Kestas: Can you stop a game for us? WWI (Mark 2)
Turkey, Germany and Austria have obviously lost and are willing to surrender so as to free everyone from aving to make further moves.

The English, French and Russians are willing to forgo the pleasure of wiping us off the map and will take the early win.

I am not sure how this is done, but we would be greatful if you could arrange this.

Thanks...

Errors were made. Errors were punished.

I actually cannot remember the password...

Maybe someone else in the game can help?

Anyway, I, France accept my enemies' surrender.

Are we even sure this kind of thing can be done? I was under the impression we would have to eliminate them, even if they had already conceded, before a draw could be made between just the Allies. When I look at other drawn games, everyone who is alive at the time is included, and we don't want that, we won fair and square! lol

i rail against this. play to the end, kestas shouldn't have to decide every single game.

I vote that this game everyone should just take back their=points or not at all.
freakflag (690 D)

Fastspawn, drawing is a legal part of the game. But Thucydides, you are right. The others must be eliminated first.

As far as I know, the only way would be for someone to post a link to the map. That could still be done, and if you went onto view the map you would see it, and using a bit of common sense you would be able to view the newer or older phases, based on that link
doomreaper44 (100 D)

The easist way to end the game, is to simply stop turning in orders

Wondering if I'm able to get my points back as I was drawn Italy and was trying to go to CD, but it never happened. Sorry for holding the game early on. Anyway I would like to play a new version of this hopefully without me being drawn Italy.
sean (3490 D(B))
31 Jan 08 UTC
yes next time we need to be clearabout ONLY 6 may enter the passworded game. seems clear on our game that if germany falls/damaged and you dont have acces to northern fleets then the game will be much more difficult to win. what problems have the allied powes had?
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
31 Jan 08 UTC
What we saw predictable enough was the Axis countries making early gains through the Balkans and getting to Italy first with Russia left hanging on to St Petes. And in the North, Germany getting smashed.

Ultimately I don't see don't see how the Allies can break through the Ionian or how the Axis can break through in the North without any fleets. If the game is played out with all the correct moves then it should be a stalemate.

In the end it came down to which side makes the most mistakes/miscommunications with orders.... which I guess is not entirely unrealistic.
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
31 Jan 08 UTC
(perhaps shouldn't use the term Axis ... but you get my drift)
sean (3490 D(B))
31 Jan 08 UTC
can you post the game number id so we can see it
Thucydides (864 D(B))
31 Jan 08 UTC
Yes our victory was largely due to a lucky mistake made by the enemy, I ordered a unit to attack alone on the off-chance they had a miscommunication, and they happened to have one, so I was able to flank them and things went from there.
kestasjk (95 DMod(P))

I can't surrender players, I can only draw games. All surviving players will get an equal share of the pot
flashman (2274 D(G))
31 Jan 08 UTC
Thanks - even though I will not survive...

I wonder whether the Italy joins late and chooses his own side is a better version?

The real problem for fighting WWI is that Germany should get to kick-off one move early and have more units to start with. Would it be feasible for a game to start where Germany is allowed to take one of the low countries before anyone else moves...?
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
31 Jan 08 UTC
I think whichever side Italy joined would be very hard to stop. And if he joins too late then there would be nothing left of it.

Germany moving first would be interesting - but i think the early momentum favours the Axis as it is and I still think it would end in a draw.

I wonder if the games creator toyed with the idea of giving Germany 4 armies from the start? (i guess would put Russia in more peril earlier though).

genesis foundation mentioned using 2 areas as dmz to give the game some more balance. they were Silesia and??

England, France, and Russia have surrendered in our WWI Honor Rules match (gid=2671). I'm not exactly sure what was decided in the other WWI game, but if it was drawn between the victors (in this case, Germany, Austria, and Turkey), could you do the same thing here?

The other players should be posting shortly. Thanks.
Shisuren (587 D)

Baaah ignore that. I might've just figured out the forum reply bug works though (probably way slow, but that's typical) - had this window open in a new tab and a regular post message in the other ^o). *goes to post properly*

yeah, im not sure how we can end this game now. happy to have the victory. but how to end it? kestas can only draw the game so unless we keep on playing with the other side deliberately leaving sc and within 2 turns being wiped out i cant see anyway but deciding on technical "draw" and all sharing the points, what did the other gane do in the end?
Thucydides (864 D(B))
02 Feb 08 UTC
Exactly what you're saying. We are systematically elminating the Central Powers, once this is done we will declare a draw to split the winnings between the Allies.

No Retreats possible
Hello,

Currently in the private game The Big Show, there haven't been any retreats possible in the last couple turns - people have been forced to disband. At first I thought it was because there had been standoffs in the possible territories to retreat to during the preceding turns, but now I have this situation: My italian fleet was kicked out of bulgaria last turn, and should be able to go to either greece or the aegean sea, neither of which were contested. Is there something I'm not getting?

Dear Kestas...
Sorry to bother you, but we have requested a draw for the game:

Sephiroth...!!! (Game ID 2497)

and both parties have replied to the original post in this Forum to show agreement. It is possible you haven't seen it because I did not put your name in the title. I apologise.

There is a thread for this game which contains the agreements.

Thanks for your atention.

My suggestion
There has been a sudden rash of draws.
I propose, that to rid Kestas of the hassle of manually having to draw each game, instead to award every single person who is still present during the draw points equivalent to half their initial bet.

I have just been eliminated from a no-press game...
The first I have tried, and I started with a wrong order... Really a bit annoyed with myself about it. However, the game itself was a refreshing change and I would very much like to start/play another one.

Anyone up for a game?

Meta-gamers....
In http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=2754
I found that a 3 man band appearing in another game reappeared....and apparently, they are close friends that makes moves a one or even a meta gamer.......in the game, france had deliberately left portugal untaken, and if u check the logs, there is no conflict.....

I have played these guys (yeunghauyip, wing09, roger1994...) before and the same happened, they play with a game-long alliance, and even when empty scs are around, they never invade into each other's country

even worse, yeunghauyip claimed to me in the opening of the other game that they "know" each other well and he even has the password for wing09's account........

plz, either ban them, or would they come up and deny the charges.....
admins plz keep an eye on them.....

anyone interested in a new game?
anyone interested in a team game?
i notice the rules have alternative ways to play for less players(or in this case fixed teams)
4 teams
1.eng
2. austria/france
3.germany/turkey
4.italy/russia

OR

3 teams-
1.eng/ger/aust
2.russia/italy
3. france/turkey

3 or 4 which is better?
honour rules- no backstabing your ally. goes on till one teams wipes the other two out. then can end in a draw.
would this work? anyone want to give it a try?

Phantom army
Hello, Kestas. Great piece of work.

One question. I had the following move reported in game THIRTY TWO:

"Spring 1903, Diplomacy: Your army at Kiel attempted to move into Ruhr but there was a stalemate."

Problem is that there was no-one who could move into Ruhr to create a stale mate. Any idea how this happened?

Thanks in advance.

Does St. Petersburg have coasts, as in the real game?
When russia places a unit in St petersburg, does it have to decide which coast to build on? Or is the decision of which coast its on made when Russia sends it one way or the other?
Say it moves into barrents sea, can it then move back thru the russian mainland into GoB?

How can you tell which coast its on if there is a difference?

Drawn Games and The Pot...
I thought that the pot was divided evenly between surviving players (ignoring decimals)...

I though seem to have been awarded just about the full pot for the game Crazy9s... Very generous.

I am concerned on two counts:

a) I didn't earn all those points,
b) have my fellow players lost out?
