I've been thinking about the scoring.
I don't like PPSC and I don't think that WTA quite represents how I feel about the game.
I propose (for the sake of argument) a system where the points are divided as follows
1st place 60%
2nd place 14%
3rd place 11%
4th place 8%
5th place 5%
6th place 2%
7th place 0
All members of an n-way draw would share the points from the first n places and if lower placings were tied (by two players ending on the same number of scs or being eliminated in the same season) they would share the points for those placings.
This would mean that
i) Winning is better than any draw
ii) Any draw is better than coming second
iii) Everyone always has something to play for (it's better to come 5th than 6th, for example)

I like it. What happens in the case of CDs, though?

Let anyone who wants take the position over for free (in which case they get any victory points and the original player gets nothing) but if nobody does then the units just hold until they are eliminated or the game is ended and the position is calculated normally.

I'd say CDs get no points and their points get added to the pool divided up by the other positions. Essentially, all CDs are 7th place.

a.bxc, what about the defeated players? Would they get points if they arent the last one to get defeated (come in 6th)?
or would they all get nothing? But then where would the leftover points go...

That's another approach - change the percents into fractions out of whatever (with 3 CDs there would be 93 scoring points so make them all out of 93 rather than out of 100). Personally I don't really see the need to hammer CDs but I understand that not everyone is so relaxed about the weasel faced cowards.

I think that honestly defeated players (who keep playing to the end) should certainly get the points depending on when they were knocked out (so the third player to get knocked out would come fifth) but there is some discussion as to whether a CD player would get points at all.

6th place is 6th place, even if defeated. So the balls to the wall player who tries to move up with a risky move still deserves his pay out for the position. Only the CDs would get punished. But I think even 7th place deserves a small 1% return. I mean there can be a win with all 7 players still in the game. Why not give him a little something for having the guts to stick it out and not go CD.

1,3,5,7,10,14,... would work in that case.

How about just taking the full pot and then divide 50% of it as you would do in WTA and the other 50% as in PPSC? :D

I hate the per supply centre aspect of per supply centre - it gives no credit to fighting manfully to an elimination.

True, but what is the criterium you use to determine the 1st trough 7th place?

The first player to be eliminated comes 7th, the next comes 6th and so on. Of the players surviving at the end either they all draw (and share the remaining points) or they are ordered by number of supply centres held.

I like this new idea because an 18 to 16 means the second place finisher gets the same as if it were 18 to 9 and 7. It discourages the "help the other guy win and rack up SCs for points" attitude predominate in PPSC.

Yea allright, just feeding the discussion here. If you let the SC count have some influence anyways, doing the 50% thing would be easier implemented i guess.

I really like your system though. Just figure a way to give a fair ordering then :D

Order of elimination the SCs seems fair to me. Ties get the average of their two or three positions.

I like the idea that someone that is eliminated without going CD would get something. Gives players another reason to not go CD when things turn really ugly.

Not sure about order of elimination, because it encourages you to sell your soul to the devil for 4th place rather than fight to keep the game going and risk ending in 7th...

Eh, CD'ers should not be given their points back. That would be an incentive not to CD and not to join games just to quit if you don't like the country you got.

But all in all, I really like this new idea. Shall we make a finalized version and present it to the mods?
