The Roads NOT Taken--If You Weren't Doing What You Are Right Now...?
Simple question--

If you weren't doing or majoring in whatever it is your profession or major is now, what wold you have chosen? What was that 2nd Road that seemed so tantalizing, maybe...but you took Road #1 instead, (bonus points for--why?) :)

Do you need or not need me, then? I picked up some (D), so I can play if needed, but if you already have seven I'm also happy to observe.

CS, with ghug joining, we're seven now.

1. Vaftrudner
2. ulytau
3. NoFog
4. 2WL
5. Poozer
6. Tom Bombadil
7. ghug

But if someone doesn't show up to fill his spot, I would appreciate subs.

Would anyone object to public discussion as this game goes on? Not from players, naturally, but we could keep a thread going and bump it after every turn processes. Its an excellent idea for a game and should be fairly entertaining for spectators.

I'm all for discussing as long as the players aren't involved. Do the mods have an opinion on this?
Poozer (962 D)
02 May 12 UTC
Discussion is fine with me.

Honestly after 1902, I imagine this game will look reasonably normal.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 May 12 UTC
Bad idea... Those discussions *will* influence the course of the game.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
02 May 12 UTC
Draugnar, you're probably right. OK, no discussions. Save your comments for the EOG.

Sorry, 2WL, but I didn't want you all to have a ruined game or even perceived ruined because someone suggested some bizarre genius move and someone else used it. You'd never know if the pleyer who used it had already thought of it or not and that just destroys the integrity of the game.
Poozer (962 D)
02 May 12 UTC
How about there is just discussion of the S01 moves, and no discussion past that... they will be what's funny.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
02 May 12 UTC
We can still save all that discussion until after the game.
NoFog (9073 D)

I looked at the stats: under the "not top 10" opening moves, there are some combinations that aren't that abnormal (e.g. two common moves plus one senseless support move instead of a hold)

But my first interpretation of the idea of this "game setting" was to make opening moves that really look abnormal. With all 3 (or 4) units.

So maybe some clarification is needed...
NoFog (9073 D)

Let's all just freak out on the board ;-)
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
02 May 12 UTC
NoFog, you don't HAVE to do the craziest moves you can think of. I offered Idiot points as an incentive so that people don't automatically choose move 11 or 12 or something. But there's no requirement. It's just too difficult to pinpoint what a "crazy move" is in terms that makes for strict guidelines. I'm just hoping that the loose and comedic atmosphere will make people more likely to do something inspired.
Welcome to gunboat, the show where the openings are made up and the points don't matter!

Vaftrudner (2533 D)

Yes, I'm the patron saint of scrounging.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 May 12 UTC
You do know that to be a saint, you must have died, which means you aren't immortal but, in fact, an already dead mortal.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 May 12 UTC
At least you didn't deny my demigod status. I'm Draugnar, Loki and Thor's long lost brother.

P.S. I'm am so pumped for Friday. It's Star Wars day *and* "The Avengers" US release date.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
02 May 12 UTC
You're referring to Christianity, I'm not. In my church, to be a saint, all you really need to do is leech a lot.

And no, I'm not going to deny your demigod status. It's number three of our ten commandments, "Never fuck with your webmaster".
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 May 12 UTC
LOL! Well, I had never heard of a "patron saint" outside of christianity. Now the Patrón saint of tequila... Margaritaville baby! And Cinco de Mayo being Saturday... Yumm, tequila and margaritas...

Wait... Huh? What was I talking about again?
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
02 May 12 UTC
Ah, America. Cinco de Mayo and Star Wars Day, two important traditions we don't have here in Sweden.

But at least we have Midsummer's Eve, where we all dance around a leafy phallus and change herring into vomit via the process of ungodly drinking. Yay for drunk drivers and outdoors unconsciousness!
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 May 12 UTC
Well, had it not been for the battle at Puebla and the Mexican army, severely outnumbered and outskilled, crushing the superior French army, the US Civil War may have gone much different as Napolean III would have been able to continue supplying the Confederate States. So we Americans owe our unified and strong nation to the Mexicans. One more reason we should make it easier for Mexicans to come here and make a life for themselves if they so desire.

We are having far too many cheating accusations on the forum. It would be nice if it was stated clearly and visibly that it should not happen.

Best Webdip Chess Player?
I think it would be interesting to find out who the best chess player on webdip is and see if there is any correlation between that and their GR. Though they would likely be very good at tactics, I know a lot of people who are good at chess and socially awkward, which I would think would make them less likely to be able to effectively negotiate.

What are your thoughts? Would anyone be interested in setting up some type of chess tournament?

There is no strategy for Austria
When Turkey, Italy and Russia attack you there is no strategy to survive. I would even say that if two of the three attack you and there is no third person who tries to ally with you, you just die. Does anyone have a successful history with Austria? its my least favorite starting point because there is basically no hope for a win
