The Most Evil American? (And Most Evil Brit Too, Why Not?)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-macaray/the-most-evil-american-in-history-wasnt-even-a-politician_b_6385188.html?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000592 The article's choice? J. Edgar Hoover...and that's not a bad pick...nor are Andrew Jackson for the Democrats, or Richard Nixon for the Republicans. So--Most Evil American...and why not, Most Evil Brit? (PLEASE NOT DUBYA BUSH *OR* OBAMA...let's avoid that partisan cliche and allow history more time to judge both, eh?)

Is Coffee for Closers?
For those of you unfamiliar, the statement comes from a scene in Glengary Glen Ross: http://tinyurl.com/bkyyzlb . Basically it's about how if you want to do something, do it, and about not feeling entitled. I also recently read an article on Cracked which I will link here: http://bit.ly/1epy3r8 . So, how do you guys feel about the message of the speech and the article? Agree? Disagree? Kittens over Mittens? Please discuss.

I'll take on the GM role alone initially but I would love to have a co-GM if anyone is interested in that.

@ JamesYanik: "Look at France, they were doing pretty poorly but then they go 75% nuclear and their economy is on the upturn"

Yeah, um, just to straighten your facts on this point, France took the decision to make nuclear power their main electricity strategy in 1974 - and most of the major plants were in operation by the mid 1980s. It's not a recent policy decision and certainly can't be directly tied to any very recent changes in France's economy.

jeff kuta, ssorenn and uclabb, i have not had any real preferences for the elections that i have been alive in, Hillary Clinton seemed like a decent candidate and I think she is a good option. Otherwise there has never been a 'your guy' as i have heard mentioned 100s of times in this thread. Jeff Kuta in specific, I understand, but sometimes the other options just dont have any quality. I think it is as much my right to vote as it is not to vote. Not endorsing something I don't support should be an accepted option
JamesYanik (548 D)

Jamiet99uk That is what i refering to, post WWII they were in shambles up until they went Nuclear. I never said it was recent...
JamesYanik (548 D)

But I do believe Nuclear power has a good place in our future

@ JamesYanik: "post WWII they were in shambles"

Um, WHAT? You do realise that during WWII France was invaded and occupied by Nazi Germany, and that in 1944 much of WWII was waged over France's terriority, right? That's going to have some impact on France's economic performance. You're a fool if you think that France's domestic electricity generation policy was the main influence on France's economy in the immediate post-WWII situation.
JamesYanik (548 D)

And i think votes should be earned. not a 50-50 chance. If you didnt do well convincing me you were ready to serve this country then you can forget my ballot

Otherwise, French healthcare is worth expanding around the world.

The French pay 50% to the state. The health care better be good. All the rich are leaving
JamesYanik (548 D)

ive been to both actually. over the summer i went on a school sponsored trip to Switzerland, England, France, Italy, Holland, Greece, Turkey, and a Mediterranean Cruise. It was amazing but youre right the French crepes aren't the best, the best I had were in Mykonos. But in Holland, for breakfast: the best oranges ever. I ate at least a dozen in the first hour of my time there!
JamesYanik (548 D)
03 Jan 15 UTC
back to the original point: Nuclear Crepes, can they be made?
ssorenn (0 DX)

If you're ever in Amsterdam, two blocks from Anne Franks house is a place called the pancake bakery. Do yourself a favor and check out the crepes there.

The French pay more than 50%. I've heard upwards of 80%. For a regular citizen, it pays dividends, and they are doing just fine whether the rich portion of the population is leaving or not. The healthcare is better than it is in the United States and it's also free. I don't see a downside to that.

The best oranges are in East Asia.

No, you don't seem to get it, as that upper one percent leave, more of the burden falls on the less fortunate. Again you show how little you know.

Holy shit i just saw this; Jamiet you dumbass, WWII happened, France was in distress. after WWII they weren't well off anyways. Once they went nuclear it helped... what are you even arguing??? Nuclear power was 30 years after WWII bro, it took them a while to get back on their feet and nuclear power helped!!!

I am well aware of that, ssorenn. My entire point is that we could easily implement free healthcare and good free healthcare in most nations around the world without having to pay 50% or anything remotely near that. We might have to pay a few dollars extra each month, but when someone has to get anything from an X-Ray to a massive operation, it's affordable.
JamesYanik (548 D)
03 Jan 15 UTC
bo_sox48 i wonder what the exact amounts would be... i dont think it would be just a few dollars a month though
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

With 350 million people, it wouldn't be anything drastic. Even if the number was higher, it would come into place so gradually that it really wouldn't have any major effect on the individual other than cheaper and eventually free healthcare.

You're asking *me* what I'm arguing? You proclaimed French nuclear power as if it was a policy decision made in recent years. I pointed out it wasn't. *You* were the one who then responded by dribbling about WWII. I hadn't mentioned WWII until you did.

What are *you* arguing? Did French nuclear power drag them out of a post-WWII economic depression? Not really. Has France's economy boomed in the last few years due to increased investment in nuclear? Not really.

What is *your* point?
But what about muffins. Personally I love muffins, they are scrumptious versatile and are as close to a cupcake you can come while still being healthy. In fact muffins are a lot like society. A muffin comes in all shapes and sizes, and are delicious. However, at the end of the day, a muffin is a bit dissapointing. Everyone really wants to have a cupcake, the cupcake is a utopia, but guess what you can't have the cupcake, you have to work for it. So guess what, sit down and eat your goddam muffin, LAWRENCE! AND DON'T YOU DARE GET ME STARTED ON GREEN BEANS!

Sorry, where were we, oh yes, Australia.

With a reputedly relatively unhealthy population and a notoriously inefficient medical system as a starting base, one would expect an American adoption of European style free at the point of use healthcare to be a painfully expensive affair. Although it is probably a good idea, a cheap idea it ain't.

Race and Ethnicity
Recently, I have been filling out lots of forms. During this process, I have discovered a rather disturbing fact. Apparently, I do not have an ethnicity, nor even a race sometimes. In these forms many ethnicities are listed, from Aleut to Vietnamese. But while many small islands or island groups are present, I can't find Eastern European, or even Caucasian! Why is it that these are not considered of equal value to list as Samoan, or Guamanian?

A Thing - 2nd Edition
Hi again!

Domino's Pizza here in Japan is incredibly expensive. A single large pizza from Domino's is nearly 4,000 yen, which is about $35 in the US. Japan has very few obese people. Japan has almost zero instances of bloating before bedtime. I have only seen one person the size of a sumo wrestler (my dad) since arriving in a city of 30 million people. Coincidence, right?
