What's been up with the timers lately?
They've been really off. I just had it go from "1 minute, 5 seconds" to "Now" in less than 20 seconds, and when it does get to "Now" it takes like 30 seconds to roll over... Not just on my home computer, either.

What is up with Bible School Thread? Can anyone explain to me?
In all honesty, I do not think that there is any justifiable reason to quench the Bible Verse thread of Majus - everyone has a right to expression. Other than, being a short step from advertisement spamming.

This may only be a recent coincidence, but I've been accused of being a multi-user in a couple of my past games by enemies on the board, and having 'neutrals' just assume I am one because somebody said I was.

There's no surprise that if you look at belief demographics the younger teenage/college ages view life with theoretical and big idea views that make no sense when applied to real world life experiences. And the majority of these people are swayed over to a realistic view once they get more experience, families, and responsibilities.

It's obvious which side you fall on.

(insult?!!!)

And inherent means this: existing in something as a permanent, essential, or characteristic attribute WEBSTER SON!!!
Humans are not permanently bad or good, they are not essentially bad or good but at any one time, humans do not have a characteristic attribute to bad or good and can NOT BE DETERMINED without a religious outlook on the matter which strays from fact!!! Good and Bad are determined by society but without knowing the meaning of life then it is incorrect to accurately state morals.
TrPrado (461 D)

"And the majority of these people are swayed over to a realistic view once they get more experience, families, and responsibilities." Wait, so society is a hive mind!? The real world scares me now!
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
TrPrado and I joke/discuss about communism a ton, secondly the majority of the population of North Korea likes the government and has no reason to believe that they are oppressed.

Secondly you are claiming i dont see real life situations but you are the one still grounded in the belief that murder is viewed as wrong by everyone in the world which is simply not the case!
ag7433 (927 D(S))
06 Oct 14 UTC
@ JamesYoungster -- murder is wrong. Do you agree? That's the basic question.

I was arguing, yes it is wrong because as a whole civilization agrees it is wrong.

Do you argue this???
TrPrado (461 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
"a ton" is a bit of an exaggeration. I'm also very sarcastic in those discussions.
ag7433 (927 D(S))
06 Oct 14 UTC
I'm not talking about abortion, death penalty, war, defending yourself...

I am talking about walking down the street and stabbing someone in the eye hole with a shiv. The clear, cut basic murder for the sake of murder.
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
I agree that murder is wrong. Your statement about murder being universally wrong is incorrect because there are OTHERS who believe murder is fine given the circumstances.
TrPrado (461 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
Do you expect to conduct a survey and get people to say that they're always fine with murder? The silent minority that is fine with it isn't going to tell people that it's fine because they don't want to be persecuted by the majority.
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
and as @TrPrado stated Pyschopaths see nothing wrong with randomly stabbing someone in the chest. therefore murder is not universally seen as wrong
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
if even 1 person says pure simple murder is okay then your statement is wrong. i believe there is at least 1 psycho out there.
ag7433 (927 D(S))

@ TrPrado -- Do humans have 2 arms? 10 fingers?

Yes.

Why is that hard?

If I were to ask this question on the forum, you both would be debating until blue in the face saying, humans have no arms. Some have many arms. Nobody knows how many arms humans have. There must be no such thing as humans! What is a human!

You're arguing for argument sake.

Using this example, it's safe to say that murder is held wrong. That your belief that murder is wrong is held my mankind.
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
@TrPrado did we just win?
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
Some humans are born with defects and no arms
ag7433 (927 D(S))
06 Oct 14 UTC
You just won the right to say that you concede.
TrPrado (461 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
Wait, what? First, the ten fingers is based more on how you classify thumbs. Next, they could have arms or fingers cut off. Not EVERY human has 2 arms or 10 fingers, just like how not EVERY human thinks murder is wrong. That's the point.
ag7433 (927 D(S))
06 Oct 14 UTC
Yes, that's the point.

<crickets>

Just as humans with defects are still believed to be humans, the same as society can have defects (people who murder) and still be against murder.
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
BUT!!! I don't care whether or not murder is right or wrong but here is my point:

YOU SAID: Murder is universally seen as morally wrong.
I SAY: That is incorrect because some people are fine with murder.
replace universally with generally and then we'll be fine.
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
prove what i just said wrong
ag7433 (927 D(S))
06 Oct 14 UTC
universally changed to generally. I accept this. nothing is universal when billions of people are involved.

But there is a core moral code that is held by humans. Some humans are defective within the society, but never the majority because the core moral code is by far the majority.
ag7433 (927 D(S))
06 Oct 14 UTC
can you agree to this?
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
good, NOW i can move on to point 2.

Even if 99% of the world believes in one thing does not make them any more right than the 1% When it comes to Opinions. All in all morals are opinions. therefore murder is not right or wrong, it is only an expression of purest hate, which in turn people punish in how they see fit. Take the emotion out and you'll see my point
awgray (664 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
You guys are arguing different points.

Is murder universally held as wrong? No. Some crazies think stabbing people in eye-holes should be acceptable.

Is murder universally held as wrong by human societies and civilization? Yes. At least I can't think of any society that thinks murder (murder being defined as the unlawful killing of a human with malice aforethought).
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
to say with certainty what is right or wrong is simply a reflection of your (or a general core of the world's) views on Morals based on the understanding in the time. One Million years from now we may discover the meaning of life and humanity may scoff at 21st century us. But there is no way to know...

(whirring sounds appear in background)

(*Dr. Who theme*)
TrPrado (461 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
awgray brings up a good point. The real question, then, is does a the "moral code" from the OP apply to individuals, societies, or both?
JamesYanik (548 D)
06 Oct 14 UTC
"Is murder universally held as wrong by human societies and civilization?"

NO!!! Sunni Muslims nowadays have formed several different groups who have been very violent against whomever they wish to be violent against!!! Not so long ago all of Nazi Germany was fine with killing the Jews!

Im sorry i have to leave again but ill respond soon!
ag7433 (927 D(S))
06 Oct 14 UTC
@ JamesYuargueallthetime -- That's point 2?

That?!

99% of the world believe that murder for the sake of murder is wrong, and your point is that murdering for the sake of murdering is not any more right than sticking a shiv in a random dudes eye socket?

This seems to be doubling back onto point #1

....

I was hoping that point #2 would be where you think the source of the moral code you just accepted in point 1.

Is Suicide an Answer?
