Unpause Request
Moderators: can you please unpause the following game?
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=10602
We've sent several messages to the final 2 players, with no response. One has only 1 SC left, and the other took over a CD country but hasn't logged in for several days. Thanks!

Waiting for placement
In two different games I opted to wait to place my unit later in the turn and was not given the option between the spring and fall turns. Do I need to do something actively to get this option?

Could we please get a mod to unpause this game? It's been paused for a while and Austria won't vote to unpause.

Problem with my stats
I'm looking at my stats, and it says I'm currently playing a game, but I'm not. I think its counting one of my survives as a game still in progress. Could I get a mod to look at this?

Unpause request.
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=10521

In this game a player that had already been defeated was banned. The game automatically paused and now one of the players (who was clearly not in a position to win) is refusing to unpause and is requesting a draw.

ag I think you have a warped understanding of what the SoW is about... its not like we are training clan warriors to dominate the php dip world in the name of the Foot! (TMNT reference)

its just one way vets can contribute - to help new players learn to play better and to give all of us stiffer competition down the road ;)

All threads are stored in the database, the site just doesn't currently have a facility to show old threads to the user. This pagination is coming.
FAQ - I'd like to have an FAQ thread because i think it would be read and updated much more frequently than the current one, but to keep it usable would require the addition of at least an 'edit' function (so any improvements could be made to the OP) and probably a 'sticky' (so people stop bouncing it up).
I still can't figure out why you just don't use phpBB.

You're already running an instance. Why reinvent the wheel?

this forum is SO lovely. my apologies to those of you dunderheads who think it is not. and when i say "dunderhead" I mean it in the most sarcastic way =)
I think that those who like this forum like it for sentimental reasons or because of the 'ugly duckling' syndrome, or the 'I hate Apple' syndrome. This message board was state of the art about 12 years ago.

The content is great, but a 50 thread limit, no search, no font or HTML capabilities (which I don't mind, but its very rare to see these days), no quoting. I honestly can't find a trait about this board that is GOOD when compared to others.

did you know that if you record the word figlesquidge and then play it backwards at slow speed it says "dunderhead"? Interesting bit of trivia not everyone knows...
figlesquidge (2131 D)

Well, the thing I like about it is yes mainly that it's different, but also the way it stays close and inline. I'm still of the opinion it needs to be improved, but i just feel it should be improved rather than replaced. The search & thread limit issues are (I believe) solved for 0.9, and I'm not sure what I think about the other two elements. Would be nice to have bold & tables, but i think most forums offer far too many options for customisation, and it wrecks the look of the page.

Oh, and there are a few cases of bbcode in here - if you type "I'm a dunderhead " (without the quotation marks, but with the capital I) the script replaces it with a little smilie man running round. You've got to do it exactly like that though, and with nothing else in the post - try it below if you don't believe me...
Which "i" in figlesquidge am I supposed to capitalize? :)
Figlesquidge is a dunderhead :)

I must admit I was half hoping that you lot (members of us on this diagram - http://scruss.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/gullible.png ) would have left that one silent - i thought we might get someone who'd try it.
Now, thread hijacking is almost complete so...
When he was about 4 my brother and I taught our little brother 'gullible' meant 'wanting pudding'. We didn't quite think through just how genius it was until after we'd done it though, when we heard him walk up to his childminder and say "Mandy", for that was her name, "I'm very gullible", for indeed he was.
On most forums, Jacob could now erase his embarrassment

oh the shame! hehe

my dad convinced his sister that hair grew on the inside of her head just as long as it grew on the outside. I thought that one was pretty funny.
LOL, my older brother and I, we were probably 13 and 10 at the time (a maybe alittle older), convinced my younger sister (who was 7) that males gained more testicles as they grew older. They were born with two, but as they aged, they got more....

I didn't find out until years later how she found out... quite embarassing fo rher.

Well, I think the forum's great in it's simplicity. I don't like Edit functions, and frankly all the BBCodes and HTML's and smilies are superfluous and distracting.

The only things that I'd like is pagination, search, and quoting.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
04 Jun 09 UTC
I'm not sure, i think some form of edit would be nice.
Perhaps if you edit a post it could put the corrected post in, with a link to the original post if someone was trying to work out what was said in a possibly manipulated thread?
The most important for me would be pagination, search and locking, although a stickied FAQ would be nice.
I run several phpBB forums on several topics, and one is cut down exactly like Chrispminis likes... no smiles, no extra crap... just text messages. And frankly I'd have to say it's still a superior format. Of course, people still post to usenet, too, and Google's relatively recent concept of a discussion site is about the most primitive thing I've had the misfortune of using in quite awhile (I do some Android G1 programming on the side). So it's not all bad here, I guess. But I think a better forum would simply add to the fun...

If there are going to be forum changes can we please not add all the bells and whistles. No ability to post pictures or images or any "signatures" or emoticons that move or edit functions or font that hurts me or colours that hurt me or flashy lights that hurt me. I'm not an old man I promise, but I'm just not impressed with that shit.

Well title says it all: Metagaming is tolerated but not against rules, yet something should be done but not really or perhaps...
Well what to do when you can prove some people seem to meta-play?

Newb question: end of turn became "Due Now"???
Why do we get a countdown on our clock and then when the minutes are gone, it switches to "Due Now" instead of resolving the turn?
We have one player who is absent (from more than one game)...
thanks

anyone interested in an active game? (not a live game)
in an active game, players are actually active. as in people check periodically for updates, rather than logging in twice a week. it's not a live game where everyone is on the same time, but an active, no-one-is-CD-game that moves on quickly because people actually finalizes.
