I cheated and googled it, I knew it was Hamlet, you misquoted it btw.

"The plan failed when Germany underestimated Russia's production capacity."
Is that right?

yo i would love to meet every one of you so i could prove each one of you wrong and ulike you guys im going to stop commenting on this becuase its a lossing fight you obveusly dont know what happens in new yorks educatoin system and i could go there like the "smartest kid in the world" did at ten and be completly done

That was my translation of fuzzies post.

True, I paraphrased for effect. Just as "the play is the thing..." is a paraphrased excerpt of Hamlet's own "The play's the thing, Wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king."

Let it be known that with all this trolling going on tonight the ghost of rlumley is really annoyed!
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
17 Feb 11 UTC
Also, Germany lost the fight with Russia for a number of reasons, the least of which is the Russian production capabilities. Germany's biggest mistake in WWII on the eastern front was trying to take Stalingrad. Stalin refused to let Germany take it and lost something like 1 million troops to prevent the Germans from taking it. Russia had the people to spare, Germany didn't.

I would imagine any kid who plays Diplomacy is probably pretty smart. And if a kid is in the fifth grade and likes this game, well I say the kid's all right :-)

Wikipedia just told you what I did? Or the lost troops? Sorry, I study WWII religiously.
akilies (861 D)

I did ask a question, it was blatantly ignored :(
fuzzyhartle1 (100 D)
17 Feb 11 UTC
your sutch an idiot russia was able to make more plaes and wepons to replace to one lost and the axis was at there limits and the battle of bursk was another example
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Feb 11 UTC
Well, the NYC education system. That says a lot. NOT! The five burroughs range from world class to abysmal.
akilies (861 D)
17 Feb 11 UTC
rlumley- hard to explain really :)

I study WWII religiously as well, the hamlet quote is what wikipedia told me, I dont need wiki for WWII stuff
fuzzyhartle1 (100 D)
17 Feb 11 UTC
yea so dont tell me what i do and dont know and i think i spelled bursk wrong or something but it is a large tank battle where the germans were to greatly out numbered
spyman (424 D(G))
17 Feb 11 UTC
@iceray0, rlumley is known as ☺ now. Aka smiley.
You remember rlumley don't you? He was a forum regular about a year ago.
akilies (861 D)
17 Feb 11 UTC
you have that right fuzzy, but production was not the only reason, you could attribute more than 100 large reasons for the Nazi's failed conquest of russia
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
17 Feb 11 UTC
Actually, the Russians had fuck all for weapons, they had more troops then they had guns. Gah, I keep saying Russia when it was the Soviet Union. If you REALLY want to get into history with me then get your facts straight.
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Feb 11 UTC
We all remember rlumley AKA smiley. I often wondered why he asked to be allowed to start over. Not that I mind. He's cool enough in both forms.
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
18 Feb 11 UTC
Until late in the war Russia was really poorly equipped, the fact that they won ANY battle is astounding. But then again, when you produce weapons that run in the freezing snow (see guns such as the Nagant M1895) and the Germans didn't you did have a slight edge. Of course, having 10x the German population as military aged people helps too.
fuzzyhartle1 (100 D)
18 Feb 11 UTC
idiot im saying tanks and plane not guns when the us entered is when that happened stalingrad would have fallen in the second battle if not for us if there was a second battle and you have lenningrad which was a falled attack as well
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
18 Feb 11 UTC
I remember a guy with a similar name, wasn't he banned for multi accounts or some shit?
spyman (424 D(G))
18 Feb 11 UTC
I think fuzzy is on the money though. Paul Kennedy, author of the "Rise and Fall of the Great Powers", and renowned historian, would agree with him about Russia's enormous production capacity and seemingly endless resources being key to its success.
I am not saying that this is the only view of course.
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
18 Feb 11 UTC
Again, the Russians didn't have shit for ANYTHING MANUFACTURED until late in the war. I can't understand the entire bottom half of your post, are you trying to say that WWII was won because of America? Because that is flat out untrue.

Help Needed with an Application of sorts
A class I want to take next fall with a very distinguised professor (Jared Diamond) has an application as a prerequisite to enrolling. I have to write a one-page paper about myself and my interests. I'm not the most humble person in the world but for some reason I'm bad at bragging in this sort of context. Any tips from the webdip community?

Ended up dropping off webdip a week
...not that anyone necessarily noticed :) Anyway, since I'm not playing all that much diplomacy as of late (school), and no games at the moment, what does that say about my identity on this forum, or legitimacy to be here? PS I watched my first Star Trek TNG episode. The one with the Ferengi and the planet that was sucking the energy out of the enterprise and the Ferengi ship. "What is Yankee Traders!?"

Trend in debate threads around here:
Has anyone noticed that, ever since Obi started posting his "Philosophy Weekly" threads, that there has been a drop in political threads and an increase in philosophy/religion threads, posted not only by him but also by others?

So I know that playing with two profiles is illegal and wrong, however, I wouldn't mind someone taking over for the players who have ceased playing... ahem China... Anyways feel free to attack me if you wish, but I just hate it when players stop playing. Also if posting this info is illegal, which I don't think it is, than could you peoples tell me if such a thing is illegal.
