Available games...
When I went to bed last night there were about 32 games I could join, some of them had been listed for a few days already.

When I awoke this morning there were only three (now two), and my points have not changed...

That seems a bit weird.

Is winner-takes-all unpopular?
I just noticed that only a very very small number of the games are played in the winner-takes-all mode.

Is there something prevent us from playing in a winner-takes-all game?

Feature idea - automatic draws
A lot of the forum is taken up with draw requests, which Kestas doubtlessly has limited time for.... how hard would it be to include a feature whereby every player has an option, in the taskmaster, to "Accept draw" , with the game being automatically drawn if all active players check that option?

(Btw, the link to the "todo list" under "Post a message" points to faq.php instead of roadmap.php....)

No you're not, cos I'm gonna post it now.
:p
Starring:
Hyperactive Jam - England
Dant818 - Austria
ednos - Turkey
McCain - Russia
Feckless Clod - Germany

(I should first point out that Austria and Germany have been eliminated; Russia holds Scandinavia and Germany, and Turkey holds Moscow, Warsaw, Austria and all the interesting bits of Italy....)

Rus: you still aren't getting any of my SCs, jam.

Eng: w/e, they're too cold anyways, I get seasonal affective disorder.

Rus: If you change my color to brown, I'd be a very effective Germany.

Eng: In all your might and glory, you have yet to conquer the territory of Ruhr.

Ger: The People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr will thank England not to interfere in it's domestic affairs.

Tur: The Ottoman Empire recognizes and respects the People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr's authority over its domestic and international affairs and is looking for an economic partnership in the near future.

Ger: The People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr recognizes and respects the Ottoman Empire's authority over its domestic and international affairs, and wishes to assure the Ottoman Empire that the People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr has no hostile intentions towards the Ottoman Empire at this time.

Eng: The British Empire *sips tea* recognizes the sovereignty of Russia over her Scandinavian territories, and does not *sips tea* wish to intrude. The British Empire also recognizes the authority of France over the French territories, and *sips tea* wishes that France respects the authority of the British Empire over her own.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some scones to tend to.

Ger: The People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr wishes to advise the Ottoman Empire that the British Empire does not apparently recognize the sovereignty of the Ottoman Empire over her territories, and to advise the Russian Empire that the British Empire does not apparently recognize the sovereignty of the Russian Empire over her Russian and Germanic territories, and presumably therefore intends to invade Moscow, Berlin and St. Petersburg. And probably Ruhr. Bugger.

Eng: The British Empire would like to stress that it cannot be logically accused of what it did not mention, as it also did not mention that it was aggressive toward any part of Russia or Turkey, and that it can be assume that the British Empire is peaceful to all nations at the moment. Clearly the British Empire is no threat to Europe, and is far more interested in hooking China on opium.

Rus: a good cause. hot chinese women on opium is a good thing.

Ger: The People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr wishes to enquire of the British Empire if we can score off you.

Tur: The Ottoman Empire suggests the reduced proliferation of English opium in the Orient in the interest of keeping at least a small portion of the world's tea supply in Europe, as the Ottoman Empire recently found interest among its populace in acquiring a source of tea. In order to appease its angry, rioting citizens, the Ottoman Empire rechristens itself the Democratic Ottoman Republic of the People and revitalizes its military in a renewed effort to acquire London, the world's tea capital, at any cost, no matter who stands in the way (*cough* Russia *cough*).

Rus: The Russian people are always looking to score.

Ger: The Ottoman Empire "rechristens" itself?
Some mistake, surely?

Aus: This is turning out to be interesting. Keep it up this is gold!

Ger: The People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr formally recognizes the state of Was-tria.

Tur: The Democratic Ottoman Republic of the People recognizes the formal definition of the verb "christen" and employs its faculties in the most Muslim sense of the diction available. Please do not misinterpret her intent as an implication of state religion modification, as the populace of the Democratic Ottoman Republic of the People have not ratified these measures through the appropriate committees, forums, sessions, congresses, briefs, and petition forms. If the People's Autonomous City State of Ruhr continues to undermine the bureaucratic process, the Democratic Ottoman Republic of the People will be forced to take military action against said state after the appropriate committees, forums, sessions, and congresses have been notified through the appropriate petition forms and have produced the appropriate briefs and signatures from both parents.

Ger: Golly, that sounds like a lot of work. Couldn't you just ask God for guidance?

Feckless Clod (777 D)

Naming no names, I must share another of my favourite exchanges:

Aus: Hello, what are your planes?
Eng: They're heavy, fixed wing aircraft, but that's not important right now.
Aus: Are you from Paramount Comedy?

ednos (529 D(S))

This wasn't even an intensive press game; someone was just commenting on Ruhr still being brown and Germany made an absolutely brilliant reply.

Noirin (2827 D)

Brilliant :)
A pity the Ottoman Empire rechristened as the Democratic Ottoman Republic of the People will way too soon conquer Europe and thus stop this.

Actually, I think you can still go on and write after the game's over, although the others don't get the notification as while the game is still running.

What are the chances public chat will be made public to the world upon game end as a future feature?
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
15 Apr 08 UTC
I would like to see an area where we can have 'game reports' for really interesting and exciting ones, with contributions from each of the players. It happened in the old strategy articles on a website (I forget the name) and in many of the old dip magazines. May be worth trying to start up as a separate part of the site if people think it's worth it, and someone can code an extra tab?
figlesquidge (2131 D)
15 Apr 08 UTC
I think it would be nice to have the public chat public through the entire game and on into the future
McCain (100 D)
15 Apr 08 UTC
This was a very interesting game. There was a juggernaut alliance that was very successful, until Russia had all her armies poised to conquer France and Turkey stabbed the motherland.
The sun never sets on the British Empire, nor on your destruction.
ednos (529 D(S))
15 Apr 08 UTC
It was indeed a juggernaut alliance. I feel sort of bad about stabbing you, but France pointed out that you were about to win, which scared me. ("Autumn 1905: Quick question... are you playing for second here? Russia will win within 4 turns if you don't turn on him very soon.") I saw the opportunity not just to draw the game but to win it, as you had nothing protecting you from my armies, who were en route to the front lines.
"An alliance with the powerful is not to be trusted" -- I don't remember who

teehee
McCain (100 D)
16 Apr 08 UTC
Now France gets to win. You should know when playing the Juggernaut as Turkey that Russia always wins when Turkey doesn't attack it. If Russia doesn't have to fight in the South, it means Austria is dead, because Turkey must be attacking it. This means that Russia can fight England and Germany and have its armies in place before theirs. Turkey, meanwhile, has to fight it out with Austria, fight it out with Italy(who probably got fat on Austrian leftovers), and then fight it out with France(who got fat on Italian leftovers)
ednos (529 D(S))
16 Apr 08 UTC
France will win over my dead body, good sir. The Democratic Ottoman Republic of the People will prevail so long as I am available to command its armies.
McCain (100 D)
16 Apr 08 UTC
nah, France will win, period. Those last two SCs are going to be hard to get, and you are going to lose in the med.
ednos (529 D(S))
16 Apr 08 UTC
Then perhaps I'm fated to die.
Feckless Clod (777 D)
16 Apr 08 UTC
The comedy thread in the global chat was fun, but what's with the global chat in the comedy thread?
ednos (529 D(S))
16 Apr 08 UTC
Don't worry; the Democratic Ottoman Republic of the People is currently communicating privately with the Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias regarding the international crisis. We expect to see results shortly.
