Official Announcement
Dear webDippers,
Draugnar and I are proud to announce that we managed to hack the site, ban the current regime and turned some enlightened members into mods.
We are looking into the cases of other previously banned players to see which were banned unjustly. We're not making any major policy changes, but we're ending the previous tyranny.
Enjoy your stay!

2015 MLB Preview and Predictions
It's that time of year again. Buy yourself some peanuts, some crackerjacks...maybe some syringes and performance-enhancing drugs, and get ready for another baseball season! My predictions for the standings, 10 playoff teams, playoff picks, World Series winner and then 10 predictions for the season are below...add your own. :)

The Greatest People in History Tournament
Now that nominations are in, it is time to decide who really was the greatest person form all of History. Will Ghengis Khan rise to conquer the bracket? Will Tolkien or the Beatles be the first Nominees to win two tournaments? Will Aristotle be proved wrong in his prediction that he will win? Or will a Wild Card take the whole tournament? Only one way to find out.

And Prado, you can't assign the 'abolition of feudalism' to Napoleon, who installed his family all over Europe as feudal leaders. French scientists were responsible for French science not Napoleon; he wanted the reflected glory of science - his most direct contribution to archaeology was to loot Egypt and let his soldiers use the fucking Sphinx for target practice. The founding of Germany should be ascribed to Bismarck: I'm fed up with the subsumption of other people's achievements into the Legend of Napoleon.

This is fun!
TrPrado (461 D)

I actually can. It was kind of a policy he implemented in Europe. There was also the bit about how peasants became soldiers, which was by far a different occupation, and feudalism kind of relies on peasants. And the metric system, which Napoleon standardized across Europe, has been very much instilled into the sciences. And Bismarck established the German STATE, not the German NATION. The terms are very different. Napoleon is responsible for the latter. He gave them a common experience that led them to want to become a single people and throw off their "oppressors."

@ch I can't follow your argument. Enlighten me about what feudalism is (according to you)? Augustus didn't even manage so much as did Napoleon. He even failed tat funding Cauchy or Laplace…

@TP "on what grounds" was directed to Thucy's argument about crediting everything Roman to Augustus.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

thats because your shitty ancestors fought for the conservatives and royalists, j/s
Thucydides (864 D(B))

not that my ancestors are not also english, but still. i never said my ancestors weren't shitty
X3n0n (216 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
@oct I thought you were British. As far as I'm informed, l'Héro never imprisoned the British.
TrPrado (461 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
I believe he means peasants. The soldiers of Napoleon didn't feel imprisoned, they were very devoted to him.
Octavious (2701 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
Whilst the chief Crapaud may well have avoided imprisoning British soldiers (I really have no idea), it was not them I was thinking of but British civilians who happened to be living in France. I have French ancestors too... but don't talk about them for obvious reasons ;).
Octavious (2701 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
They were less devoted when they were freezing to death in Russia, I feel. Maybe they were more fond of him when he let them rape and pillage their way through Spain
Thucydides (864 D(B))
10 Mar 15 UTC
for the record i am not defending the Tyrant Napoléon

however that scarcely makes the side of wellington squeaky clean
X3n0n (216 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
Well, as far as I'm informed no British person was imprisoned for being British under le Grand Empéreur. If your ancestors were imprisoned for committing serious offenses, I have to reject your argument as too weak.
TrPrado (461 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
"They were less devoted when they were freezing to death in Russia, I feel." Then they should blame the Russians. Napoleon did plan to keep them warm, but the Russians ruined that.
Octavious (2701 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
Not at all, but he did hang thieves and rapists in the British army. Makes him quite the progressive, relatively speaking.
TrPrado (461 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
And abolishing feudalism isn't progressive?
TrPrado (461 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
X3n0n, pretty (read: almost entirely) sure Thucy's troll voting, so I doubt you'll get an actual justification.
Octavious (2701 D)
10 Mar 15 UTC
Napoleon took the flames of freedom and pissed all over them. One step forward, two steps back. If a frog hops from an absolute monarchy into a military dictatorship can you really claim he is better off? The only opportunities Napoleon offered the common man was to be shot and killed by new and interesting people from across the world.

UK F2F Game
Would anyone be interested in a F2F game in England, sometime in the weeks following the 23rd of March?

Some of the mods were discussing trying to set one up, but obviously we'd need to know if there's enough interest. Where exactly it would be would depend on what's convenient for the people who express interest (and what locations turn out to be possible).

Extraneous Games
Is there a way to hide or remove games that I have been defeated in under the My Games column? It's kind of annoying to have games that you can't affect show up in my screen, and being reminded of a defeat every time I log on isn't fun, either.

Whatever happened to Draugnar?
Back when I used to be really active on this site, Draugnar was one of the most... distinctive personalities in the forum, despite the fact that I don't think I ever saw his points total at anything other than 100 for any period of time (which made a few people assume he was an entry-level noob, lol). Then he got banned, along with draugnar's_ghost, draugnar's_zombie, etc. Is he back under a different name? Is he gone? Sure he was kind of a douche, but man did he know how to troll.
