What is this? (Ancient Med map)
This is probably gonna sound stupid but, what is that L shaped, light blue thing on the Ancient Med map? It can't be just my PC since it appears on my laptop as well.

Edi Birsan End of Game Statement, please discuss:
I wanted to say thank you to all the players for this game and especially to Akroma who made it very interesting and entertaining for me. I think we all know that she had a won game here and elected not to take it. For me that is the sign of breaking through the status of a veteran into a higher field of play.

Why do people call Turkey the worst nation to be?
Why? Italy's WAY worse than Turkey to draw, if France goes all crazy and attack you from the start, good luck. If you try to lepanto, almost every Turkish player has seen that, and If you ally with Austria, they hardly ever trust you and as soon as you start dieing, they dive head first at you. Is there anybody here who actually LIKES to play Italy?

He did the last time, when we were discussing General McCrystal being dismissed.

Apparently in the Air Force, its totally ok to rant on about your superiors to Rolling Stone.

This, by the way, only confirms my previously held notions that the Air Force is the military like Count Chocula is an actual Count.
Mafialligator (239 D)
31 Jul 10 UTC
Hah! Speaking of which, didn't TMW also claim to be just out of the service? Which would mean he should have also known that mouthing off about your superiors to Rolling Stone is also not cool. So, not that we actually needed the proof, but in we also know that that was a lie too!
warsprite (152 D)
31 Jul 10 UTC
I suspect his military back ground is very limited. Any military service member worthy that title would agree with what McCrystal did was wrong. Was TMW not the one who created an alternate to Operation Olympic post. If so I know he was not military.
Yes, the Montgolfier brothers were balloonists. I studied how aerodynamics affected their flights. I studied the history from a very technical perspective, about how the aerodynamics of aircraft has inproved throughout the years, and the technical effects of the improvements.

I already justified my opinion on the McChrystal issue, and my opinion does not automatically refute the fact that I served.
Jack_Klein (897 D)
31 Jul 10 UTC
It doesn't help that your opinion is contrary to the good order and discipline of the armed forces.

You're in an extreme minority, and while you do have the right to have a silly idea, I have an equal right to berate your sophomoric ideas as much as possible.

@JK - Count Chocula got promoted to Archduke Chocula on Futurama.
stratagos (3269 D(S))
31 Jul 10 UTC

TMW - give it up. You lied, you got caught at it. Simply saying 'no, it really happened that way, I swear!' isn't going to cut it. Refusing to address the other questions doesn't just magically make them go away, and indicates you fear further lies will be revealed were you to make the attempt.

There is not a educational facility on this planet that would have accepted what you claim was your thesis. I've already laid out the logic chain that derives from that.

The refusal to address my assertion that you are a teenager and that you have latent urges you strenuously deny to yourself and everyone else simply underlines the fact you have no response.

Get a clue, dude, or you'll end up flipping burgers for the rest of your life.
largeham (149 D)

Now now, this blatant ageism against teenagers is disgusting. We are perfectly capable of civilized conversation, when we are sober.

stratagos (3269 D(S))
31 Jul 10 UTC

@largeham - I have absolutely no problrm with teenagers. However, TMW is trolling with some pretty hateful speech to generate reactions, and he's using his supposed vast experience and education to buttress the 'strength' of his claims. If he would simply admit the truth; I'd still dismiss his views as being idiotic, but his age would not be an issue.

The only reason there is a problem with his age is that he has made it an issue. It's foolish, if he held his views sincerely, because it gives critics one more thing to attack instead of addressing any points he may raise... but he does *not* hold his views sincerely. They have been extremely inconsistent, and are nearly always written in a way to generate response.

Therefore, I have no compunction of pointing out obvious lies. His age is only of note because it is another lie, and is used to illustrate the point that he is not only lying, but he is doing a poor job of it.

I also personally have a problem with his homophobia, but that is more because I loath hypocrisy, and he has written things that make it clear he fears the thoughts of that nature when they pass through his head. Which, given the strength of his reaction, they do far more than he's comfortable with
@ stratagos --

In my own defense, it's hard to respond to everything when you're arguing with half of the Forum.
stratagos (3269 D(S))
31 Jul 10 UTC

That's a fair statement, TMW, but you *only* appear to respond to those items that are subjective or cannot be scrutinized. It's pretty challenging to state 'you state you believe x, but you really don't'. Things that *could* be scrutinized, even those that would not reveal personal information, are not.

Logically, if you were able to provide reasonable answers, you would do so, both to prove your critics wrong and to remove those particular conversational threads from play, allowing for a greater focus on your views.

Your inability to answer these questions - or your 'answers' that are demonstratably false - can therefore lead to only one conclusion: you do not answer because you cannot, and if you cannot, it is because you understand the answers (such as your 'thesis') will not stand up to scrutiny.

Look, TMW - no one *cares* that you're a teenager. Your statements - let us call them 'trolls' for the sake of argument - would still generate a response. Your attempts to utilitize an Appeal To Authority fallacy are backfiring badly, because no one can get past the ridiculous nature of your claims long enough to flame your views.

It's too late to simply not bring it up any longer, as its far too useful a cudgel. Your only realistic choice is to come clean. You'll earn a little respect for doing so - which you'll immediately toss in the crapper with another troll, I don't doubt, but at least they'd be calling you an idiot for claiming that aliens mind control the president rather than calling you an idiot for making obviously false statements.

I agree with stratagos.

In the meantime, TMW, how about you answer my questions regarding your views on PDA?
I'm not grossed out by it, I just think it's an activity that's inappropriate in public.

@ The_Master_Warrior: "I'm not grossed out by it, I just think it's an activity that's inappropriate in public."

That doesn't answer my question. I asked you WHY you think this.

Again, WHY do you think kissing in public is wrong?
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Aug 10 UTC
Because he is actually a 13 year old and, despite his protestations to the contrary, he is grossed out by it.
Two false statements = - 2 D

Draugnar - 2

@ Jamiet -- I think it's inappropriate behavior in public because it's drawing unnessecary attention to yourself and your partner. It's also not very polite.
What? How did the (D) symbol get there? Whatever.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Aug 10 UTC
You really are an idiot. If you type the word points after a number, it converts to (D) It has for some time now, Diplofool.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Aug 10 UTC
@Diplofool - And what is so impolite about it? Giving my wife a kiss when I drop her off at the mall and head to the office to get some work done on a Saturday is *not* impolite nor is it inappropriate.
It's both.
baumhaeuer (245 D)
02 Aug 10 UTC
imho, it's really romantic in the movies, but don't make out in real life. It's just awkward. Anything less I'm fine with.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Aug 10 UTC
Diplofool, just because you can't get a peck on the cheek from anyone except your mom, does not mean kissing my wife goodbye as she gets out of the car is impolite or inappropriate. In fact, it is the *most* appropriate time to kiss her as I something may happen to one of us while we are apart and one of us never get to see the other again, ever. Therefore having our last act before leaving each other for a period be one of showing each other love and saying I love you is not only appropriate, but the most important things we can do for each other. So, if you are offended by it, tough shit and kiss my ass.
I'm not offened by it! See my last ~ 20 posts.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Aug 10 UTC
Justify, please, how expressing you love with a kiss when you may never see the person again (life is unpredictable) is inappropriate?
stratagos (3269 D(S))
02 Aug 10 UTC
@TMW

Ignoring the points I raise isn't going to make them go away.

Your views, frankly, are your views. Why you insist on changing "this is the way I feel" into "this is the way things should be" is simply idiotic.

You'll find as you mature that the world becomes less black and white, and that people in general are *not* like you. That's not singling you or your views out, but it's human nature to think that the vast majority of people are similar to us on most things - and the truth is, they are not.

Everyone has their own unique combination of values and views, and while seven out of ten people may agree that purple is a pretty color, and seven out of ten people may agree that a sunny day is better than a cloudy day, they're *not the same seven people* - they *may* be, but the overlap is not usually the same.

So your insistence in phrasing your statements in a way to make them appear to be universally true is not only foolish, it is another demonstration of your lack of life experience.

I, personally, believe there are things that people should and should not do. I don't tend to shout them from the rooftops, because it's pointless - no one is going to change their views just because I think they should - and they really have no *obligation* to do so. Your "you shouldn't do X or Y" lacks any better "why" than "because I think so", and hence can pretty much be dismissed as the typical ravings of a child who has yet to learn that the world isn't either simple or simplistic.

So, in closing, if you're going to insist on trolling, at least *put some flipping effort into it*. Jesus.

Personally, I think two CDs within the first 2 years, or 2 or more later on when one of the CDs is, for example, the largest power on the board.

England should not open to the English Channel in gunboat
As France, considering I was thoroughly screwed because Germany and Italy moved unrelentingly against me, I decided to take England down with me. And this decision came totally because England opened to EC in gunboat.

How to get more D's?
I am new to webdiplomacy, and I am playing quite a few games at the same time. The problem is that I do not feel that the games are moving fast enough, and I have only 1 D to play - meaning I am not able to join any more games.

Is there a way to borrow D's? Or even to play without D's?
