Game Play Question
If you have one unit moving to “bounce” while you have another unit holding the moving unit what happens?

doesn't work... I found out the hard way
figlesquidge (2131 D)

You can support-hold any unit that does not try to move
Carpysmind (1423 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
OK, then if one unit moves to bump another unit and you follow that with another unit into that provine then would that stop a supported move into that common province?

ie; Pru>War, War>Mos (Mos sup Ukr>War)?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
you can support a hold only if the units is NOT moving, (they can be convoying, supporting a move, supporting a hold, or holding)

your example makes little sense, but
Mos S Liv > War
Liv > War
and War > Ukr (say)
would bounce a str 1 attack on Ukr, and have str 2 into War, thus bouncing in War any str 2 attack (while not displacing Warsaw, because you can't force your own units to retreat)

In your original scenario Carpysmind scenario would create a giant bounce because War is blocking the Mos support by attacking it and making it hold. That is assuming Ukr and Mos are enemy units.

@ora . . .? Look at a map: Ger; Pru>War, War>Mos and RUS; Mos sup Ukr>War. What happens?
figlesquidge (2131 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Actually, Ukraine will move to Warsaw, as you cant disrupt support against yourself.
Darth (137 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
@Carp

I just said this but you may not have noticed. If Pru>War and War> Mos with Mos sup Ukr > War then War >Mos prevents Mos from supporting Ukr>War. War goes back to War from Mos because it bounced so Pru>War bounces along with Ukr>War
orathaic (1009 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
no. Warsaw > moscow doesn't prevent Moscow from supporting Ukr > warsaw.
Darth (137 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Just remembered that rule. Thank you for pointing it out.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
in that case Ukr takes warsaw. However if Germany orders.
Sil S Pru > War
War > Mos

while russia orders
Mos S Ukr > Mos
then you have a 1v1 bounce in moscow (Warsaw versus Moscow)
and a 2v2 bounce in warsaw (Ukraine and Moscow versus Prussa and Silesia)
Carpysmind (1423 D)

ok, what if TUR has an army in Sev, GER has an army in War, and RUS has an army in Ukr and Mos; what does GER and TUR have to do (if anything) to insure a ‘bounce’? 1) Sev and War attack the same unit (Mos or Ukr) 2) Sev and War attack opposing units (Mos and Ukr) or 3) Sev support War>Mos?

I can't stress how much help JDip is for setting up these hypothetical scenarios and trying them out. It conforms to the DATC and I use it all the time for adjudication of live games. It prevents any question of the "judge" showing partiality to himself (me) or a "friend".

Rules Question
I convoyed a unit from Edinburgh to Norway. Russia moved an army from St Petersburg to Norway. The fleet in North Sea doing the convoying was unattacked. I thought and still think that this is a standoff, yet the computer moved the unit into Norway from St. Petersburg. Am I wrong? Can someone give me a reference indicating why? Thanks.

Could you have a look at Italy / Turkey / Russia in this game. http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=17915

There was an awful lot of coordinated moves and very few in game messages. Most of them would have been directed back to me.

DCRS is his name on Goondip; I want to see if I can find this user (and other users by name) on this site. Check the only game he is in on goondip.com; he's the only player who hasn't entered moves. I fear he is from 4chan, and has forgotten all about it.

A no-talk account
I would like to create a no-talk account. I would stop using this account (once the last game is over) and create an account where I would join normal games but would not participate in diplomacy. The point would be to see how well I do and find out wether it is the skill of diplomacy or the skill of knowing where to move without any talk that makes you win.
