Global Tab
I've twice been in games where some eejit has posted a private message to me on the Global tab by accident - which kinda messes up whatever cunning plan you might have been devising....

There's an argument for a warning message to appear when a Global message is posted, or at least when the first Global Message is posted:

"This is the GLOBAL tab. Are you SURE you want to post this message to ALL players? Are you SURE that you're not, in fact, some kind of moron?"

Personally, I don't think it's a such a good idea, but I thought I'd open the matter for discussion....

Would anyone be interested in a seven game WTA league?
I would like to be able to play the same six opponents in a set of seven games where we each get to play as each country exactly once. A gamemaster would be needed to set up the arrangements but that would not be difficult...

The snag is that we could not do it in php... as we do not have control over the way the system allocates countries.

Just wondering aloud really. I have thought about this before a few times...

The pots could be small, but the overall results would be interesting.

Meta-gaming?
Maybe I'm a bit too quick in my judgement, but how often do you see someone registering and taking over a country in CD on the same day (the only game he is playing in at the moment), and then moving in such a way as to leave all his available SCs open for the taking by another player (who just happens to move exactly in the right way, attacking without support and taking all SCs?

Well, you can see it here, with the new Austria giving up everything to Turkey: http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3875

Can we do something about it, please?

Thanks,

D.

DO NOT JOIN - 100pt WTA game - Canutian Wars!!!
canute and TinTin are 'together' again. This is, at the very least, a meta-gaming situation, and more than likely, one multi-player.

If the game proceeds, then canute will win due to TinTin's slavish assistance, followed by TinTin's mysterious collapse.

BE FOREWARNED.

seriously reconsidering roosevelt
let my contextualize this. my family is half republican, half democrat, all northern. the northern democrats in the last century were solid union liberals and roosevelt supporters. contrary to the perception of the republicans as a southern & conservative party, however, in the north the history is very progressive & liberal. so it is a different tradition than the current republicans.

so here is the thing.

i have been watching speeches today by roosevelt. now, during my public school days, i was taught by the teacher union history program (not a bad one, i scored perfect on the tests) i was taught roosevelt with lincoln were the high points of US history, but especially roosevelt. if you have also been to US public school, no doubt you have been taught roosevelt = new deal = victory in WW2.

however, i have as i mentioned, been watching these FDR videos. dude's a fucking fascist. no way around it. very, very scary. i am actually questioning the whole thing now - how much of that honorable tradition is a lie? you know?

yes, i'll give you the whole country in depression, the whole world in peril, the ultimately liberal views of the US prevailing = good for globe. but FDR? he was basically a dictator - this makes me very uncomfortable with this period in history, and this is a period which is emphasized in public school as the key to modern america. its a very disturbing thing, if you can imagine.

i am really wondering what is the truth behind my republican relatives and their philosophy of opposing the new deal and isolationism at the time of WW2. granted, you probably have to fight those nazi bastards. but under a dicator? chilling - anyone know what i mean?

I attacked Greece from Bulgaria in order to block France from using it for a support move into Bulgaria. However, even though Bulgaria was under attack, support wasn't cut! Is this a bug, or is there some obscure exception to the support-cutting rule that I'm not familiar with?

Flashman raises an interesting theory... Rait dissapears, and another extremely talented player shows up... AND he wants to create a huge game to make a new first place player (it's in the forum somewhere)... I'm not saying anything, I'm just sayin'... ;)

I've played MadMarx twice, but I've never played Rait. Has anyone played both players? Are they similar in any ways??? Maybe I'm just a conspiracy nutjob...
BoG75 (6816 D)

As long as you dont play Rait and anlari in the same game you will be fine.

This extremely brilliant guy is playing two games he could win with high probability, thus raising his win ratio to an amazing 100% over 7 games (if he does not start anything else in the meantime).

you guys are funny... just a little beginner's luck, nothing to worry about... rest assured several of my opponents have made it quite clear what a poor strategist I am, one is quite adamant that he will never work with me in any future games due to my intolerable incompetence... anyway, it's been fun while it's lasted, but as flashman points out, not much chance it will continue...

Yeah, nice work MadMarx...don't sell yourself short. Winning 7 games in a row is a tremendous feat. In fact, I think it may be a record on this site if memory serves.

Whats your secret MadMarx? We all know Rait's secret weapon is anlari but what is your? I need to know before we meet in a game.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
23 May 08 UTC
Holding grudges does seem a bit immature to me, especially when playing Diplomacy... Don't worry, I won't be challenging Rait any time soon. I'm quite confident to exit my 8th game in the first few years, which is why I'd like that game to be for a total of 10,000+ points, it's my way of thanking this site for the fun I've had, by donating my points to someone that will hopefully take over 1st or 2nd place and add a little excitement to the site/standings. I would love to join an intensive press game, though I do want to try to get that 10,000 point game first... As far as my secrets, I can think of three off the top of my head: luck, ignorance and paranoia have all served me well so far...

BoG75, you're starting to get on my nerves. Seriously, shut the hell up. You accuse me once, fine. You accuse me twice, swelly.

Why are you so upset? Maybe because it is because obviously you play with Rait in every game. No shame in announcing it to everybody. Maybe two of you are school buddies or cousins or whatever. But please dont deny it because it is painfuly obvious to all.

You are sounding very pathetic in your profanity laced posts and only points the finger of guilt on you harder.

MarekP (12864 D)

Rait played 82 games in total here with the win ratio of 60%. With Anlari Rait played 12 games (15% of his total). He has won 7 of them, what is the winning rate of 58% -- slightly less than his total.

BoG75, would you share your analysis, which you has based your statements about Rait and Anlari on, please?
anlari (8640 D)
24 May 08 UTC
We went through all of this analysis stuff before - he is so bitter that he won't change his mind.

I am sorry for losing my calm, but it is getting really annoying, with him running a defamation campaign against me even in unrelated threads such as this. The guy is fixated over me and Rait, and his vocality about it might start affecting my games if people buy it, which I don't want. Maybe I should make a new account or something.
MarekP (12864 D)
24 May 08 UTC
Anlari, Diplomacy players tend to be rational people. I don't think they will believe baseless accusations when numbers show something different.
anlari (8640 D)
24 May 08 UTC
So I thought, but as I said, we've already been through the whole statistical proof thing with him in another thread he started to accuse me... and he still goes on.
Chairman Mao (340 D)
24 May 08 UTC
Well....to begin with, congratulations to Marx. really keep going and beat Rait....

I havent played anlari and Rait together, but playing you two separately before, I really dont believe in the accusations. If its really true, I would also want proof to show, because its really a big accusation to accuse 2 of the best players around being metagaming.......

Btw, I think the most likely person to take over Rait's #1 is MarekP....you got a whole big Revelstone for grasp. Take it and you're very close to Rait...no?

Didn't include No Press games.

If you look at all these games you will see that in each and EVERY one of them when they had the chance they worked together. Only time they attack each other is in the end game when one of them, mostly Rait, attacks the other for a solo.
Once again I have no problem about that but please do not deny it. Every player should be aware of it and then they can make appropriate strategy.
MarekP (12864 D)
24 May 08 UTC
BoG75, you wrote: "We all know Rait's secret weapon is anlari," however this is not true, because Rait's winning score was lower in the games with anlari than his total.

"Note: Only game I played with two of them (France). Was being attacked from the start and never stoped until Autria and Turkey were going to win the game. I threw the game by making sure they didnt win." I don't think I need to comment on that..

Of course I like to work with people like Rait, Figlesquidge or Marek, interested in knowing why?

1- I know that they are rationalists and not just some stab happy kids that will ruin the game for both of us because they're paranoid or just can't wait to stab.
2- They are willing and able to communicate
3- They are good tacticians, which means initial success against common enemies is easy.
4- When I stab them or finish them off, they won't go kamikaze on me like BoG did, nor stay bitter over it for months and keep accusing me of all kinds of stuff.
anlari (8640 D)
24 May 08 UTC
That, however, in no way means that I'm giving them the game.
anlari (8640 D)
24 May 08 UTC
And hell he fails to mention that in at least 2 of the games he listed I stabbed Rait and almost won the game until he turned the tables around.
BoG75 (6816 D)

anlari: If you admit you always work with certain people no matter what, point proven.

Case closed. Thats all I wanted you to admit. Thank you for being a man enough to do it.

Now we can get on with our lives.
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
24 May 08 UTC
I've played in a game or two with anlari and rait, and their only objective is to win or do the best they can. All this metagaming accusation is pure piffle. They are both extremely good players, and obviously may work together at some point in a game if it suits their interests. However as soon as that is no longer the case, they will stab the other as quickly as can be achieved.

Come on BoG75. This kind of accusation isn't backed up by the figures. Let's all shake hands and make up, and congratulate Madmarx for his excellent start to Diplomacy. I for one would quite like to play against him, so will be setting up an intensive press game in the near future now the first one is in the endgame.
anlari (8640 D)

anlari: Its ok appology accepted, man. I am done.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
25 May 08 UTC
Hey cgwhite32, how many points were you wanting to wager in your game? Oh, I don't even know what it technically means to play in an "intensive press game", so you'll also need to explain that...

Anyway, looks like I'll barely have enough points to start a 10,000 point game (there's a chance I'll have an extra 50 points or so), though I suppose I could start an 8,000 point game and save a few hundred for your game... Let me know what you're thinking as I may try to start my game in a day or two...
anlari (8640 D)
25 May 08 UTC
I don't remember accepting any apologies for defaming me.
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
25 May 08 UTC
Basically, an intensive press game is simply to try encourage good players to send more messages than usual in a standard game. I wasn't thinking a huge pot - actually around 50, but with an invitational 7 of players who I know would be interested and have the time and skills to do intensive press. What do you think?
Wombat (722 D)
25 May 08 UTC
Anyway, back to the topic, its now 86%.

Good job Marxy I look forward to a game together with you
sean (3490 D(B))
25 May 08 UTC
our int press game doesnt have loads of press but it is a good way to weed out people who play 20 games at once and never reply to messages.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
25 May 08 UTC
Hey, I'm all for the intensive press game, though as I've said before, I may be lacking in the skill department! I can pretty much only disappoint after the start I've had, it's just a matter of how much of a disappointment... I have never even played Russia or Italy in a 7 player format before, so I obviously have a lot to learn...

Anyway, in 20 hours or less I'll have the points to start my really big game, though I may not start or join a game for a day just so I can savor that 100% win rate in my profile a little bit before it disappears forever!! :-)
Stevelers (3084 D(G))
25 May 08 UTC
And I can finish one more game? Someone's at seventeen, in one of my games, and I'll get a decent payout... Could you make the buy-in my score, so I can play?
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
25 May 08 UTC
Stevelers, I will probably try the big payout first, but if that doesn't fly I will keep reducing the point total until I can get a game going... Plus, as you mentioned, we have played together twice in my seven games, so I don't want people calling you MadMarx's "anlari", even though my win percentage is the same in games I've played with you as games I have not played with you!! ;-)
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
26 May 08 UTC
Hey cgwhite32, let me know when you plan to start your game. I still have a few hundred points and I don't plan on joining any other games any time soon besides yours, so feel free to put a few more points on the line than 50 if you'd like...

latest improvements
Hi there,

I am back after a long break. I looked at the help and tried to figure out, what improvements have been made since half a year ago. At that time, we had some issues about the adjudicator, now it is claimed phpdiplomacy has adopted all the official rules. Specifically, I would like to ask:
1. How are double-coast provinces handled? Can we now move to Spain north coast?
2. Can we now retreat fleets from double-coast provinces?
3. Can we still dislodge our own units?
4. Can we now support a convoyed landing?

Congratulations to the maker(s) of the site, and thank you for your clarifications.
