Mistake in adjudication
Hey, In game #153265(Pax Europa -2) there was a wrong adjudication. Fleet Denmark supported Fleet north sea to Skag, Fleet Skag went to Denmark. BUT a unit can't break a supported move to it's area.
Thanks, Sun_Tzu

Don, I always pronounced that one as "God Fadda"
Draugnar (0 DX)

Interesting, Toby. I had always put the accent on the second syllable of your last name in my head.
Toby Bartels (361 D)
24 Nov 09 UTC
@ Draugnar

So do most telemarketers. It has been an effective screening method.

‘May I please speak to Toby BAR-tels?’ ‘Yes, this is Toby.’

‘May I please speak to Toby Bar-TELS?’ ‘I'm afraid that Toby has passed away.’
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 Nov 09 UTC
LOL! Toby +1! By the way, with the 'b' and 'n' next to each other on the keyboard, some typings of Tony instead of Toby could be simple typos. I had to go correct your name when I noticed it said Tony even though I was thinking Toby when I typed it.

I've never heard anyone try to pronounce mine yet...
Bowm'-hoi-yur, with the "u" after the "y" making a schwa. It's German.
Acosmist (0 DX)

You can't do umlauts?
Toby Bartels (361 D)

Tree tusks?
baumhaeuer (245 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
@ Acosmist
I can, but I did not know it at the time I created the username. I'm not particularly electronically inclined.
Also, a-koss'-miss, with the "a" as in "and".
@Toby
That's "tree-cutter" from late 1400's german.
Also, I had always thought your last name was accented on the first syllable...
lifein2x3 (168 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
Mine's "Life in 2 by 3" as in the aspect ratio of a 35mm film frame. Photography's my day job, so it made sense at the time.
denis (864 D)

Acosmist I pronounce your name Acomist out of bad habit
zckls04 (100 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
@ lifein2x3
I'm going to rename myself to lifein4x5.....

This name's just my university login (from 12 years ago). In over a decade I've never bothered to think of anything new. I rule at idleness.
Acosmist (0 DX)
25 Nov 09 UTC
Herr Baumhaeuer:

The "a" is like the "a" in "atheist," which makes for a nice parallelism. I'm not sure if you mistyped the last syllable, as there's an "-ist" ending and thus a "t" sound at the back end.

@zckls04: You're a man after my own heart. I <3 large format. When I can shoot it.
zckls04 (100 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
I know, it's such a pain. But it's so demoralizing- every time I take a great shot with one of my other cameras I can't help but think "that's great- imagine what it would look like as a 4x5 slide". Even after scanning it it just looks so much nicer than digital.
lifein2x3 (168 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
Ah. I lean more toward B&W printing; I've gotten some amazing 16x20s out of large format negatives.
zckls04 (100 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
I do a bit of both but I'm really just a beginner:

http://viveier.com/Other/Large-Format-Film-Photography/9577618_bTSYh

The bridge shot looks fabulous blown up. The car is pretty good as well, although the contrast is a bit wonky on that scan.
Xapi (194 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
" @Xapi - in Germany, they would likely pronounce it Ksapee. They always use the ks for x, even at the start of a word. "

ksapee is acceptable too.

"@ Xapi

I always pronounce ‘pizza’ like ‘peetsa’, so should I pronounce your name ‘tsapee’ or ‘sapeet’? "

Neither :P

"Actually, I've been pronouncing it ‘SHA-pee’, as if it were Aztec. I'm not sure why."

Well, the nickname comes from my name, Xavier. There's a pretty famous spanish football player called Xavier, nicknamed "Xavi", and that is pronounced "Sha-bee".

Some coworkers call me "Sha-bee", because we met playing football, so when I told them my name + football, you know. (it's a big company, I hadn't met most of them until I was invited to play).
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
Ivo, pronounced as written, no as AIVO. I believe it's the same in Spanish?
Xapi (194 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
Yep.

For English speakers, that would probably be eevo.
LanGaidin (1509 D)
25 Nov 09 UTC
LanGaidin as in LandGuyDin, but without the "d" in land.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Nov 09 UTC
Hey Ivo, is the second name stressed on the first or second syllable. I.e. EEvanov. or iVANov? And is it a long e or a short i at the beginning of your last name? Just want to be saying it right in my head.
JECE (1248 D)
26 Nov 09 UTC
If its Spanish its eevahnOV. (that's a long e)
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
26 Nov 09 UTC
It's a short 'e', stressed, strangely enough, on the last syllable (ivaNOV), as Jece suggested.
JesusPetry (258 D)
26 Nov 09 UTC
So I was pronouncing it right (in my head).
denis (864 D)

Иво is short for Иван
and last name Иванов?
Sorry if you don't read Cyrillic but am I pronouncing it right?
denis (864 D)

3 more needed!
Toby Bartels (361 D)
26 Nov 09 UTC
@ Baumhäuer

Ah, now I find ‘hauen’ in my dictionary! So your name is cognate to English ‘boom hewer’ (seriously that will help me to remember it).

@ Иво Иванов

I am terrible at figuring out where the stress goes in Slavic languages. So thanks for telling me!

@ Xapi

So how do ~you~ pronounce ‘pizza’? PEE-za?
baumhaeuer (245 D)
26 Nov 09 UTC
Slightly off-topic: how do you pronounce "multi-account?"
With me, it's " mull'-tee-uh-kownt ," " mull'-tee-uh-kownt'-ing ," and " mull'-tee-uh-kownt'-er ." The "u" in each first syllable is short and the "er" is a syllabic "r".
Toby Bartels (361 D)
26 Nov 09 UTC
There are many dialectal variations in the first syllable of ‘multi’; I'm one of the people who pronounce it the same as ‘malty’ (and that with an unrounded vowel). But your way is perfectly correct too, if that's what you're wondering.
