PW Gunboat 5 Point Challenges

Would anyone like to join me for some passworded 5

@Celticfox: The Challenges are open to all. Glad to have you on board.

@dubmdell: Flagging an NMR is unnecessary in my opinion. I will flag as 'RESIGNED' on the roster any player who resigns from a game and they will not be invited to any further challenges as they will have failed.

@sanctacaris: The game was drawn. New challenge games will be started tomorrow.

Games 7, 8, and 9 have been set up. When they have started I will post game links and roster in this thread and also update the spreadsheet. (NOTE: Please see Sheet 2 'Games' for a full game roster list and game links.)

@Celtic: Invites to games are sent out through PM.

@dubmdell: Please don't talk in this thread about in-game play until a game has finished.

EOGs would be a great idea. However, I suggest separate threads for lengthy EOG discussion.

As for CD players - please do not start a trend for PMing players, it's not a good idea. Rather - send me a message and I will look into it and deal with it. As a general rule, if a CD occurs before 1903 or occurs after 1903 and significantly affects the game, then the game should be drawn (not cancelled - for, as stated, this is a League (of sorts) and it is important to keep games recorded). We should all use common sense - if a player who is on his last legs CDs then game play should obviously continue.

A number of people have been asking about 'rule' issues so I will speak with Vaft over the next few days and we will post a simple set of rules to cover the 5 Point Gunboat Challenge Series. This will help resolve matters, such as NMR or CD situations, quicker and easier. To be posted here and on the spreadsheet.

I've gone through the thread but it's a bit of a mess, and all of you aren't that clear. "Any length" means that you're fine with either 25h/48h, and if nothing else is stated, it's assumed that you can play any number of games. If you prefer 25h or 48h, if one of these is unacceptable to you and it's not in the spreadsheet, if there are just plain errors, if you want to limit the number of games, PM me and tell me all these things and I will update the spreadsheet.

Sarg, this is my problem since yesterday's game, for which you commented the EOG as well. In a WTA game, when the player realizes he will be eliminated before the draw, and he still has a lot of units, but CDs, then should we continue?

And if so, who is capable at all deciding what would have happend if the player with 3+ units or even more would have continued. My main problem is, defining "on his last legs" gives a lot of uncertainty, and as of this reason to argue with the result.

As a general rule, I would suggest "continue always when CD occuring after 1903", not because it's a good rule, or because I think CDing after is always because of last legs, BUT because this would be a rule which is definitive and easy to decide/use, even though it might be not always fair.

I'm okay with 1-3 center powers CDing when it is post-1903, simply because statistics bear out that this is significantly less influential than a pre-1903 1-3 center CD (See Tru Ninja for what I am referencing).

However, I think /any/ CD should be marked against a player. There's no reason to not simply input a finalize on holds, if you're intent on giving up the ghost. Hell, I fight tooth and nail to hang on to one center, even if I have to trapeze across Europe to do so!

Exactly. That has already been established. KiNg oF DipLoMacY, for example, has now been marked as 'resigned' and will not take part in any more games because he failed the Challenge.

Sarg, to clarify, we have established that even NMRs will be flagged? I thought you had said we would only mark CDs? I'm all for flagging NMRs, but I want to be clear on what you mean by "That has already been established."

Ok, if it wasn't clear let me clarify again: Single or non-consecutive NMR occurrences are not going to be recorded or flagged. Any player who goes into CD will be removed from the 5 Point Challenge and the game will be drawn.

Why does Germany go to Sweden in Fall '01 so often?

I can understand moving to Denmark in spring to keep the threat alive as diplomatic leverage, but by moving to Sweden right away, Germany angers Russia. Germany's usually going to be able to take Sweden away when he chooses anyway if Russia doesn't open strong to Scandinavia, so why are people so eager to make an enemy right off the bat?
