Rules Question
I convoyed a unit from Edinburgh to Norway. Russia moved an army from St Petersburg to Norway. The fleet in North Sea doing the convoying was unattacked. I thought and still think that this is a standoff, yet the computer moved the unit into Norway from St. Petersburg. Am I wrong? Can someone give me a reference indicating why? Thanks.

Are variants likely on this site?
Im looking through GoonDip and played the practice 35 player WWIV map and wondered what the scope is to get 1 or 2 variants on here....probably alot of work, but im sure there are personalities here that would help :)

Could you have a look at Italy / Turkey / Russia in this game. http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=17915

There was an awful lot of coordinated moves and very few in game messages. Most of them would have been directed back to me.

Search for User by Name
http://goondip.com/profile.php?userID=220
DCRS is his name on Goondip; I want to see if I can find this user (and other users by name) on this site. Check the only game he is in on goondip.com; he's the only player who hasn't entered moves. I fear he is from 4chan, and has forgotten all about it.

A no-talk account
I would like to create a no-talk account. I would stop using this account (once the last game is over) and create an account where I would join normal games but would not participate in diplomacy. The point would be to see how well I do and find out wether it is the skill of diplomacy or the skill of knowing where to move without any talk that makes you win.

Once again, it requires a constant sample size. The brithday equation isn't perfect unless you restrict the draws from including leap babies.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Dec 09 UTC
By the way, the last is also the odds of drawing any specific card from a fresh deck.
dave bishop (4694 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Sorry, I meant this.
20 decks of cards, one random card drawn from each deck.
What are the chances that exactly one pair (no more or less) comes up?
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Dec 09 UTC
I built a spreadsheet that will compute the odds for a sample size of up to 1500 and as many pulls as you want if anyone is interested.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Ah. I would have to research that equation a bit more and it's now 12:30 in the morning.
dave bishop (4694 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
OK, no problem
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Dec 09 UTC
So, only one pair (not two or more different pairs and not three or more of the same card). That would be one hell of an equation...
dave bishop (4694 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Yeah I was thinking... I could do it if the chances of the card being the same didn't keep changing each time one was taken using another equation, but I'd have to somehow combine your equation with mine to solve it...
spyman (424 D(G))
31 Dec 09 UTC
I'll take a look at that spreadsheet Draugnar. Would you mind emailing it to me. My email is in my profile. I have been meaning to learn some more about probability - its just a matter finding some time. Cheers.
dave bishop (4694 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
spyman, solve my problem?
spyman (424 D(G))
31 Dec 09 UTC
@dave_bishop I know very little about probability. I only solved the birthday problem because I googled it.
I'll take a look at your problem though. But I don't think I will solve it in five minutes - as I said I don't know how to. I am not even very good at maths (school was some time ago for me alas).

I have 138 IQ and got a 1580 on my SAT (when they were 1600 not this 2400 bullshit kids have now) and I don't think either were a measurement of intelligence or being clever. I'm pretty fucking dense and retarded sometimes.

just saying all these things ppl asked draugnar are easy statistical problems
even i could solve them, i had harder ones in exams, and i only study business administration
and i have normal intelligence i think, no idea though
once u get the system and understand the formulas in statistics its not that hard
