So for example, isolated incident: the JFK assassination might have been the act of a secret group of CIA officers and mafiosos (conspiracy) or the act of a lone, probably insane, gunman (non-conspiracy).

Or, sociological event: the current banking crisis might be the plot of a cabal of elite bankers (conspiracy) or the outcome of a great many people and organizations acting in an uncoordinated way that ended up having significant outcomes (non-conspiracy).

you are right on several of the issues. most of those are complete nonsense or things that have not been established. unlike most of the people on this site i dont believe something unless it is established. global warming from co2? prove it to me. this magical new vaccine is effective and safe? prove it to me. gmos are safe? prove it to me. so i am not going to say, for example, the us faked the moon landing because there is nothing proving that claim.

the two where things have been proven are jfk and 9/11. was he killed by more than one gunman? probably. but what has been proven is that it was not perpetrated by one man acting in isolation. and on 9/11 was it perpetrated by the us government? they were involved, but that is an over-simplification. it involved agents from more than one government and a large part of it was done by gladio part b. so the way you are framing those two makes them half-truths, and then you are clumping them in with total bs theories/conjectures that cannot or have not been proven.

i like fulhamish's strategy point out where things that the public called "conpiracy" were later proven to have been reality. here are some more - gladio part a (terrorist bombings in europe), the american government sending the uss liberty to be destroyed by israel as an excuse to launch a war on egypt, watergate, fast and furious, iran-contra (the cia selling drugs for covert wars)... i dont know, so many more. hard to pick the best ones.

iraq not having weapons of mass destruction, inventing that that ship was attacked to get the us into the vietnam war.

No. I'm not in a bar in 1944. I'm in my house in 2013. And the definition of conspiracy theory is

By saying a disputed case, that means that it is disputed now. Since we all know that the bomb exists and that the Manhattan Project existed, that is in no way a conspiracy.

And if I were in a bar in 1944, there would be no matter or case that would be disputed. No one knew that the bomb was possible. It was secretly created. It was used. Everyone sees that it is possible. No conspiracy. Just a secret.

I'm sure that global climate change should be added to the list, but I can't think of a good way to word it.

Jimgov, I think you are deliberately missing my point. I told you in that hypothetical bar that there was a secret government conspiracy to create that devastating city destroying weapon. Conspiracies, by their very nature, require secrecy. You do your cause no favours by sticking your fingers in your ears to pretend that they are all the work of nutcases. That is not to say that they all, or even a substantial majority of them, are true.

Sorry, but I disagree. A secret government operation that has come out is not a conspiracy. No way, shape or form.
