Players needed
We need players for an anonymous players, pw-protected game. It's a sequel of sorts to a game that had good players but a couple of missed moves and a civil disorder that threw the balance off.

Respond here or, for extra anonymity, message me for info.

Diplomacy Simulators?
Does anyone know if there is a program that allows you to mess around with a Diplomacy board; trying out different openings, studying possible strategies, allowing for analysis of previous games, and so on? Regrettably, I don't own the board game to do this the old-fashioned way.

Muslim man and former MMA fighter uses cage fighting to rehabilitate convicted and released terrorists in order to help them integrate to society. They say it works, and I can believe it. Get punched and kicked in the head enough times and your perspective will change too.

i just got solo'ed a live game (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=95169&msgCountryID=0). And italy is giving me a hard time for solo'ing it becuase i stabbed. I just need some more opinions to show Italy he is wrong. Was my win dishonorable (or undeserved)

this site is filled with a bunch of lying, backstabbing, honorless warmongerers
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
so you are saying you solo'ed without stabbing anyone? I find that really hard to believe
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
and you discussed a three-way draw this game, and solo'ed. How is my case any different?

http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=94688&viewArchive=Messages
Bohonk (1918 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
hardly any of you have but a shred of dignity. a promise is a promise and to break it, even in diplomacy, is to commit a dishonorable act. oh sure, it may win you some games, but it is a despicable way to win, a disgusting way to live. may all stabbers, liars, snitches and sneaks rue their actions and forever be shunned as such
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
so refute your solo's when you said you would three-way draw
Bohonk (1918 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
in that game Fortress, i told him i was going to do it before i did. he knew the whole time what would happen if i got to that point. plus he is a good friend and we have an understanding in this such as this
Bohonk (1918 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
things such as this*
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
20 Jul 12 UTC
Uhhhh… I'd think a player that's been around would not only be used to a stab, but PROTECT AND DEFEND against one. You left the whole French mainland open and you complain about him taking it? Stop crying. Here's a cookie.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
but it doesn't change the fact you lied. I thought for sure the convoy into Belgium meant the move to Burgundy. Does that mean it didn't count?
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
@bo_sox +1. The only thing i find sad is that i didn't take it earlier, he actually accepted the convoy into Belgium and the fleet build in London
Bohonk (1918 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
i don't understand what you are saying the last post Fortress
Tyran (914 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
Haha stabbing is part of the game
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
I will try to explain it better

correct me if i am wrong, but what you are saying is that it doesn't count if you think the other guy knows what will happen. That is how i understand it
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
20 Jul 12 UTC
It takes a lot of skill as a player to solo as England in the first place in my opinion, but to do it confined to a lonely island and a few relatively useless Scandinavian territories is impressive. He allied with you to prevent Germany from running away with the game and then he took advantage of a stupid move on your part. Don't criticize me for calling it stupid because it was. Leave him an opening like that and there's no reason he wouldn't take it.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
and i actually only stabbed twice, one with Germany and one with you. The only sad things are that i was able to get away with it with Germany and that is worked on you
Bohonk (1918 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
i didn't think you would stab me actually. i trusted you. which is why i backed out of Mid Atlantic. but in reference to the other game where i told him, that is a very specific scenario with a good friend, we have a certain understanding which encompasses yet goes beyond this game. and he stabbed me for the win the last time we played together so i was merely showing him what it was like because he is new to the game and had not yet been stabbed
Rommeltastic (1111 D(B))
20 Jul 12 UTC
Pardon, I hadn't meant to pick a side. I just planned to say "yes" before you posted anything, but was too slow.

As for what went on...

Because most players do not Metagame on this site, it is safe to say that Backstabbing, lying, and being completely unethical is okay IF it wins you the game or ensures you a spot in the draw (somehow).

In real life games, the dynamic shifts because even if players do not meta-game, they remember who stabs, and who is honest. In these cases, stabbing is a calculated risk where you take the victory in one game to potentially harm yourself in the future.

But really, FD is in the right here. He stabbed, he won, how could he possibly have "won better"? This is a game of making friends UNTIL you can crawl over their corpses to victory.
Rommeltastic (1111 D(B))
20 Jul 12 UTC
And stop arguing about who lied. What happened happened. Nothing FD says will convince you to trust him again in non-anon games, and nothing you say will make FD admit to being heartless.
Bohonk (1918 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
i did the move because i was trying to keep the peace between us. i guess i could take a lesson from neville chamberlin. appeasement does not work
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
thank you bo_sox, i never actually thought i was going to be able to solo it :p. I am just lucky Gemrany was a noob and Italy was far too trusting
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
20 Jul 12 UTC
And speaking of not metagaming, "a certain understanding which encompasses yet goes beyond this game" is metagaming. Just FYI...
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
20 Jul 12 UTC
There aren't many games where one can solo without a stroke of luck. Italy, if you want my opinion, it's your fault you didn't push for a draw once Turkey CD'd. It started a war you didn't want. Beyond that, you made a mistake.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
but sometimes you need a border guard. Like i had with Austria towards the end of the game
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
and bo_sox, i did plan to three-way it, then Austria asked for a stab on Italy. Normally i wouldn't but Italy didn't really send all that much press and i had nothing to lose. Italy put draw up as soon as i stabbed him
Bohonk (1918 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
RommelItastic, I take your point. Perhaps then the problem is this game. I game which teaches one that lying and stabbing are the ways to victory. It is a game which teaches dishonorable actions.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
then if you don;t like the game leave, Bohonk. Or else only do gunboats
Fortress Door (1837 D)
20 Jul 12 UTC
and, of course now, i will never play non-anon with Bohonk again. Since he is making such a big fuss out of it

I just watched Star Trek XI on Blu-ray and it was awesome! I would definitely recommend it! Anyone else a fan of blu-ray films? What else do people think are great films to watch in HD? I watched The Matrix a few months ago as my first blu-ray purchase and that was pretty great too, so much depth.
