Official Announcement
Dear webDippers,
Draugnar and I are proud to announce that we managed to hack the site, ban the current regime and turned some enlightened members into mods.
We are looking into the cases of other previously banned players to see which were banned unjustly. We're not making any major policy changes, but we're ending the previous tyranny.
Enjoy your stay!

2015 MLB Preview and Predictions
It's that time of year again. Buy yourself some peanuts, some crackerjacks...maybe some syringes and performance-enhancing drugs, and get ready for another baseball season! My predictions for the standings, 10 playoff teams, playoff picks, World Series winner and then 10 predictions for the season are below...add your own. :)

The Greatest People in History Tournament
Now that nominations are in, it is time to decide who really was the greatest person form all of History. Will Ghengis Khan rise to conquer the bracket? Will Tolkien or the Beatles be the first Nominees to win two tournaments? Will Aristotle be proved wrong in his prediction that he will win? Or will a Wild Card take the whole tournament? Only one way to find out.

Brackets updated. Note: Shouldn't it be Alexander the great vs FDR?
2nd Note: REALLY? Aristotle over fucking Turing.

Yes Aristotle over Turing. No one made a halfway convincing argument for Turing over Aristotle because there isn't one.

Not to beat Aristotle, no.
Petyr Baelish (100 D)
04 Mar 15 UTC
In following with Sandman's previous vote, I vote Petyr Baelish, for tricking the fuck out of everyone in Westeros and rising from a lowly house to control the Riverlands, the Vale, and possibly the North ( thats about 3/4 of the seven kingdoms size wise. )

I find it somewhat amazing that philosophers did not get their own category in this tournament, because thinkers are some of the most important people who have ever lived. Human culture and tonight evolves through time as a kind of meta-organism, and the people who drive it forward, like Socrates, like Einstein, like Jesus, are the most important of us. To the extent that a man know Alexander or the Great Khan were important it was in the sense that they were like great cataclysms that served as catalysts for new thoughts. But little more. The greatest artists however do strongly compete with the scientists and philosophers, because they not only sometimes drive our thinking forward, but also produce work of great emotional beauty... Whose value is very difficult to overstate. They bring us closer to God.

I would absolutely endorse a Philosophers' bracket in the future. I vote we cancel this whole thing, and start all over again with that. :P

As for the time, I just used the regular closing time – I didn't really notice that it has changed, for the wrong match-up, I'm sorry, I was using the written list as a referral and so I got mistaken. I hope that with the other matchups we'll go back in line and for the finals there are no wrong matchup sequences anymore.

So... I take it that Boney vs Gus is cancelled atm; didn't we do that one before anyay?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
04 Mar 15 UTC
Yes, considering a good chunk of the wild cards (and a couple of scientists like Aristotle who really don't fit there in a modern context) are philosophers, we should have had a separate bracket there. Oh well.

What's the vote today? Let's figure that out.
shoud be a whole tournament on greatest philosopher.
Huh, I'm not doing too bad in this tournament. Besides the Lizzie disaster, I have one guy in the final four, and my other two nominations lost to Einstein and Jesus, who are still in. Not too shabby.
TrPrado (461 D)
04 Mar 15 UTC
My Leader nomination is in the Final Four. Everything else of mine lost in the first round.
ghug (5068 D(B))
04 Mar 15 UTC
We're not at the final four yet...

Two of mine are still alive, and Vergil is the real winner, so I think I'm doing pretty well.

Is it Napoleon vs. Octavian? I vote Octavian.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
04 Mar 15 UTC
Vashta said it should be Alexander v FDR. If it's that, I vote Alexander without question. If it's Napoleon v Octavian, I vote Octavian.
TrPrado (461 D)
04 Mar 15 UTC
Yes, it's Alexander vs FDR once the time actually starts up (that's what the bracket is for, go look at it). However, we still have quite some time before it starts. We're technically still on Luther vs Descartes, but I doubt Luther has any chance of winning.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Obviously not, let's just move on since that vote's been derailed anyway.

Well, three of my guys--FDR, Mozart, and Shakespeare (finally redeeming himself for the double loss in the Author tourney!) made it this far...now watch them all lose this round, I bet. :p

And yeah, I nominated him, but no way FDR can top Alexander the Great.

So, sorry Franklin, you had a good run (er...you know what I mean) but +1 Alexander.

FDR. A short lived General who's entire empire collapsed into feuding states over the President who helped bring America out of the depression, into WW2, and shaped the politics of the United States and the world as we know it with his policies and decisions? No thank you.

UK F2F Game
Would anyone be interested in a F2F game in England, sometime in the weeks following the 23rd of March?

Some of the mods were discussing trying to set one up, but obviously we'd need to know if there's enough interest. Where exactly it would be would depend on what's convenient for the people who express interest (and what locations turn out to be possible).

Extraneous Games
Is there a way to hide or remove games that I have been defeated in under the My Games column? It's kind of annoying to have games that you can't affect show up in my screen, and being reminded of a defeat every time I log on isn't fun, either.

Whatever happened to Draugnar?
Back when I used to be really active on this site, Draugnar was one of the most... distinctive personalities in the forum, despite the fact that I don't think I ever saw his points total at anything other than 100 for any period of time (which made a few people assume he was an entry-level noob, lol). Then he got banned, along with draugnar's_ghost, draugnar's_zombie, etc. Is he back under a different name? Is he gone? Sure he was kind of a douche, but man did he know how to troll.
