What is this? (Ancient Med map)

This is probably gonna sound stupid but, what is that L shaped, light blue thing on the Ancient Med map? It can't be just my PC since it appears on my laptop as well.

I wanted to say thank you to all the players for this game and especially to Akroma who made it very interesting and entertaining for me. I think we all know that she had a won game here and elected not to take it. For me that is the sign of breaking through the status of a veteran into a higher field of play.

Why do people call Turkey the worst nation to be?

Why? Italy's WAY worse than Turkey to draw, if France goes all crazy and attack you from the start, good luck. If you try to lepanto, almost every Turkish player has seen that, and If you ally with Austria, they hardly ever trust you and as soon as you start dieing, they dive head first at you. Is there anybody here who actually LIKES to play Italy?

How many CDs are enough?

Personally, I think two CDs within the first 2 years, or 2 or more later on when one of the CDs is, for example, the largest power on the board.

What happens if?

If two armies try to enter an empty territory with equal support, they bounce. What happens to the occupying army if two armies try to enter an occupied territory, each having the same support, and the occupying army has no support at all?

What is the benchmark for "ok" nowadays?

I think 1/3 wins and 2/3rds losses is "OK", but that is just my opinion. Of course, we'd have to look at what percentage of games are draws and how many players were in those draws to get a more accurate feel. I'm just running from the gut that if I can be in the winning group 2 to 3 of 7 games and I had fun along the way, it was worth it.

Ghost could probably pool out some detailed metrics about this, but if we use the League scoring system where 12

are awarded per game, this would give an average per-game score of 1.7 - so if we take 10 games for example, the average will be 17, achievable through two 3-way and three 4-way draws. (2x4+3x4). Solos do make a difference.

Trying to compute that off my draws, some being three, others, four, and one or two five, would be difficult. also, that assumes only 7 player variants. Ancient Med is 5 and World Map is huge, getting less than 1 point per game.

Not sure if a benchmark for "okay" can exist. If it does, to my mind it should be 110+ on the GRating (110 being the average score for active players)

How about "okay" is benchmarked as a 2*solos + draws percentage of >=50% and ownership of a nice hat.

That's the main reason Ghost uses it (in that it puts him above average - I'm not sure he'd go to the whole trouble of creating a ratings system just in order to put you above average)

Yes. You can also give yourself 60 bonus points for being able to integrate sec(x)dx

Heh, I can't integrate - we learn that next year.
At the moment we have to make up a function, and hope that it's derivative is equal to the previous function, thus it must be the anti-derivative, and then can call it an integral by the FTC. Still, guess that's gotta count for something

Oh Sec is a nice Integral though. I remember some really clever substitution and then the derivative shows up inside the formula. Practically integrating itself right there! :D
Oh and Figle, i guess you might be able to guess what the integral would look like. Think: sec = 1/cos. And you probably know about integrating 1/x ?

Hehe, sqrg yes I know my standard integrals, but what *is* integration.
Differentiation has quite a simple definition as the limit of gradient, but the definition of an integral is rather more complex.

Well in the same loose definition integration would be the limit of some function that will fill the area under the function.
Usually this is with sums of rectangles etc, but such a defintion is in the same sense "quite simple".
I totally agree however, that integrals get insanely more complex to handle :P But then again: you don't need elaborate formulas for a challenging problem.

Erm, what I meant is that

f'(x) := lim h->0 [ f(x+h) - f(x) ] / h
(when this exists)

There are a number of different definitions of the integral (most commonly the Riemann intergral you describe) but until one can provide justification for such things then you don't know how to use them.

England should not open to the English Channel in gunboat

As France, considering I was thoroughly screwed because Germany and Italy moved unrelentingly against me, I decided to take England down with me. And this decision came totally because England opened to EC in gunboat.

How to get more D's?

I am new to webdiplomacy, and I am playing quite a few games at the same time. The problem is that I do not feel that the games are moving fast enough, and I have only 1

to play - meaning I am not able to join any more games.

Is there a way to borrow D's? Or even to play without D's?

Newbie's Game Want To Join?

I just set up a less then 15 game experience level game. Which is password protected. This done so that I may check the accout name and see how many games you have finished. 2 ways to join. 1) click on my username and leave a message. 2) leave a reply. If you fit the bill I will send you the password. 2 days to join game and 1 day phases. Also all messaging is on. Please only join if you want to play to the end. Even in defeat we learn.
