Here we go, underdog :P. As a side note can we all play the game to win the tourney, or come in as high a place as possible? It changes the dynamic of the games when people are playing for different reasons - some for ghost rating, some for points, etc.

you guys should just play to win in tournies, Everything else can wait.

if you play just to win in the tourny, then i am not sure if it could be called real Diplomacy. In real Diplomacy, you try to keep the other guys from winning. If you are playing to only win the tourney, it is like a PPSC game (which would be fine if it was actualyly MADE a PSSC tounrey). You guys can play like that, but i am goingi to play as I usually play Diplomacy, trying to stop the solo when it comes and getting the best possible outcome for the game itself.

You won't get rich playing these games and who really cares about GR...... I look at it once a month and then get over it
No matter who I'm playing against I want to win, my stats show that most of the time I don't but I still enter a game with the same intent, who knows one day I'll surprise you all :-)

This happens to be a PPSC Tourny.

Sometimes playing to win the tourney means playing to stop the solo (especially in the last game or two if you're near the top in points).

Indeed, sometimes it does mean playing to stop the solo. But that comes in very rare circumstances and wasn't what I was talking about earlier. And it's not about stopping the solo, it's about stopping the other guy from gaining SCs. Doesn't matter if he solos, it's about him having 18 SCs at the end of the game ;). And to mirror to PPSC nature of the tourney, can we have the games PPSC too just for consistency?

And in that case Fortress, why join a tourney if you don't play for the overall win but just the individual ones? It defeats the purpose, there might as well not even be a tourney then and just individual games that Nigee sets up ;)

And, I never said that playing to win meant not stopping the solo, I don't know where fortress got that.

oh, i am playing to win the tournament, it is just not my only goal. To be honest, I no longer care about points and ghost rating as much as i used to, and play simply to enjoy the game. I don't enjoy the game when people are fine with letting another person solo just because they will leave his centers alone (assuming that the player in question has the means to stop the solo)

I'm frankly sick of GR to be honest. Though it does matter, it depends on who you play...not really the best way to "move up the ladder" So I joined this damn thing. :)
