If anyone cared that much about their profile comment they could easily save it in a document on their local computer.

This is exactly why I keep a backup of my profile in my computer, just in case the mods ever find those multis of mine.

How about don't get banned. You have been worrying about inane things like NMR destroys and banned peoples' profile comments. Surely there must be more exciting things in your life.

I think it's a legitimate question. If someone is wrongly banned, it would be nice to know their account can be as unchanged as possible when they are unbanned. Certainly not the most pressing thing to deal with, but no harm in mentioning it.

Ignoring the possibility that you're not being serious- How common is this? How many players get banned, then unbanned, THEN want to restore the content that they had in their profile, and can't remember it?

I don't think that number is likely to be very high. I think there are other changes we could make first that would affect more users.

y2kjbk: Well yes, of course. If the website disappeared, keeping a local copy would be the only way to save your Profile Comment. But not every user expects to get banned or fears the website might go down at any moment and get wiped. So hence the issue remains.

It's a nice suggestion. As TC says though, we would hardly ever be using it. And it does not require a 'simple policy change'. If I understand you correctly, what you suggest is that mods manually save the profile comment of each user that is banned. Which, considering the amount of users that are banned on a daily basis (mostly to never return), this is a lot of manual work for very little gain. It'd be interesting if it was done automatically, but as TC points out, there are more pressing items. All in all, for now, I think it remains the users' resposibility.

So what probably isn't clear is the mods don't manually remove and change the profile comment. When we want to ban someone we have to enter a reason in a text box, and the site auto replaces the comment with that reason. Kestas designed it that way for accountability.

I think this is a good time to bring up another issue with being banned: getting back the original amount of points someone had. When someone is banned they will go down to zero, so it would be useful if we could somehow keep track of it if they get unbanned. A possibke way that would not involve any coding us just putting the number of total and usable points in parentheses at the bottom of the profile or something,

How far apart will the total and usable points be displayed?
