@ulytau, yes Paul Kennedy agrees with you:

"On top of this came the purges. The decapitation of the Red Army -- 90% of all the generals and 80% of all colonels suffered in Stalin's manic drive - not only had the overall effect of wiping out Tukhachevsky and the 'modern warfare' enthusiasts, by eliminating those who studied German methods and British theories, the purges left the army in the hands of such politically safe but intellectually retarded figures such as Voroshilov and Kuluk."

He's saying something about how Russia wasn't formed until people left Rome and founded it, I think. Russia started based off the north end of Black Sea, Rome expanded there so... I have no idea.

Text books are sanitized by the education system and have been shown to have factual errors through out, especially history texts. Try reading something from a public library and get the real history.

Hey bro, your textbook is wrong, sorry to tell you. Russia coexisted with Rome, they existed next to each other for 600 years.

Tukhachevsky, the same guy who emphasised offense, resulting in a doctrine that got millions of Soviet soldiers captured in 1942-42.

Spyman, I'm not a expert on this topic, I've just read a few books.

What does he mean by Russia? Russian civilisation is generally thought to have originated from Kiev, or does he mean Novgorod?
spyman (424 D(G))

fuzzy Rome certainly did not rule Russia. The Rhine was pretty much the northern continental border.
Iceray, I assume fuzzy is referring to the territory which became Russia, not the actual nation-state.
fuzzy, look for a map which shows that Rome ruled Russia and post a link. I guarantee you will not find one.
fuzzyhartle1 (100 D)

it wasnt called russia at the time until novgrod was formed
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
18 Feb 11 UTC
So hey, do me a favor look at the founding date on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia
and the collapse date on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_rome

Then go read
http://russia.rin.ru/guide_e/2/1.html

The Russian Federation was founded in 862 AD. The nation of Russia is actually called The Russian Federation. There is no "Russia"

I'm still trying to figure out his post on the last page...

@fuzzy - There are a number of people on this site who live, eat, and breath history and mathematics and religion and philosophy. Instead of arguin your "9th grade" education and text books must be right, consider learning from them. They have much to teach if you'll just listen.

I've linked 2 maps of Rome.

At most, the Romans held a little of the Caucasus. Also, Kiev was created after the fall of the Western Roman empire.

at that time they ruled in to formrf roman teritories

I linked an outside source as well as Wikipedia, don't tell me that website is bullshit too just because you want to have faith in your failure of a textbook.

"Interpreter? " Here I am.

"acualy" = adverb derived from Manichaeist called Acuas, reffers to some inherent dichotomy in the statement that is to follow in the sentence

"your wrong russia" = obviously Byzantine Empire because Constantinople was Second Rome while Moscow was Third Rome and 3>2 therefore Greeks suck and Russians ftw!

"romean colapse" = there was this Romani NGO called Romea so maybe it went bust recently?

No need to thank me, I do it for all mankind.
largeham (149 D)

What textbook is it?
spyman (424 D(G))
18 Feb 11 UTC
Actually the Byzantine Empire at its peak did have a city which today is part of the Ukraine It was known as Theodosia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feodosiya

Here is a map which shows this:

Help Needed with an Application of sorts
A class I want to take next fall with a very distinguised professor (Jared Diamond) has an application as a prerequisite to enrolling. I have to write a one-page paper about myself and my interests. I'm not the most humble person in the world but for some reason I'm bad at bragging in this sort of context. Any tips from the webdip community?

Ended up dropping off webdip a week
...not that anyone necessarily noticed :) Anyway, since I'm not playing all that much diplomacy as of late (school), and no games at the moment, what does that say about my identity on this forum, or legitimacy to be here? PS I watched my first Star Trek TNG episode. The one with the Ferengi and the planet that was sucking the energy out of the enterprise and the Ferengi ship. "What is Yankee Traders!?"

Trend in debate threads around here:
Has anyone noticed that, ever since Obi started posting his "Philosophy Weekly" threads, that there has been a drop in political threads and an increase in philosophy/religion threads, posted not only by him but also by others?

gameID=47604&msgCountryID=7

So I know that playing with two profiles is illegal and wrong, however, I wouldn't mind someone taking over for the players who have ceased playing... ahem China... Anyways feel free to attack me if you wish, but I just hate it when players stop playing. Also if posting this info is illegal, which I don't think it is, than could you peoples tell me if such a thing is illegal.
