PW Gunboat 5 Point Challenges

Would anyone like to join me for some passworded 5

gunboat games? I'd like to get as many people involved as possible for some fun gunboat games not orientated on points but that are still good quality. Add your name to the list if you're interested please. All games will be anonymous and 25 hour phase length, thank you.

Seeing as the 5

Gunboat Challenge idea has become so popular I thought I would put a bit more work in to making it special so I created a public spreadsheet, with a full roster, useful information, and full reference of game information, including participants and game links.

It's the first time I've ever made one - I would like to get it as professional-looking as Geofram's gunboat tournament spreadsheet (https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&key=0AnO6yyQ1Ewj7dG9SWmtmYlBDVUVuU1dRczVJZGJUSUE&hl=en_US&gid=1) but I still have some things to learn until then. Perhaps if someone has more knowledge on these things, they may want to help?

If interest carries on, I think it might be fun to make the 5

Gunboat Challenge into an informal gunboat league series. Would you guys be interested if that was happening?

Oh. That's on Sheet 2. It's not the easiest thing to see though - which is why I like Geofram's spreadsheet for having it at the top - but I don't know how to do that at the moment...

Hey, Sarg. In another thread, KiNg of diPloMacY indicated he was about to stop submitting orders in all his games. It looks like he's involved in a couple of these games. I'm worried we're going to see a couple CDs soon if he isn't replaced. Is there any way we could replace him before his first NMR (which, I'm guessing, will otherwise happen in about 12 hours), since he's already indicated his intention of leaving. I'd hate to see one player's flakiness ruin what are otherwise some really good games.

Thanks a lot for setting this up. I'm really enjoying the two games I'm playing.

Santacaris: It seems KiNg's dramatic crisis was actually averted: he will not be abandoning the games. Don't worry, I had a check on it as soon as it came up on the radar. Thanks for your input though!

Hey Sarg, is there a way that we can flag players who NMR/CD and decrease their likelihood of playing against those of us who, uh, prefer games without NMR/CD?

Yes. That is why I would like games with CD players in to be drawn, rather than cancelled. Then, the games are logged and I can update the list with a flag saying that they are a player who CDs. These games are only for 5

so I think drawing rather than cancelling should not be an issue.

If you have a CD in your game, vote draw - then we can flag.

How do we need to flag an NMR? Can we edit the spreadsheet to flag a country in a particular game, then that player when countries are revealed post-game? Or should we just post here, "Game X, Country Name?"

Why does Germany go to Sweden in Fall '01 so often?

I can understand moving to Denmark in spring to keep the threat alive as diplomatic leverage, but by moving to Sweden right away, Germany angers Russia. Germany's usually going to be able to take Sweden away when he chooses anyway if Russia doesn't open strong to Scandinavia, so why are people so eager to make an enemy right off the bat?
