No, but it is fair to say that, on average 60 sandwiches are eaten every second. The original stat, when axtrapolated, came out to 5 times the once every 98 mintues. So divinding your actual extrapolation (13.3 million sandwiches per day as there is a populace of 6.65 million in Mass or 150 sandwiches per second) by 5, you get 30 sandwichies out of 6.65 million people every second or 2.6 million sandwiches consumed a day or 2 out of every 5 people on average will eat a sandwich today. Doesn't seem quite so extreme when put into the *actual* projected number presented in the story.

The extrapolation assumed that the sample size was 5 times larger than the average. Of course, your original equation was wrong on your sandwhich number as 13.3 million sandwhiches (twice Mass' population) is only 150 per second, so the adjustment of dividing that by 5 assuming your are 5 times more likely to eat a sandwhich and 10 times mor elikely to eat 2 than the average person really did bring it to a reasonable projection. Wouldn't you say?

First line should have said 30 sandwhiches per second. I initially took your 300 per at your word before I did the math in Exfel and realized you had doubled the actual projection based on your 2 per person per day assumption.

No - but mostly only because your sample size is several orders of magnitude smaller than the one I used. If 12,000 abgemachts each ate two sandwiches a day for 9 years, then I would be fairly comfortable saying that the number of sandwiches eaten in Massachusetts in an average second would be measured in the hundreds, absent any evidence that abgemachts eat sandwiches at a rate that varies substantially from the typical Massachusettsian.

There was an incident in the phoenix area last month of pitbulls killing a 2 yr old. My step daughter happened to know the dogs in question, and here response was "oh my god those dogs were so sweet! I can't believe they did that"

These were not trained killers. They were sweet little house pets who tore up a 2 year old girl. Remember yesterday when we were agreeing about animals that kill for sport? Pitbulls count. And their target is more often than any other breed, human babies. So Fuck pitbulls. They are the cockroaches of the canine species. They won't be missed.

@phil - I can tell you from experience you are wrong about the Chihuahua. They are nasty little fucks and, yes, they could kill a small child. So can a ferret (they've been known to kill babies) and my dachshunds which are bred for and capable of killing badgers, something you or I couldn't do with our barehands and we could kill a child with ease.

Human children also torture dogs for sport. There are plenty of videos of such things online. As dangerous as pitbulls are, they aren't nearly as dangerous as children are to animals. Theresponse is always "oh, but they're kids, they don't know any better". Nothing ever happens. At least in the pit bulls case there is accountability, even though the pit bulls have no control over the fact that they were specifically bred to be dangerous animals.

Putin - for once I agree with you. chihuahuas can have a bit of personality - tend to bond to a single person/family and can be nippy at people. but with all animals, you raise them right, you take the necessary precautions when people are around and you avoid problems by treating animals like animals, not stuffed toys.

We spend a lot of time in the shelter, and yes, full of pits, rotts, chihuahua not as much but there...and all of them licking your hand through the cages....really pathetic.
