Non-anonymous GR game
I'd like to setup a non-anonymous game, with buy-in of about 50-100 D, preferably with people in top 300 GR.

Any takers?

I'm running low on active games. Would anyone care to play me?

I probably won't have time for a live game any time soon, but anything over 24hr is fine with me. WTA preferred, but again I'll play anything. Same thing for communication.

I have noticed that the forum is used for discussions about things not related to the site in addition to site-related threads. Even philosophy. So I thought I would ask this question which has interested me. The question is long so wait for the first response.

Hi all, so I'm wondering what all you UK'ers think about these drugs, how they are sold on the street, how prevelant they are, and your thoughts regarding drugs grown and how they benefit the economy. I'm interested to hear your replies. Thanks.

A History of the Site
I first joined this site a couple of years ago, only to leave (in a very regrettable fashion), for a year. Coming back a year later, I'm amazed at all the changes, not the least of which being my difficulty in finding the site that I knew as phpdiplomacy.

After seeing the request by some even newer members of the community throughout the forum for "tales of the days of yor", I'd like to challenge some of the older members of the site to attempt a history of this community.

As history, I was thinking just about every aspect of the site.

The top 10, notable players, etc (I think I left just as MarekP passed Rait as #1 for the first time? When did Edi Birsan leave the site?)
Notable bannings
System changes (what's new with webdiplomacy, when were the other maps introduced, what are all the *new* affiliated sites)
Forum dramas (diplomat...)

Anything else, really. It seems like it'd be an interesting project.

I know that chrispminis has been with this site for a very long time and has been consistently active. He might be the best to chime in here...

I've been here for...holy crap, three years now. My anniversary was three days ago. :)

I remember a notable banning/drama being before diplomat, but for the life of me cannot remember the screen name.
Chrispminis (916 D)

I'm so oooold.

Also, I think you're referring to the infamous Edi-bomb, unfortunately named after Edi Birsan, who really doesn't deserve to have his name attached to the incident. I can't remember the guy's name, maybe if we had named the flooding after the perp and not Edi we would remember. I think it started with a T. =P
youradhere (1345 D)
18 Oct 10 UTC
Oh, no, I meant when Edi left the site. I remembered there being an enormous hullabaloo when he joined and pulled some magnificent performances. I've always thought that the Edi-bomb was poorly named, especially since it'd been used so often before he joined.

Only been here for a year and a half i believe. I had never heard of Rait. The whole hall of fame points scoring isn;t really used anymore. its more so based upon Ghost Ratings
figlesquidge (2131 D)

SJ was well before that: by march '08 he was a reformed character.
I think the flood was Tarablus but not sure that the ending's correct. Again this would have been less than a year ago.

Well, really its been same old. New and old multi's surface every now and then, generally its quite good, and the community continues to gently change.
Saying that, if those are your last memories I would have said you've been gone more than a year - could have sworn Edi left over last summer.

http://Olidip.net is the site to look at for new variants, with a community stocked mainly from here, as the site owner managed & encoded most of the variants into webDip format.
Yes Chris you're old, the amoeba to my dinosaur :)
Has to be more than a year he's been gone. I joined 14 months ago and I've always known it as webdiplomacy.net

Holy crap, it's been that long.

Re: Yorkshire pudding - Edi like to take over CD nations and turn them around.

Was it SmartJason that kept on coming back and multiaccounting and I scared him off by finding a whole bunch of personal information about him to show him that his antics online had real consequences?
youradhere (1345 D)
19 Oct 10 UTC
Chris: I think it was. I remember seeing those messages once in a spurt of procrastination.

I feel like I joined the the site just as it started to really take off in numbers.

Is SmartJason still on the site? I hear that Diplomat is, albeit much calmer on the forums.

Rait hasn't been active in a long time. He was on hiatus before I joined.

Bearnstein was one of my favorites. Especially when he made all those bear-themed accounts and then people like Ursa were worried they'd be banned, too.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
19 Oct 10 UTC
Bearnstein was shortly after my hiatus ended and I returned in full force. I remember his threads on the forum for a few days, and going "what the hell...kids these days"

I'm going to butcher his name, but what about Siof as Kleens? He was by far my favorite poster. Like obi times 1000.
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 Oct 10 UTC
Yeah, Rait was very impressive. I think he held the all time Ghost Rating for a while, but you didn't need GR to see that he was an incredibly strong player.

Sioraf as Killeens! Man, what happened to that guy. He used to maintain a ridiculous blog expounding his adventures with internet diplomacy. Seriously, when obi burst on the scene I couldn't help but notice the resemblance.

Well, I can tell you one thing that's cropped up more and more over time that the site didn't start out with:

"This Time On Philosophy Weekly..."

:p
figlesquidge (2131 D)
19 Oct 10 UTC
@Chris - No it wasn't.
And I'm pretty sure that person still follows the site, since I banned some accounts matching his style.

SJ - Not to the best of my knowledge, but I haven't tried very hard to look. Certainly his legit account is still here, albeit inactive.
