
I was just looking through the available games pages (not that I have time to play right now) and noticed a great opportunity for anyone with the points needed. France is in a good position and it looks like Germany might be trying to stall to give extra time for someone to jump in. I could be wrong, but check it out for yourself.

Ban player?
The player "GameMaster" (player no. 0001) is doing the following:
A) Multiaccounting, with two accounts called "Civil Disorder Germany" and "Civil Disorder Italy", which seem to join every single game where 4 < players join < 7.
B) Hacking the site. (See 1st post)
See: rest of website for obvious proof.

GFDT 2008 - Round 1 - Game 11
why was this game drawn, I wonder ?
there seemed to be no kind of stalemate, and plenty of possibilities to go by. A 6-way draw seems strangely out of place

Well, F/G started off very strongly, and took Tunis, whilst there was more 'balance of power' play in the East, meaning that every Eastern power was alive. A Grand alliance of the four Eastern powers formed to stop the F/G, all voting for a draw, to indicate that they wanted F/G to split before they would. Then Germany voted for a draw when he was stabbed, and because Austria got a unit behind France's lines, France voted for a draw before anyone was able to withdraw their vote.

Well, what leads to certain things happening can be very interesting, which is the point in the game.
Akroma (967 D)
05 Jan 09 UTC
yeah, but the game was already very interesting as it was, and was far from decided

more interesting stuff would have ensued if it went on
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Yes, but most people were scared of what would have happened if it had gone on...
Akroma (967 D)

taking risks is the funnest part in a good game of diplomacy

it would be a boring game when I don't suddenly get out of the bed at 4 am to double check orders
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
05 Jan 09 UTC
Yes, but in this instance, the only person who actually voted for a draw when the draw past was France you see. The rest of us didn't expect a draw.
Akroma (967 D)
05 Jan 09 UTC
when you didn't expect a draw, then why did you vote for it ?
once 5 of 6 people voted for a draw, the last person would give into peer pressure easily
figlesquidge (2131 D)

I did - I expected it!
The eastern nations voted for a draw a long time before in the hopes of pressing myself (germany) and France into breaking our alliance to break their defence. However, we didn't accept it. Some time later Germany stabbed me after I missed a turn (which is understandable).
I had been stabbed and so lost the security of the stalemate line. France had a lot of other games going on, I had made clear I would suicide against him and an Austrian unit had retreated behind his lines. All in all, he and I agreed to rush through and accept their draw request which they had forgotten to remove.
Oh, and that was one tough game! Was it the pick of the draw or was the tournament just a lot harder this year?
Akroma (967 D)

the harder the better

TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Chris reckoned that it was the hardest game in the draw.
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))

There was a purpose to not withdraw the draw vote. I used the fact that here you have a draw voting system in which people post votes sequentially and in the open to
1. Use the Draw vote to rally the unity of the Grand Alliance and put pressure on F-G
2. Secondarily by getting everyone in the Grand Alliance on the vote it then would be obvious to any party that things were breaking apart if they withdrew their draw vote,

Phone Call
I am very good friends with the player qwerty, and just got a phone call from him. He has been banned from the computer and will not be able to put his orders in for a week. What would be the correct thing to do in this case, because he asked me to put orders in for him, but I don't want to.
